Kaytee Lava Ledge Small Animal Toy, 5.8-in

I have always liked lava rock for bird nails, and also for bird footing variety. Recent name brand rocks on Amzn appeared to be fake and smelled horrid, I threw them out. I tried Chewy’s market on a whim because I needed rocks for my new birds, and Chewy’s rocks are perfect. I always give a quick wash with soap and water before putting lava rocks in my birds’ cages. I recommend for nails bc I rarely need to trim nails.

I have 4 pet rats so something to chew and file their nails on is required, to they were bigger than I expected (not a problem) but the screw that attaches it to the cage is very loose, I ordered two so I had to reattach one with a non-toxic, somewhat strong glue and that did okay ( it does still droop), the other one simply fell apart. Overall, my rats love to chew on them but I expected a better quality. (**included in the picture is the Double Critter Nation Cage which was easy to put together and an item that I highly recommend, along with Oxbow brand rat food, which I got for a good price when ordered in bulk and is what I consider to be the best thing to feed my 4 female adults rats)

I would give zero stars if I could. The dye on the ledges is coming of big time, to the point that our chinchillas fur was pink after few seconds, staining everything it touched. We tossed it to trash right away. I’m taking this off my shopping list permanently.

I ordered two of these and to my dismay both had terrible outgassing. It took several hours of baking on low heat for it to be at a level I felt comfortable exposing my rats to. Now that they no longer reek, the ledges are nice and firmly attached to the cage near their food and water and have worked well to prevent them scratching open my hands by accident. The coating can be easily scuffed off when wet, which doesn't matter much to me but heads-up if you do care.
