Our German Shepherd died couple weeks ago and the next day our autoship order of food arrived. I contacted Chewy to cancel future shipments and possibly to return unopened package of food. Chewy advised me to donate to local shelter and immediately refunded last shipment. To top it off, an order of fresh flowers arrived today from Chewy as consolation for our loss. Chewy has earned ALL of our future pet needs.

Can’t change it now

When I adopted my current dog, she was about 30 lbs overweight, could barely jump in my car, and was on an expensive prescription diet. My thoughts were “I’ll put her on [insert high protein, grain free brand here]! She’ll be sleek and shinny in NO time!” No. Vet said absolutely not, and proceeded to lecture me of the issue going with commercial popularity rather than brands with evidence based formulas and years of experience already. “But my mom’s dogs are on grain free food!” I said, as though that meant anything to him. “And they’re chunky too, right?!” ... Unfortunately, he was the family vet and I couldn’t deny it. But instead of writing a prescription for my girl’s expensive food, he recommended Hills diet with “the chunky lab on it, like her but yellow” Maddie has been on this stuff for a year and lost 25 lbs with healthy exercise (and... lots of cheat snacks). We’ve used this type of food with chunky foster dogs too, and they love the stuff. I recently tried to transition her to two different brands (Pedigree, which Maddie was fed in her previous home, and Instinct, against vet orders), since weight loss was achieved and I wanted to add more calories and flavor to her diet. She would NOT eat the new food, even if it was soaked with gravy and stock. For now, we’re sticking to this brand (and for Maddie, this specific diet type with lots of treats and added wet food to help her maintain weight!). Can’t wait to see how this would impact her health in the long run!

I opened the bag & my finicky Lab went crazy. I had to buy 3 lbs bags of every dog food on the market to find something he would eat that wouldn’t upset his sensitive stomach. So I found Iams weight management & Iams sensitive stomach. I love Iams don’t get me wrong but Science Diet Weight Loss is a game changer. He’s losing weight and his sensitive stomach is completely fine. It’s been a blessing.

Great for Weight Loss

Vet suggested my Bernese Mountain Dog lose about 30 lbs. For over a year, increasing our activity level was not cutting it. This did the trick. Her weight is now in a healthy range. The down side: it wreaked havoc on her coat. Severe shedding and matting for 2 months before I figured out the problem. I immediately upped her supplements, especially Omegas. This made a substantial difference. It offered the necessary balance of lower calories without losing nutrients. I highly recommend adding a joint/ coat supplement if you need to implement this food! That being said, it really helped get her weight in line. She’s doing really well now, and in great condition, overall. Vet gave a rave review on her recent checkup.

Just coming off a cycle of 2 x 30lb bags of RX Hills weight management and saw slow but steady loss. Wanted to maintain the rhythm without killing the wallet with a giant breed, so switch to this. The numbers and kcals aren’t that far off, so hopeful for continued success. I have noticed that Biggs is much perkier and has a big pep in her step since the switch that we’ve all noticed, she’s even running around the yard. Considering she looks like a potato and gets fat on air, that’s awesome!!!

Not what I expected

My vet recommended Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic kibble for my slightly overweight Alaskan malamute. But at $80/bag, I looked for a less costly alternative

My vet recommended Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic kibble for my slightly overweight Alaskan malamute. But at $80/bag, I looked for a less costly alternative and came up with this product as the ingredients and the calorie content are similar to the more expensive Hill's product. My decision wasn't solely financial - I have been feeding my "malapal" Blue Wilderness kibble for almost two years and then, for the last four months, Blue Basics with lower calories. That said, I should have read the ingredients of this Hill's product more closely before ordering because it is largely composed of grains, which are a filler and source of empty calories. After three weeks on the kibble, I notice that my dogs stools are very dry and he still seems hungry after his twice-daily feeding. (He was being fed the recommended amount for weight loss, but I have increased the amount to the maintenance level.) I plan to gradually reintroduce him to Blue Basic when the current bag of Hill's is nearly finished. He may have lost some weight in the weeks it takes him to get through the 33-pound bag, but I believe he will be better off with a kibble with better ingredients. Now a disclosure: I have always added dark chicken meat and a quarter cup of string beans or peas (in hot water to make a broth) to his evening meals, and I believe that a quarter cup of meat was too much protein and fat, so I have reduced the amount to two tablespoons of shredded chicken. Still, I will not feed him a product whose primary ingredients are grains.

I was rescued, and the food that I was eating from the shelter, was the lowest brand of dog food. My new mom would try to give it to me as a 'treat' sometimes, but, I didn't want it. I would eat it as my meal, with the other things in my bowl, (carrots, ground turkey, pumpkin). Since my mom got the Hill's, I eat it as a treat as well as my meal. And I loves it. And I think I'm losing weight, although I have not been to get weighed since starting it.

I have two golden retrievers both subject to excess weight so I have been feeding them the light dog food for several years. It works great and keeps them satisfied. My goldens have all been Hill's Science Diet babies. I stand behind their dog food. My male golden lost his nose to cancer last year but still has excellent appetite and loves his meals so I have kept him on the light food to keep him healthy.

Easy switchover

My 7 year old lab was getting “chunky” and I researched quality foods that would help control her weight. The switch over was easy. No GI issues. Very pleased.
