Kalmbach Feeds Songbird Reserve Shell Free No Mess Wild Bird Food, Green/Blue, 20-lb bag

My first impression opening up the beaten up chewy box was yay, it’s packed in a sturdy bag that didn’t bust open in shipping, which has happened before with other brands. When I opened the bag I was delighted to see a huge amount of clean fresh looking peanuts and lots of sunflower hearts, not just mostly millet. As you can see in one of my photos, the whole bag is loaded with peanuts, which all my bird visitors go crazy for! Plus there are some almonds and pumpkin seeds that looked good enough for me to eat. There is an odd smell to this mix, which I'm guessing is from all the added vitamins, minerals, and probiotics, so I only put a small amount of this new mix into one of my feeders in case the birds don’t like it. Turns out they do! Not long after I put it out, I had tufted titmice, nuthatches, and cardinals grabbing peanuts, and later the finches gave it their seal of approval by staying to chow down. My birds seem happy, so I'm happy!

We have a large backyard that attracts a lot of birds - blue jays, robins, cardinals - so I was excited to try Songbird Reserve. The packaging is secure but easy to open with a pull of the string. The bird food was fresh and had a delightful, sweet scent that remained even after I opened and closed the bag several times. I put the food in our bird feeder and sprinkled it on the ground. The birds absolutely loved it, emptying the bird feeder overnight and waiting eagerly for me to refill it.

This mix of shell-free bird food enriched with prebiotics, probiotics, essential oils and enzymes, is chock full of peanuts and sunflower hearts. The ingredients are natural and are suitable for a variety of birds. It has been very hot, so not many birds have been visiting the feeder in the last few days, but I am hopeful. I like that this mix is mess free, and that it contains additional nutrients for the birds' health.

Love this songbird feed! I love feeding the songbirds outside and enjoy a feed that does not have shells so I don’t have to pick up the mess afterward. This is perfect! It’s a very nice combination of seeds and nuts, pre-shelled, to attract a wide variety of songbirds. Of course the squirrels and chipmunks will help clean up whatever drops below. A huge bag that will last at least a few weeks or months depending on the number of birds you have.
