Dude. This stuff is amazing, I didnt have to wait long at all, my entire colony is going insane over this food. As long as this food brand exists I will never be buying anything else, the weened babies seem to be having a ball eating this stuff and it breaks apart so easily. I have a pregnant doe as of right now not really wanting to eat at all and this stuff is getting her to eat a lot more. I couldnt be more content. Price and shipping were great and the results are even better!

I switched from Oxbow and my rats are so much happier and healthier in Mazuri. I have 15 and in one month I’ve seen weight increase, coat shine increase and lower odor. My heart rat was looking thin and just plain unhealthy with free choice of oxbow, now she’s filled out and gorgeous again!!! My 6 males are all nice and plump and barely smell. I’ve even noticed my two hairless have less dry skin. So glad we switched. Happier rats and better on my wallet

So my little buddy came from my colleges' lab after their behavioral experiment was over. He went from living in glorified Tupperware to my house in a very decently sized cage. He experienced more in the day I brought him home than he ever had in his life. It was his first time out of the lab; he was born there. He smelled fresh air and felt sunshine for the first time. With all the new experiences, sensations, and changes, I wanted his diet to stay relatively the same at first. I didn't know what brand the lab used, so I tried to identify it by the shape and size of the pellets. I guess I was lucky because he ate it no problem! It doesn't taste particularly good, so he doesn't crave it and get fat. He eats it when he's hungry, so I can keep the food bowl pretty full at all times. (I think that's important to him since they limited his food during the experiment.)

My rats love it and I have no doubt it’s good for them however I know there’s some degree of dust mixed in with the food I expect some but the amount I found in this bag is Ridiculous! I really hope the other three bags I bought aren’t like this. I know I’m not getting 25 pounds of food out of this bag, kinda disappointing really, if this problem can be fixed I would probably give this food five stars but this is unacceptable.

This diet is completely unsuitable to Rats and it's not that great for Mice, but it's a great diet for Hamsters! I rescued a small female Winter White Dwarf Hamster and she was stuck in a small habitrail and was being fed terrible Kaytee food. Now she lives in a 55 gallon tank, has a much better diet, and much better care. Hamsters require high protein (around 28%), high protein (around 25%) and low fat (around 4-6%) to keep a staple diet. I always add a very large variety of pellets (12 brands of different pellets), along with dried Mealworms, sometimes dried Crickets, as well as a big bowl of Timothy and Alfalfa hay. She seems very healthy and happy now!

I breed rats so was hoping that this stuff would be just as good as Supreme Selective Rat Diet and more cost-effective because it is offered some places in 25 and 50 Lb bags. I purchased direct from the manufacturer. What I found was that my rats have to eat tons of the stuff to feel satisfied and it's not very bioavailable and they just end up pooping it out very quickly. I find that my rats poop approximately 2/3 more eating this stuff than they do on Supreme Selective. Poop is looser, and stinkier too. Also, as one other reviewer said, the dietary needs of rats and mice are not the same, so making a "rodent" food lumping them together is really more for the convenience of the manufacturer and cuts corners when it comes to the animals' needs. Rats are not really supposed to have food higher than 16% in crude protein at the very most (except maybe for in temporary circumstances like pregnant and lactating females, or an animal that is not getting enough protein and needs to be supplemented in the short-term). I have also tried Teklad and that is very similar to this formula. Buying Mazuri in bulk is more than $1.00 per pound and a 50 Lb. bag ends up costing around $60.00. I wouldn't mind that if the food were actually utilized in my rat's bodies, but seeing as most of the content comes out the other end I am pretty disappointed and feel like I wasted my money. What would be really great is if Chewy would negotiate with the UK manufacturer that makes Supreme Selective and ask them to offer a 50 Lb bag at a comparable price to what Mazuri charges and have you sell it on your site. If you do that I will buy it on a regular basis from you, and I would send lots of buyers to you. I recommend that food to all my adopters, as it's the right protein percentage, has no sugar, no alfalfa, and no dried corn by-products that nearly all the other commercial foods have in them. Currently, Supreme Selective rat food is only made in 4 Lb bags and 30-40 rats would finish that in a few days. (That is the only reason I would buy Mazuri again). There are only two sites where I've seen a slight price break on a bundle of 4 4 Lb. bags of Supreme Selective at a time. You are paying alot for the packaging with those little bags when it would be more cost effective to make a 25 Lb and 50 Lb. bag available and have your money as distributor and the buyers' go towards the food inside instead of alot of paper. I know lots of potential customers who would really appreciate having that bulk option and in the higher quality food!

Works great for mice, hamsters, and gerbils!

Primarily bought for my mice, as I currently have 15, but also used for my four hamsters (all different species), and now my two gerbils. Palatable to all of them

Primarily bought for my mice, as I currently have 15, but also used for my four hamsters (all different species), and now my two gerbils. Palatable to all of them and reliable among keepers of all species, despite being marketed primarily for rats/mice. Interestingly it isn't always liked by rats, but then they're prone to getting picky and preferring high sugar! Bought the 20lb bag as it's much cheaper than other brands in this size (labs and zoos use this brand so go figure) and honestly given my critter collection, I'm gonna use that much this year. No issues with the bag, I'm used to the smell and opening style from dealing with livestock feed. I'm sure there's tons of dust at the bottom, but I haven't gotten there yet and I'll probably end up making "cookies" or something with it once I do LOL.

This is too high in protein for most rats and mice unless pregnant, but it's great for balancing out a hamster diet! (Most hamster seed mixes are too low in protein) I mix two blocks with Higgins Sunburst (seed mix) when I feed my hammy. Hes been fed this diet his whole life along with treats and the Oxbow joint supplement once he turned 2, and hes in EXCELLENT shape! No signs of health problems or mobility issues even though hes nearly 3!
