Where can I get sample size quality dog food

How many cups of food are in the 25# bag?

Answer by ChewyFeb 21, 2018
There's approximately 20 cups of food in the 4 pound bag, 48 cups of food in the 12 pound bag, and 100 cups of food in the 25 pound bag.

Is there a difference between deboned meat and meat, for instance the first ingredient on a bag is deboned chicken vs another bag that just says chicken as the first ingredient? Is that the same?

Answer by ChewyOct 18, 2018
Chicken is a highly digestible, lean protein that enhances palatability. Deboned chicken is the clean combination of skin and flesh without the bone derived from whole chickens. This is the same deboned chicken we eat and is free of added growth hormones and steroids.

Is this brand of dog food aafco certified?

Answer by ChewyApr 25, 2021
AAFCO does not regulate, approve, certify or endorse animal feed or pet food in any way, and AAFCO does not review an individual company's label or labeling. AAFCO members discuss and approve model legislation that is recommended to the states for adoption as individual state laws and regulations. Merrick Grain Free Real Texas Beef + Sweet Potato Recipe Dog Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance.

My name is Charlie. I am an Australian Shepherd/Irish Setter mix. My humans buy me only the best food. One time, my human dad left his belt out and it was pretty tasty so I decided to eat the whole thing. But, he made me barf it up and I've had stomach issues ever since. Once he started feeding me Merrick, my stomach issues are no longer a thing! Squirrel! BRB! Ok I'm back. My humans are very proper, you see. I have to shake their hands before I eat and sometimes they make me "speak". (I'm still not sure why) Anyways...you should buy this food for your dog. It's healthy, grain-free and since I'm a Texan, I get to support a local business. I like it and your dog will too. WOOF!!!

Merrick grain free Texas beef and sweet potato food is pretty good. The kibble size is quite small. I'm going to say a little bigger than a pencil eraser. I've included a photo. My two labs like it, but Nancy will only eat it if I gussy it up with canned chicken or my special cheese sauce. But that's no surprise, she is spoiled. I have tried the chicken version but they like the beef the best. Now to get to the nitty gritty.... their poops are normal, I've seen no indication of allergic reaction. They both have a healthy appetite and their energy levels are on par as well. I would definitely recommend the Merrick line of food to anyone. The only con I would say about it is the size of the kibble. I wish it were a little larger.

I have a new Bloodhound puppy (5 Months old) we call Watson. He's about 100 lbs. now and off puppy chow. We've been purchasing Merrick's at another major retailer since Dec. 23, 2017. The first thing that became apparent was the bags never sealed as they should and the grain developed a 'stale odor' . So, we thought a change was in order. We selected 'Chewy' .... and we are very pleased with the change!! Same food, but your grain is fresh, and the bags seal perfectly every time. Watson seems to be enjoying his meals more and the grain is staying as it should. He seems more active, alert and enjoying 'life'!!! Thank you so much for caring for the health and welfare of our animals. Buddy B

My Newfie loves the flavor! We recently switched her from Wellness Core for Large Breeds and she seems to be liking this food much more. We went with the beef and potato over the chicken after a recommendation from the vet for a possibly allergy to chicken and her symptoms have seemed to subside! Her coat is shiny and she had lots of energy. While it's not the cheapest brand, I feel we get a lot of value and nutrition for the money. Plus, our fur daughter loves it. The only negative side to the food is that the pebbles are small, which can be a problem for large breeds and/or dogs who eat fast. It hasn't been too much of a hazard for us, but it could be a potential setback for other pets! Overall, I hope to continue with this brand for awhile!

9 months on this Food

I've been feeding my 10 year old Bichon Frise this food for 9 months now. I was originally feeding her nature's balance but wanted to switch to something with more vitamins and higher protein content. She eats less of this food and the largest bag lasts us a little over 6 months where as with her old food I was going through a 30lb about every 1-2 months. This one costs more but I'm overall spending less on food since she is staying full for longer. She also stopped getting hot spots and after 4 months her tear stains really started to let up.

Excellent product!

My dogs have been on a popular brand, and one that I thought was good for my babies, for years. I have 4 adult Shih Tzus and have recently added 2 Shih Tzu pups to our family (no, I am not a breeder, they are like Lays chips!). One of my adult males is so picky, he almost never ate all of the food and sometimes went for days without eating. After investigation online about dog food brands, ingredients, nutrition, etc, I settled on Merrick. Initially, my adults were a little resistant to switch and they picked the old stuff out. But after 10 days, I had them completely switched over, and now they love it! Even my picky adult male cleans his bowl. I have also started to divide a can of moist food between all 6 dogs in the evening meal to add some variety. I am sold! Thanks, Merrick!

Dogs seem to like it

My 3 dogs seem to like it. This is the first bag of it i have ever ordered from chewy. It is supposed to be higher quality than some. Although when i got the bag ...there were two Rips in the Bag. They were not to large but i was Not happy with that at. The rips were big enough that the dog food could spill out of. I checked the dog food inside and it looked ok..but it does compromise the freshness of it. I always keep dog food in the original bag..because its not good to keep dog food of any kind in a plastic container. So i almost called and was going to report the bag with the two rips in it..but i didnt because i knew i would have to wait another few days to get another bag and i would be charged for another bag. I dont know what caused the rips..the box it was delivered in was fine and was not damaged. So it must have been ripped during the Packaging process before it was sent out to me.

Merrick cured my dog!!

For 6 years of my Labradors and Great Dane's life I have fed them the once highly recommended Nutrisource grain-free dog food. Not thinking there was ever a connection

For 6 years of my Labradors and Great Dane's life I have fed them the once highly recommended Nutrisource grain-free dog food. Not thinking there was ever a connection to the brand of dog food we fought excessive shedding, constant skin problems, itching and Stinky dogs the entire time. After hearing about Nutrisource being linked to K-9 health problems I decided to do some research and switched brands to Merrick. Sadly our great dane passed away just before I switched. It has been two months and I am happy to announce that all of our previous health problems with our Labrador are gone. No more excessive shedding, absolutely no skin problems, no more Stinky dogs, and he is a much happier dog. It's as if he is a puppy again, full of energy.

I did a lot of research for a dry food that was affordable with the best ingredients I could get. This was one of the top brands that came up in my search. I also research breed specific as I have a mix breed that needs to be fed carefully because he can gain weight very quickly. My dog is Beagle/Daschund mix and is 20 lbs. Since starting my dog on this food, the immediate difference I see is skin and coat. His coat is so much shinier and skin is healthier. He is shedding less and I am not seeing the dander I use to see when brushing him. Also his breath is a lot better- and I do regular teeth brushing. And the best part - it’s like feeding him treats for dinner. He goes nuts for this food! He gets very excited about meal time - even more so than before! Of course if you have a serious muncher I do recommend a slow feeder - if I didn’t have a slow feeder, I’m afraid he wouldn’t even stop to chew this food.
