About Outward Hound Puzzle Toys for Dogs

Healthy Playtime Problem Solving

Did you know that 15 minutes of mental exercise can have a similar effect on your dog’s emotional well-being as 30 minutes of physical exercise? Dogs love to explore and problem solve and will use their noses and paws as tools. Each Nina Ottoson puzzle toy game is designed with your dog’s natural behaviors, senses and safety in mind.

Reduce Unwanted Behaviors

Setting your dog to work on a puzzle or game helps focus his attention and energy. This mental redirection can help reduce boredom, anxiety and destructive behaviors, too. Try using puzzle toys to distract your dog from fireworks, thunderstorms and other stressful situations.

Four Levels of Play

All dogs are different. That’s why each treat puzzle toy was designed with a different level of difficulty—to please dogs of all skill levels, whether they are beginners or puzzle-solving pros. Start by choosing a level that suits your pup’s skill set and level up as he learns!

Level 1

Perfect for beginners, these puzzles help gain interest and prepare dogs for puzzles to come.

Level 2

Features added obstacles, requiring your dog to combine actions to retrieve each tasty reward.

Level 3

These advanced puzzles challenge your dog to complete several steps in order to reach the hidden treats.

Level 4

This is the hardest level and requires multiple steps and problem-solving skills to solve!

For Bonding and Training

Nina Ottosson puzzle games are a great way to build your relationship with a newly adopted dog or help a shy dog come out of his shell. You can also use puzzles to help train your dog and practice basic commands like “sit” and “stay”.

This was not the best designed interactive toy, it’s very easy for the boys to move the flaps aside and eat the kibbles or treats out of the holes. There are some interactive toys like the pizza I got from chewy that is way better and way harder for them to figure out. This toy, you might as well just put a bowl of treats in front of them.

Using a completely indelicate smash and grab, my dog "solved" this puzzle in about 30 seconds. It's well made and I'm sure there are polite dogs who would use their actual brains to sit and figure it out, so I still gave it 3 stars. But it's not for us.

This puzzle is the most durable of the dozen we have. It is a good entry level puzzle, but it is all one skill and I don't see a way of changing up the difficulty. So this would be good for a group of competitive pets where 2 or 3 might use it at once as they race to find the most kibble.

Terrible

Too loose. feels almost broken. slight movements displace the slides almost by them selves without the dog moving them. Even setting it down move them out of place

Loves puzzles

My dog took some time figuring this one out, but now it takes her only 2 minutes to do the whole puzzle. But she still gets excited to see it.

I like to leave something for my 13 year old girl to do when I go to the gym every day. This company makes some very nice, sturdy puzzles for Kona, my dog. It gives her mind a little bit of stimulation, which older dogs need. It's just a wee bit of a challenge at first but once she got through it a few times then she's got it down pat. I highly recommend this company's products.

Its box came opened, no big deal shifting in transit happens. Easy enough for us to load, gave it to our dog. And he broke one of the spinning covers clean off of the toy, not just pulling it from it’s mounting which could be snapped back into place when he was done, but breaking the connection off entirely. Probably within 30 seconds of it being given to him. Disappointed as it seemed like it would have been good for him. This would also have been improved with a rubberized base so it doesn’t slide on tile floors.

Of all the puzzle toys we have, my doxie mix likes this one the most. It is the most frequent in his rotation because it is doable...but still takes effort!

We got this for our puppy as a way to keep him occupied while we have our evening snack. He was only 3 months old when we first got this for him, and the first time he used it he had it figured out very quickly. But it seems like a decent quality, it's heavy-duty. So it withstands him biting it (cuz he's at that stage where he's biting everything.) So for that reason I didn't feel right leaving less than 4 stars. The toy maker can't help it my puppy is so smart, lol ;)

Really Fun!

My havanese puppy loves his puzzle! He gets so excited when he sees it. I put regular dog food along with a few treats.
