my dog is less than 20 lbs. How much of this should I give my dog.

Answer by AnneJun 24, 2025
According to the instructions: give 1 capsule for dogs weighing 10-19lb. For dogs weighing even less than that, I give them every other day.

Does this contain “other ingredients” like peppermint or lemon or other additives that are often in fish oil capsules for humans?

How much DHA/EPA each capsule. Vet wants 3500-4500 daily. Unable to find in additional info

Answer by WhiskeysmumApr 15, 2026
Look on the label under Guaranteed analysis, that's where you will find this info. It claims 155 mg EPA and 100 mg DHA with combined 320 total Omega-3 per pill. Don't come after me for the maths, I'm just telling you what the label says :)

This capsule version seems less potent than the liquid for small dogs? The epa/dha is less and the dosing is different when figuring it out for an5 lb dog. So the capsules have more omega threes but less dha and epa?

Answer by ChewyNov 02, 2018
The Nordic Naturals oil supplement is 2.3 times more potent in EPA, DHA, and Omega-3's than these soft gels when comparing the serving size for every 20-lbs of body weight.

I did a lot of research and read countless reviews from different sources before buying a fish oil for my dog (yes, I even made an Excel spreadsheet!), and Nordic Naturals Omega-3 kept coming out on top. I first used the liquid version when my dog was a puppy. He ate it just fine, though it did smell a bit fishy when using the dropper. Now that he’s two years old, I have been giving the capsule form for one year. I still feel really good about giving him this product knowing it’s one of the best fish oils available. The capsules are on the medium-to-large side, but my 90-lb Lab has no problem with them. I mix one full capsule into his food once a day. It provides all the nutrients I was looking for based on research. Since I don’t puncture the capsule, there’s no fishy smell I am aware of. As another plus, there are no fishy burps. I also love the quality and sourcing. The fish come from Norway, are processed within hours of being caught, and then encapsuled in California.

My vet suggested adding an Omega 3 supplement to my dogs diet for his allergies & other beneficial reasons. After doing a lot of research & finding out that some products can easily become rancid that come in pump bottles, I chose this one because it is premium quality & derived from wild caught fish. Only the best for my Pekingese.

My dog seems to really enjoy this fish oil! We started with the pour bottle and then switched to these capsules since it seemed tidier to serve. We will puncture the capsules over her food since she seems to like the flavor. She will eat the mostly drained capsules right along with her kibble. Since starting this fish oil and a dasaquin supplement, she has had much less signs of discomfort in her back legs. It's been a couple months now; went through about three orders of fish oil and two orders of the dasuquin and really noticing a difference in my dog's movement. She was sometimes limping after a short walk to the park a few months ago. She went for a long hike this weekend with no problems!

Beckett is as old as the hills; he was rescued in 2019 at age 9 to 11, so that makes him who knows how old now. He's got all the "old dog things" including dementia and arthritis. He was a street dog in Mexico and spent many years of hard living there so the more I can do to support him as he ages, the better. This supplement is easily delivered in his food (he will eat it even without the food because he was a Hoover in a past life). I feel good about him getting these essentials fatty acids, and he gets them daily. Chewy is a company I feel proud to use as it gives back to the community, and that just adds to the pleasure I feel when I purchase this product for our little-old-man-dog.

One of my dogs surgeons, recommended taking this product. Swore that this product would work to help / rid my dog of reoccurring skin problems& inflammation. Boy was he right. My dogs no longer take apoquel or Benadryl for their chronic allergies. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. They have taken their daily dose for 6 months now. Their coat grew to be so LUCIOUS and shiner than EVER!

So convenient

This is the best way to give my dog his omega oils - Instead of getting the oil and pumping onto his food, I just add the gel capsules to his food and he eats them

Easily dissolvable

My maltipoo is extremely picky, whether it’s texture, taste and smell. She even spits out her treats! I’ve tried many brands of omega 3 and this is the best one yet! My dog suffers from food allergies and is scratching all the time, till she was bleeding. This has definitely helped improved her skin and relieved her itchiness. The trick is to place one tablespoon of hot water over the capsule. Naturally you will see the capsule melt and the oil will ooze out. Then I just mix it up with her kibbles or her dehydrated food. She gobbles it up happily every morning!

Amazing!! Dog Test & Approved

I have a 100 pound 9 month oldBlack German Shepherd. He has a very sensitive stomach and very bad allergies. His vet suggested I give him fish oil to help his skin and watery eyes. This is our second bottle and Chaos eats them right out of my hand. I must admit when I initially put them in his food he ate everything but the supplement. I started giving it to him with a little peanut butter. After about 2 weeks I started giving it to him right out of my hand like a treat. He gobbles them up. He doesn’t mind the taste because I can hear them crack open when he chews. I tried other Omega 3’s and this is the one he will eat.
