I switched to this from Sweet Meadow Farms and my pigs absolutely love it. I didn’t really want to swap their food up, but this comes in a 50# bag, and the other only comes in 40# bags. I did compare the pellets and this feed looks and smells better than the Sweet Meadow Farms. My pregnant sows do really well with the other, but this has a higher calorie content, so I’m hoping my girls do even better with this!! I know it’s better for the babies, so I’m happy with my decision. Plus the gpigs love it, so I think we have a new food!! This food is almost as fragrant as oxbow, and the pellets aren’t as big as Sweet Meadow Farms

Great food for cavies with higher calorie needs

I recently fostered 12 (yes 12, what was I thinking!) neglected cavies, including 2 pregnant sows. They were very malnourished, and my usual cavy food choice from

I recently fostered 12 (yes 12, what was I thinking!) neglected cavies, including 2 pregnant sows. They were very malnourished, and my usual cavy food choice from sweet meadow farms wasn't getting them to gain weight and condition like I wanted. I gave this food a try and they all LOVED it. Within a month, they were all a healthy weight and had a shine back to their coats. The pregnant sows had no problem nursing and keeping on weight as well. I'm now slowly transitioning them to a mix of the all Timothy pellets and this feed to ensure they don't end up overweight. This is a great feed if you have young, pregnant, or thin cavies that need to gain weight. I wouldn't recommend it for your average, healthy adult cavy due to it's high caloric content though.
