Can you sprinkle the capsule over their dry food.. will it stick to and be just as effective?

Answer by VeronicaJun 20, 2025
It doesn’t cling to the dry food as good as it does to the wet food.

How is the maximum strength Cosequin different from this one? All the ingredients and quantities are the same.

Answer by VeronicaFeb 06, 2026
Maximum Strength Cosequin differs from regular Cosequin by offering a higher concentration of active ingredients, typically including 500 mg of glucosamine and 400 mg of chondroitin compared to the 250 mg/200 mg ratio in regular formulas. It is specifically designed with added ingredients like Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and omega fatty acids for better joint support. This is just my understanding of it so I very well may be wrong but I thought the ratios were different.

Can I give 2 capsule at one feeding? thank you

Answer by VeronicaFeb 06, 2026
If your cat weighs over 10lbs then I don’t see why you couldn’t. Although if it were me, I’d feel more comfortable sprinkling one capsule in their food in the morning and then one in the evening. Again, I’m not a vet so you may want to consult with them before giving two at one time.

Is this okay to take with gabapentin?

Answer by VeronicaFeb 06, 2026
I’m not a vet but my cat is on gabapentin and cosequin and I’ve never had any adverse reactions or any issues whatsoever. Just to be safe though, you might want to give your vet a call just to double check.

Achy Breaky Old Bones!!

Biskit is my 16 year old rescue kitty. He appeared one day on my back porch emaciated and looking for human help. It was obvious he had once belonged to someone

Biskit is my 16 year old rescue kitty. He appeared one day on my back porch emaciated and looking for human help. It was obvious he had once belonged to someone because he was neutered and declawed! Now, over ten years later, his paws are hurting so bad from arthritis because the horrible declawing not only was a “hack job” there was pieces of his claws still remaining. Because of the pain, he now walks on his “wrists””!! He also has arthritis in his hips. I started giving him Nutamax Cosequin and noticed a big improvement in his movement. He doesn’t “cry” at night from the pain like he did in the past. He’s not cured, but I truly believe Nutramax Cosaquin has made a positive impact on his life!!

I think they help?

I’ve been giving them to my geriatric (as the vet calls her) kitty for about a year now, I believe. And I like to believe that they are helping her. The vet recommended

I’ve been giving them to my geriatric (as the vet calls her) kitty for about a year now, I believe. And I like to believe that they are helping her. The vet recommended them as she has been a bit slower moving and some days she has a small limp, and I like to think I see an improvement in her (along with adding a heating pad to her favorite bed). She is 15 years old and around 12lbs, I sprinkle 2 capsules in her food every other day and I’ve been seeing the limp less.

We've been using this for our senior girl who has severe arthritis in her back end. Since starting this (in conjunction with Meloxicam and gabapentin) we have noticed a significant improvement. She can now jump up on my computer tower and onto my desk to find her way into my lap again. She also used to struggle to get onto the couch and now you can definitely see it's much easier for her to make the hop up where before she would make a couple of false starts and give up. She can even get up onto the bed in the spare room to sleep next to our slightly younger female.

Works well

As you can see in the pic, I have a senior rescue cat with a poorly healed broken hind leg. I know my old fractures ache, so I figured his leg must really hurt. The instructions say it could take several weeks to have a noticeable effect, but after just over a week he’s doing so much better. The good news: he plays with his toys. The bad news: he’s so naughty now! He plays tag with the other two (one thinks it’s fun, the other not so much), does the hide and ambush thing, and will jump up on lap and bite the butt of whoever is on my lap so he can take the spot. Clearly this has made a difference.

For my senior cat

My cat is 15. Her back legs were clearly going bad over the last 6 months or so. Finally it got to where she couldn’t jump on the smallest items. My initial thought is arthritis and maybe it is, but I found this produce and I kid you not, she has been running around playing and jumping like she is a kitten again. Bottle recommends 2 a day, I gave one a day and it’s been just fine. Just mix it in with wet food, you’re good to go. I am beyond happy with these results and will be filling back up on it. 10/10 recommend

Kitty seems more comfortable

Bought this because my 15yo has really bad arthritis in his elbows. I give him Solensia inj. every now and then but can't do it monthly because it's so expensive

Bought this because my 15yo has really bad arthritis in his elbows. I give him Solensia inj. every now and then but can't do it monthly because it's so expensive. Therefore, I give him these daily to keep him comfortable and I notice an instant difference. He walks around a lot more, able to get up easier from his naps and overall seems more comfortable. He enjoys taking them especially if I open up the capsule and sprinkle it on top of a little Cat Churu.

Good product but beware

I love Cosequin. I have used it on several other pets with no issues. Two of my older cats look like they could use some support, so I started feeding this on 01/13/26

I love Cosequin. I have used it on several other pets with no issues. Two of my older cats look like they could use some support, so I started feeding this on 01/13/26 at dinner. The next day, one of my older cats was sick....wouldn't eat, vomiting and severe diarrhea. I got him eating and by Wednesday, he was almost back to normal, so I added the Cosequin back in. Today, 01/15/26, he was sick again. Now, almost 24 hrs later, he is perking up again. I did a google search and discovered that cats can have a reaction to the glucosamine, similar to a shellfish reaction. So, while it is a great product, if feeding to cats, be aware that it can make them sick.

Helpful!

My 14 year-old Tortie has osteoarthritis in her spine. My vet prescribes her anti-inflammatory medication and recommends Cosequin daily. Prior, she was getting it

My 14 year-old Tortie has osteoarthritis in her spine. My vet prescribes her anti-inflammatory medication and recommends Cosequin daily. Prior, she was getting it 1-2x per week. Since giving it to her daily, she needs less of the anti-inflammatory medication which makes me happy, as it can strain the kidneys. However, since her mobility has greatly improved, she now requires training to stay off the kitchen counter. LOL. She gets both kibble and wet food. I feed her wet food once daily and mix in about 1/3 of a capsule. I also give a little dash to my other two cats. They all seem to benefit and tolerate it well. I've also seen benefit by arthritic feral cats where I would mix the sprinkles in their dry food. Word of caution, the inactive ingredients which are listed on the bottle make up the pink and white capsules. Instructions for this product are to sprinkle the contents of the capsule and then discard it. Inactive ingredients include red and blue dye and titanium dioxide. I wouldn't feed this to my animals.

Since giving this to out 17 yo cat Oscar we have seen improvement with him getting up and down the stairs in the house. He would occasionally cry out when laying down but doesn’t anymore. To us it works great in helping him with his joints and any arthritis he may have.

Beached Orca is now on the move!

Sylvester, tuxedo, over 10 years, a rescue, arthritic, 21 lbs - very overweight even for a big tom, extremely inactive - hence beached orca whale. Vet recommended

Sylvester, tuxedo, over 10 years, a rescue, arthritic, 21 lbs - very overweight even for a big tom, extremely inactive - hence beached orca whale. Vet recommended this specific brand to me - open 2 capsules and sprinkle on to his food 1 time a day. 2 weeks in he started to show some improvement, he wasn't sleeping all day (yes they do sleep a lot, but this was excessive even for a cat). He started sort of sitting up, he'd lift his front torso up and 'stand' on his front legs for a while and seemed to have less pain going from the bedroom down the hall to the little box. He's also been sleeping less on the self heating blankets or in his bed and more sprawled out. A week after that he was able to almost fully sit up so his back feet were mostly tucked under his lower end. I started also noticing a change in his bowel movements. They had been very dense and firm, and it seemed painful for him to have a movement. The movements in the box in the last few days have been (certainly BIGGER) much softer and 'fluffy' looking ( he doesn't cover them). Last night he surprised me by showing up in the kitchen downstairs. Got there all on his own! (This is now about 5 weeks into taking the 2 capsules daily.) A few hours later I brought him back upstairs with me, figuring down is easier than up and he would probably need the bathroom. Apparently later that night he went down on his own again, as when I looked for him in the morning, he was not to be found upstairs. I came out of one of the other rooms to hear him coming up the stairs! OMG! And there he was about 4 steps from the top! He'd gone down and UP all on his own! I'd tried once before with another supplement and it didn't seem to do any good; I'd gotten that on my own and followed the printed directions. I think this brand is better than the other, I think it also matters that it's a powder mixed into his food instead of a separate pill, and how my vet told me to give it to him. I wish I'd known about this sooner, and years prior when I had another older cat with arthritis. I'm hoping with the weight management food he's been on and this new movement he'll finally drop some of the weight and have even more movement and energy. I highly recommend this brand and speaking with your vet about how much and how to best give it to your cat.
