Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Nourish + Protect Cockatiel Food, 5-lb bag

a ridiculous amount of kibble and little brown twigs. kibble is bigger than I feed my cats, birds do not like a spit it out everywhere. same with the brown string twigs, what ever they are, they spit them out too. never was like this before. really tired of picking up the pieces or sifting thru the seed to remove this filler. i have 7 cockatiels, they liked it before being improved, but not anymore. will be looking for a new food, not this one anymore.

My birds eat a pellet diet, only receiving seed as an occasional treat, but I'm making an exception for an old friend who's starting to show her age. One of my birds is a 26 year old Quaker Parakeet. She's showing less interest in treats she used to enjoy (but still loves pizza!), so I got this seed mix for her to feed in addition to her pellets and other treats, hoping to perk her interest a bit. I like this mix because it doesn’t have overly large pieces, or four variations of corn as some of the others do. There’s a good variety of seeds and different colored small pieces of pellet. So far, the only drawback I’ve found was when I went to cut the bag open. My cats heard the bag crinkle and thought I was giving out some of their treats. They ganged up under my feet and tried to trip me till I caved in and gave them a treat too...the fuzzy little tyrants! LOL

I’ve been using Kaytee products for over a decade and generally like the quality. I’m glad I could get my favorite product through Chewy. My 14 yr old cockatiel still likes this food and he’s quite healthy. But, the food has been loaded with pantry moth eggs. I can’t blame Chewy at all for this since I’ve had this problem all year with food bought from other vendors. I don’t know if the processing of the food is different or what but this year has been remarkably bad for this problem. The only advice I really get is to freeze the food for several days to kill the eggs/larva and then I can feed it to my bird. That’s great and all but the fact that the stuff is there diminishes the food’s quality and the problem never really gets resolved. It’s an ongoing issue with the brand but just an FYI to the buyer from any vendor.

I tried this cockatiel food, but unfortunately it didn’t work out for my bird. I noticed it made my cockatiel poop a lot more than usual, so I won’t be buying it again. That said, every bird is different, and it may work well for other but just not the right fit for mine.
