Feeding Instructions

Fresh Without The Fridge

Instinct FreshDried Raw Meals deliver fresh, raw nutrition in a convenient, shelf-stable format. With 3x more real meat & organs than kibble, these protein-packed scoop & serve recipes make it easy to upgrade your dog’s bowl — no freezer, thawing, or prep required. Serve as a complete and balanced meal, or use as a topper to boost nutrition and add mealtime excitement.

100% Fresh, 0% Compromise

FreshDried Raw Meals are 100% raw and never cooked; whole-food ingredients are cold-pressured to ensure safety and quality, and gently freeze-dried at peak freshness to lock in nutrients and flavor. The first ingredient in every recipe is responsibly sourced meat raised without antibiotics or added hormones, paired with non-GMO fruits and vegetables you can trust. No shortcuts and no fillers like grains or white potato — just raw food done right. FreshDried Raw Meals deliver real, whole-food nutrition in an easy to feed format.

Vet Formulated for Maximum Benefits

Thoughtfully formulated by veterinarians with your dog’s biology in mind, FreshDried Raw Meals focus on minimal processing to protect what matters most. Keeping ingredients raw helps preserve their natural nutrients and flavor, resulting in food that’s easier to digest and more appealing to dogs. The result is efficient nutrient absorption and meals that deliver both visible benefits and real enjoyment at the bowl.

Real Benefits You Can See

Raw pet food retains more antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins and minerals than cooked pet food — nutrients that are key to better health. Feeding your pet as little as 20% raw can promote improved digestion, skin and coat, sensitivity relief, healthy weight, and increased energy.

About Instinct

Instinct has been pioneering raw nutrition for pets since 2002. It all started when our founder observed how a raw, meat-based diet transformed the health of animals at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo — and set out to bring those same benefits to dogs and cats everywhere. Today, Instinct remains the raw brand leader, committed to minimally processed, real-food nutrition that helps pets thrive from the inside out.

Answer by ChewyAug 18, 2021
While this Raw Freeze-Dried Meals Cage-Free Chicken Recipe for Puppies is a complete and balanced diet for growing puppies, it can be used as a topper.

How much food do I increase per 10 LB if my puppy weighs more than chart? My 7 MO old weight 67 lbs

Answer by ChewyMay 03, 2021
If a puppy is expected to weigh over 70lbs as an adult, it is considered a large breed puppy. Large breed puppies have different nutritional needs during their growth period. Instinct Raw Boost Large Breed Puppy Grain-Free Recipe with Real Chicken & Freeze-Dried Raw Pieces Dry Dog food is available on our site.

Do you feed this just by itself or do you have to mix with kibble?

Answer by ChewyApr 12, 2021
This food is considered a balanced meal, and does not need to be mixed with the kibble.

Less expensive than it first seems

This is the only food my mini goldendoodle puppy will scarf down without a hassle. If you follow the package’s cups-per-day guidelines, it seems outrageously expensive

This is the only food my mini goldendoodle puppy will scarf down without a hassle. If you follow the package’s cups-per-day guidelines, it seems outrageously expensive. But I asked my vet how many calories my puppy needs per day, and realized that I was feeding him almost DOUBLE his max by following the lowest end of the package range for his age & weight. (He is 18 lbs & 5 months and needs 340 cals, or a cup and 3/4 per day. 400 cals max for a day of vigorous exercise. NOT 3–4.75 cups, or 570–902 calories per the package!) Apparently all dog food packages grossly overestimate feeding amount. Quality is great and picky puppy loves it enough to use for treats. Def ask your vet to do the calculation as to how many calories your puppy actually needs, and remember that includes treats!

Charley loves this food. He is a 4 month old St. Berdoodle and he was always begging for food before we switched. This really satisfies his appetite and while I see comments about it being expensive, it’s kind of mid-range and offers great nutrition. His stools have firmed up as well. We were using Fromm Puppy chiots.

This is one of the only brands of freeze dried puppy food I could find! I love that it includes ground bone and variety of parts of animal/prey, that being said, it smells pretty bad! Not like some other freeze dried adult foods we've tried. Puppy seems to love it, but doesn't go wild for it. Our dog is really picky, and he does pick these morsels out leaving the dry kibble in the bowl. Overall I'd say we like it! But the calorie /cup ratio is not very good, especially for the price. My puppy fills up after about 1.5 cups per meal, but for his weight, requires 10 cups a day? That's almost an entire bag/day. No way he can keep up with that much volume of food, so I'm not sure if he's getting enough calories with this.

My pom is such a picky eater. Thought I would give this a try! NOPE ! She won't eat it but she dose this cute thing with her nose and pushes it away! What am I going to do with this girl? We have tryed dry Orijen puppy food, dry Nutro brown rice and chicken puppy food and now this brand of food! Perhaps I just spoil her too much by preparing her homemade food and now she's just not going to eat any of the already made dry hard stuff!

Healthy food that my puppy loves!!

She has energy galore and seems very satisfied after I feed her - no begging once she’s fed and that’s rare for a beagle!

I use these for treats and training my pup. She’s food motivated and goes absolutely nuts for these. She loves them and I love that they break apart easily so I can give it to her as a little kibble bite or break it into two or three smaller pieces. I will repurchase without doubt, winner!
