Several Changes Recently, Not Good

We've been buying Natural Balance Salmon & Sweet Potato canned food by the case for years. It was the only food that my sensitive GI bully could eat without issues. But our last several shipments have had some very noticeable changes: the cans themselves are heavy with a thick rim now, while there is less food in them and it's very soupy, whereas this flavor has always been a nicely firm pate consistency. Around the time we noticed these changes, my dog started having diarrhea to the point where we need to add pumpkin and supplements to his diet that we didn't have to previously use with this brand and flavor. I can't find any articles online regarding these changes, except for news regarding the 2023 merger of Natural Balance with Canidae, however, you can see that others have also noticed these changes from Chewy reviews. Now reading the other customer comments with similar issues, and our own new problems and concerns, we will be researching new brands.

My dog has kidney disease and is also allergic to chicken in all forms. So she cannot eat the food for kidney problems because they all have chicken in them. I think I read every can of dog food in the pet store, some would say duck but if you read the ingredients there was chicken broth in it or some form of chicken. But Natural Balance does not. If it says duck it’s duck or venison it’s venison. So I looked on Chewys web site and found the cans to be cheaper. And it’s convenient to have them delivered.

I put my Goldendoodles on limited ingredient Natural Balance dt Zoey having a possible Chicken allergy diagnosis with her upset tummy. Both my Goldendoodles are on Natural Balance puppy limited ingredient. She is doing great on this food as well as Peanut with no Allergies. I put her yogurt on her food too plus I give her probiotics for puppies. Zoey is the dark Chocolate one and Peanut is the golden one.

Limited Ingredients

We struggled for 6 months trying to pinpoint what was causing our year old rat terrier to dig at his ears, under his front legs and cause eye lid puffing and redness

We struggled for 6 months trying to pinpoint what was causing our year old rat terrier to dig at his ears, under his front legs and cause eye lid puffing and redness from his excessive scratching. After several rounds of otic drops for his ears, rounds of prednisone, purchasing prescription dog food from our vet, and taking him off EVERYTHING and just feeding him canned salmon and sweet potatoes...WE DISCOVERED this food. After months of research we decided we had nothing to lose. He was losing hair around his eyes and his ears were red, bloodied and irritated more often than not. After 1-week of this product we began to see improvement and by the end of the second week his scratching was only sporadic. We have tried other N.B. LID food and he still reacts to the chicken and bison (he may have developed antibodies to those protiens). However, the fish/sweet potato has resolved his issue and we have been 100% for the past three months!! We have now introduced the fish/sweet potato treats and he is doing great!

I purchased this for our 2 year old german shepherd because we think she's allergic to chicken so our vet suggested changing foods. Our dog is very picky so we have to buy other flavors to alternate this one with. She seems to like all of the flavors we've purchased so far including this one so no complaints so far.

No pop top on the can had me disappointed. When I opened the can I was stunned to find the can was only about 2/3 full. I was about to write off this brand and flavor, but I must admit my dog devoured it mixed with dry fish-flavored food, and repaid me with an exuberant smile!

My little old man. Is gonna be 18 aug 13. And he is SUCH a leo! And he’s also a picky eater. They had been pescetarian on and off but had been veggie for a while (he HAD bad skin allergies to food) but he started to lose weight when he turned 17. So I transitioned to mixing this with the veggie stew and boom! He back to being a happy and healthy weight! Love the ingredient list!

Our large dog has allergies and gastric problems. We tried everything, spending thousands with vet visits, medicines, prescription dog food and the poor guy had no relief. He's been sick since he was a puppy. Finally figured out he was allergic to chicken. Changed his diet to Natural Balance Salmon & Sweet Potato - a small amount wet food to deliver medicines and dry kibble for substance. He got better and we were able to reduce his prescription drugs. Then the wet food changed. There's white particles in it (bone?) and he began with the diarrhea and vomiting. We stopped feeding it to him but since we had a case remaining, we continued giving a small portion to our little dog with no medical issues. With the recent ingredient change, she starting vomiting. I am now making food for both dogs. We stopped the kibble also. It's time consuming but the change in both dog's health, energy & alertness is dramatic. We have saved an amazing amount of money in vet bills which totally offsets the cost & effort of the homemade food.

Milo began his allergies at 2. The doctor recommended a dog food with out beef, pork, corn or other grains. I Started feeding him fish and sweet potato. He gets it mixed with with the canned food. It turned out that his allergies include turkey, milk, oatmeal, along with the beef, pork corn and barley. It has helped with the food allergies. I have started feeding my other dog the same food and he does not pick at his food like he use to do. They both love it. I love the fact that it is less expensive than the store and gets shipped to the house. The customer service is one of the best I have had the pleasure to work with. They are very helpful whenever I have needed to add to my order or make a change.

When my pup was 8 months old, her dog food gave her intestinal problems. My vet told us to feed her salmon dog food instead of chicken or beef. We began feeding her Natural Balance dried dog food with Purina salmon wet food. I found that although the new combination of dog food supported with her digestive problems, she hesitated eating the wet Purina dog food. After a few months, I learned that Natural Balance also has a wet, salmon dog food so I decided to try it since Tim Tam did not have any allergic reactions to the Natural Balance dry food. My first reaction when opening the can was shock. It wasn't a minced pate like the other brand, but instead was a hearty, chunky, natural looking food. My dog devoured it and begged for more. Tim Tam has been eating Natural Balance wet food in combination with the dry food for over 2 weeks now and she is still as eager to eat her wet food as the first day that she tried it.
