One more question. Some reviews state the wet food is bad. Open food smells bad and shows mold or bad colored meat. Was there any cause and cure for this happening?

Are all flavors of the wet food made with Carrageenan? This ingredient is stated to be carcinogenic and causes inflammation, bowel irritation, vomiting diarrhea and cancer.

I’m confused by the feeding instructions. 2 cups of food per 5 lbs of body weight? So an 80 lb dog is supposed to have 32 cups a day? Maybe I’m not understanding it correctly, but that seems excessive?

Is this a pate or chunks of meat with vegetables?

Contains carrageenan

I was very disappointed when I read in the ingredients list that Nature’s Recipe wet dog food contains carrageenan; this brand of dog food seems to advertise itself as a healthy choice and even claims to promote healthy digestion. However, concerns about the potential health effects of carrageenan have been around since the 1960s. There still remain a lot of questions and controversy regarding just how safe this ingredient is for dogs or cats (or for humans) and their digestive systems. Decades of research have suggested that carrageenan, which is a food additive/preservative extracted from certain types of red seaweed, may trigger inflammation, gastrointestinal ulcerations, and damage to the digestive system. From reading a host of articles on this (including vet-reviewed/doctor-written or reviewed/fact-checked articles), carrageenan can cause bloat and other digestive upsets. In 1982, the International Agency for Research on Cancer listed "degraded" carrageenan as a possible carcinogen. "Undegraded" carrageenan is an FDA-approved food additive (not trying to throw shade here because their challenges are huge, but note that the FDA has also approved use of a number of chemicals known to be carcinogenic, including, until recently, benzene, trichloroethylene, and methylene chloride), but a report published in 2012 concluded that "even food-grade undegraded carrageenan has the potential to cause ulcerations, gastrointestinal inflammation, intestinal lesions, and potentially tumors." It may also cause IBS in both humans and pets (I have a cat who developed IBS when she was 7 yrs old -- she now can eat only special vet foods). While "degraded" carrageenan is not allowed in food products (at least not human food products), it is not clear if "safe" carrageenan degrades in the gut during digestion. There is some concern that stomach acid may cause undegraded carrageenan to begin breaking down (degrading) as it is being digested (carrageenan degrades when exposed to acid). One variation may cause inflammation and is linked to cancer. IMO consuming carrageenan is not worth the risk it may well pose to me or my pets because too many red flags remain. There are other, safer options to using this chemical additive, so I do not understand why it is still used in our pet foods. I expect better. Will not buy Nature’s Recipe again. BTW, if you are concerned about carrageenan and/or have a pet who gets sick after eating so called "healthy" pet foods, it can also be listed as "Red marine algae, Chondrus crispus, Chondrus extract, Carrageenan gum, Irish moss algae, Processed eucheuma seaweed, Vegetable gelatin," among others, in ingredient labels; so don't be fooled.

This actually looks like real shredded chicken and my picky 4 mo. old pups devour it! I just wish the serving sizes were a little bigger but still larger than small canned size food. Next best thing next to the fridge fresh food. I like to mix the two kinds together. They seem to do well. Even their poops are firm and solid. Not bad smelling at all. Compared to my prior dogs.

This is the second time my order arrived in disarray. The variety pack was all out of the box and it was crushed. I think it's because the 24 lb. dog food bag is not protected by enough paper. It totally destroys the box of the variety pack. I forgave it the 1st time, thinking maybe they had forgotten to pack it properly. With this delivery, I knew that was not the case. The shipping could be the issue to, as there was a huge gouge on one side of the box. I will not be ordering again.

Yummmm!!!

I bought these a number of weeks ago when my dog wasn't feeling well. It looks good enough for me to eat. And it smells amazing! It's no wonder my dogs go bananas

I bought these a number of weeks ago when my dog wasn't feeling well. It looks good enough for me to eat. And it smells amazing! It's no wonder my dogs go bananas for this stuff. It is the real thing. It's not a watery juice that the meat and veggies is floating in...it's a delicious gravy. My dogs can't get enough!! And it really helped to stimulate his appetite when he wasn't wanting to eat.

Louie is 13 yrs. He has been eating this forever. We recently got a new dog 3 yrs. Reba. It was hard finding her a proper diet. She is so picky (golden doodle) I noticed she preferred Louie over her own. So I adjusted her kibble, and I use this as a teaser mixed up w/ kibble. Empty bowls / wagging tails all around.

I have gotten two bad batches of this, has made my dog throw up. My dog has been eating it fine prior to a couple bad batches. Look at my attached picture of what appears to be mold and is not expired until 2025, just got it shipped to me. Chewy has been responsive and refunded me, but I wanted to make other owners aware.

My two dogs are SOOO picky. I can’t even begin to tell you how much money I waisted on dog food that they refused to eat. Now they can’t wait for dinner and eat the entire thing. I mix it with the Natures Recipe dry food and they google it all up. Highly recommend if you have picky eaters.

Like the other shipment in this delivery, it was delivered to my neighbor's house and not mine. Had to use a hand truck to get it from their house to mine because it's very heavy. I understand that once Chewy delivers it to the carrier, it's no longer really under their control, however, FedEx gives you no place to complain about delivering next door. So I'm doing it here, maybe chewy can put pressure on FedEx
