How much food do I put down each day for two adult Guinea Pigs? Mine have been getting too fat and I don't know the correct amount to feed them.

Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2021
Guinea Pigs should always have hay available in a hopper, bin, or on the bottom of their cage and will graze on it as they need; keep a half cup of hay always available, and replace it daily to keep it fresh. If your guinea pig is gaining weight, make sure that you’re feeding the correct amount of pelleted food (1/8th cup once daily, per guinea pig) and only providing a treat once daily.

Is this food good for baby rabbits?

Answer by ChewyNov 26, 2018
Like adults, hay should play an important role in young rabbit's diet. Grass hay (e.g. meadow or timothy) is the one food you should introduce from the start, even if your rabbit isn't already eating it. This is the gentlest food on the gut and will provide the fibre needed for the digestive process to function.

About how long does the larger bag last for one guinea pig?

Answer by ChewyAug 23, 2018
There's no exact feeding amount of hay your small animal needs, the length of time it'll last will vary. You can provide hay at all times.

Is this from first cut or second?

Answer by ChewyNov 26, 2020
Kaytee Natural Timothy Hay Small Animal Food is early cut hay and comes from both first and second cuttings. Early cut hay has a higher nutritional value, better color and is softer than product left to mature longer.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time I’ve found items in my hay. I’ve found water bottle caps, plastic from the straps holding the hay bales together, but I think this is the WORST find. This time I found a flat and dried out rodent. Which I get there are all of these things on farms and through processing, but why did the rodent make it through all of the processing and checks? Im scared to use the hay in the bag because it might be contaminated with dead rodent and moldy. Will my bunnies get sick from this? Will I?

When I opened the bag I saw a bunch of short pieces of hay instead of the long, tangled hay in other bags. I thought I’d regret buying this. My bunny is in his cage at night but out all day. I open his cage first thing when I get up and he’d come right out. Since getting him this, he stays in his cage munching on the hay! I’m thrilled with this, especially since hay is such an important part of their diet! I’ll definitely continue to buy this hay.

We've been buying this brand of hay for over a year, since we got our guinea pigs, and they love it!! The hay is always fresh and high quality and my piggies chirp with excitement when they hear me start to rattle the bag to give them their daily portion. It has been a big part of my piggies diet and helps in keeping them healthy. I highly recommend it!!

My rabbit wasn’t interested at all in eating this hay. It had a lot for brown grass mixed in and the hay itself was yellowing with thick/stocky/harder stems. Won’t be ordering again. The bag also had a lot of little hay “dust” in it. Might see if Chewy will give us a refund.

Let me tell you.... this is the absolute worst hay I have ever used. It was pure dust and no long stems. The only thing nice is the package, other than that it's a crap product. Go buy carefresh they have the good stuff. I can't return this because I used it... like I had a choice. The rabbits kind of just look at it because when they grab a bite to eat, clumps just fall out of the holder onto the floor. Just save your money everyone, and chewy please get rid of this garbage. I will NEVER order this brand of hay again!

I purchased the 96 oz bag knowing that there’s always some hay dust, but the amount of dust in this particular bag is unacceptable. I am going to have to buy another bag of hay pretty soon because there’s not enough actual usable hay. When I purchase these at physical stores I always check the bags to make sure I don’t see too much hay dust. Obviously, with this being an online purchase I didn’t have that option. It would have been nice if Chewy had some quality control and held the manufacturer to a higher standard.

When I opened the bag of hay it was terrible. It was dry almost to the point of just being dust. The pieces that weren't crumbling were short and just felt like bottom of the bale stuff. I brought some hay by Oxbow at my local pet store just to get me by until this order came from Chewy and it was so much better. The difference was night and day. This Kaytee was so dry that my rabbit won't hardly eat it., which is saying a lot. I have this hay on auto reorder but after this last batch, I will be canceling future orders.

Pet store quality is better

This hay is all shredded up and makes a mess in the cage because of all the small pieces. It's so shredded that it just falls through my guinea pig's hay holder

This hay is all shredded up and makes a mess in the cage because of all the small pieces. It's so shredded that it just falls through my guinea pig's hay holder. When I buy this same brand at the pet store, the quality is much better, for the hay straws are actually the right size. Makes me think that they sell Chewy the lower end of the stock so that they can sell it cheaper. You would think these are lawn clippings after mowing the grass. Very disappointed.
