Would it be possible to switch from the Raw Infused Puppy Food to the regular Merrick Puppy Food without mixing the food to switch her over?

Answer by ChewyMar 20, 2018
Even though the brand is the same, we recommend to transition slowly if switching between the Raw Infused and Merrick Grain-Free, due to the raw pieces and different guaranteed analysis. We also recommend mixing slowly if your puppy has a sensitive stomach.

I have a 5.5 month old Rottie and I have had him on Orijen since he was 9 weeks old. He did fine at first but his stool started getting runny and we believed he didn't agree with the amount of Protein in Orijen. We then decided to try Merrick Backcountry Raw Infused and while he did love it, his stool got even worse. We thought maybe it was just the process of getting used to it, but after transitioning him over the course of 8 days starting at 20% Merrick, he didn't have one solid stool. All the while he had really bad gas and was constantly stinking up the house. The first day he was on 100% Merrick he threw up and had completely liquid stool. We then decided to switch him back to Orijen and within one day his stool went back to the normal soft but not watery. In the end, this could be good for some breeds/dogs but it was not good for my Rott and just thought I would share. The only positive was he did love it, but honestly I believe he will eat just about anything :D.

Great Grain Free, High protein Kibble

I spent countless hours researching and after trying Orijen large breed, Blue Wilderness, and Healthy Select, my rotweiller/golden is doing great on Merrick Backcountry

I spent countless hours researching and after trying Orijen large breed, Blue Wilderness, and Healthy Select, my rotweiller/golden is doing great on Merrick Backcountry. Orijen just is too high a protein, Merrick's Backcountry is 30% protein and grain-free which is working great for my pup. The kibble size is small which my dog prefers as he actually choked on the large breed Orijen since he swallows his food whole most of the time. This is a new brand of Merrick so there aren't many reviews out there but dogfoodadvisor rated this puppy formula 4.5 stars and its working great, my dog has never had a shiny coat with Orijen or Blue. His coat is AMAZINGlY shiny now I can't even believe it.

I have two Husky pups that I've had to change dry food multiple times . I've tried about 3-4 brands before deciding to give Merrick a chance. They love it! They'll clean out their bowls, and I don't have to add any extra meat or flavors for them to eat the kibble . I've gotten 3 bags so far , and all of them have came with reasonable amount of the freeze dried raw pieces . This last bag is very full of the raw pieces . I enjoy the quality , and the convenience of the auto ship too !

Great Product For My Puppy!

I give this food to my 8 pound maltipoo and she loves it. I have been giving it to her every since I got her (she was about 2 pounds when she started eating this). It gives her energy and she looks forward to it everyday. I find that she loves the raw bits. I will definetly give this brand and type of food in the adult form once she gets older too. It didn't cause her any problems at all. I highly recommend this product if you are getting a new puppy or considering changing your pups food! Also go follow my dog Lucy on Instagram for more cute pics of her @lucy.the.malti.poo

4 Month old Rottweiler Puppy

I'm a canine trainer and nutrition connoisseur who has spent hundreds of hours researching various foods and comparing bags side by side and reading veterinary textbooks on clinical nutrition and this food was the obvious choice when I got my Rottweiler puppy. The combo of high quality protein, freeze dried raw produced in a way that does not require montmorillonite clay to bind the pieces, the probiotic added into the food, and the highest level of Glucosamine and Chondroitin that you can find in any puppy food (great for keeping his joints healthy while he rough-houses and bounces off everything in sight!) make this food a clear leader. I bring my little guy to the Puppy Playtime I oversee and everyone always asks how my Rott is so soft still even with his adult coat, when oftentimes Rottweiler's have a somewhat coarser coat, and I tell everyone that this is the food he gets. His stool is firm, his energy is astonishing (Puppies are my job and life so I know low/mid/and high energy puppies), and his vet is amazed at his growth, tone, and health as a whole. Additionally, I posted a picture of my pup eating his new food on Merrick's facebook wall and they sent me 20$ worth of free treats just for sharing! That's a brand who cares and makes their food for the love of the dog. I strongly recommend this food and any of Merrick's grain free products.

My 4 month old German Shepherd puppy loves this food. I do agree with most people that the kibble is very small, and this does create a bit of a mess, but I can live with that. My biggest complaint would have to be the amount of chicken per bag. There are pieces of freeze dried chicken mixed with the kibble. She picks those out first thing and eats them first. I try and mix it up so there are the same amount of pieces per meal, but the amount per bag seems to be inconsistent. Sometimes it just seems there are less pieces in some bags than others. I wish they would be more consistent with that and put more chicken in. Overall, this is very expensive food, but very high quality. My puppy loves it and our vet approves. That is all that matters to me! I will feed her this for a few more months and will then switch to the adult food. Oh, and it is made in the US which is very important to me as far as quality and high standards.

I have heard really good things for this brand of food. I'm coming from TOTW puppy formula and switching to this food. It's a bit more expensive but I think the ingredients and quality is a bit better so worth the price. The puppies (6 month old and 9 month) are doing great, I'm currently transitioning them and no diarrhea so far which is a great sign. They gobble all their food now.

My puppy came from the breeder on a lower quality puppy food than I wanted to use, so I tried Acana and Orijen since they were rated so well. Apparently the high protein at 35% and more was too rich and caused loose stools even after a six week transition. Every time I got past 75% of the new his stools got too loose. Then to grain free Merrick pupoy which he ate and solved all our stool issues. After that bag, I saw this merrick formula with the added freeze dried pieces and thought it might be even better. It is! Now he gobbles his food with much more enthusiasm and is still having firm stools. I plan to stay with this as his coat is also shiny and soft. I only wish Merrick hadn't sold to Purina as. I prefer Champion Food as a more trustworthy choice, but this food is awesome, so I'm trusting they maintain integrity in the future

Well, Merrick made a quality product. All three pups under a year love the kibble. It is tiny kibble, but you can hear them crunching. A little expensive (that is the reason for the removal of one star) for 28lbs however, if I mix it with another quality dog food it should last a little longer. I have one little one that picks out the Merrick bits and will eat them first. With three little furry family members who are going to have to not like Fromm anymore, if staying with Chewy, this may be the ticket. Researching dog foods this came in as quality but so did Diamond, no grain and Blue Buffalo, Wild no grain. Like the idea of a Velcro bag, good thinking but, I may not have a chance to use the easy close bag if they eat it as fast as they are. Would like to update this review in three months to tell of the transition with stomach sensitivity, activity level, and coat.

Our Pointer Pit mix has been on this since we got her at 31/2 months and she just turned a year. Knowing that Merrick uses healthy and wholesome ingredients and seeing how much our pup loves to eat, makes me feel that we are giving her the life she deserves and the healthiest food possible. We're going to transition her to another Merrick product soon.
