About Hill's Prescription Diet Foods for Skin / Food Sensitivities

Improving Lives Together

Groundbreaking Nutrition for Sensitive Dogs

Dogs with skin and coat conditions or food sensitivities can benefit from Hill's Prescription Diet z/d and d/d foods. Prescription Diet d/d has limited ingredient nutrition and a single intact animal protein. The Prescription Diet z/d food features a highly hydrolyzed protein and a single carbohydrate source to minimize the risk of allergic reactions. Many pet parents discover that simply eating the right food helps eliminate food-related causes of skin irritation and helps avoid reactions to food.

With Hill's, it's not just high-quality ingredients that count. Their focus is on the proper balance of nutrients in every recipe. The results can be seen in Hill's Prescription Diet therapeutic pet foods.

Meeting the Highest Standards

Providing a food that delivers exactly what it says it does is Hill's number one priority, in fact, they perform over five million safety and quality checks every year. They've established relationships with trusted suppliers and will only accept ingredients that meet stringent standards.

Darling said NO

Our 13 year old Dachshund has been on Z/d for years due to horrible, recurring ear infections. The new bag we ordered had Darling giving us weird looks and she wouldn’t be so excited to eat. Then the vomiting started. We went to a local store and purchased another Z/d bag. Same response! She wouldn’t go near this food. Thankfully, Chewy is always kind and helpful when something happens in an order. I opted for the store credit, called the Vet for a substitute to the Z/d and will order another brand. In the meantime we substituted with Grandma Lucy’s Simple Replacement Salmon & Rice freeze dried food. Great recovery food and she’s happy and feeling better.

Buy something else

This review is also for the wet food because chewy won’t allow me to review that for some reason. My dog is refusing to eat this after they changed the formula

This review is also for the wet food because chewy won’t allow me to review that for some reason. My dog is refusing to eat this after they changed the formula. We’ve used Hill’s since 2022 but over the last few months it’s been harder and harder to get her to eat. I had an old bag of dry food I’ve been wetting down for 4 months. She’s lost almost half her body weight from starving herself. Dogs have better noses than we do so it really makes me wonder what they did to it to make it so unappealing. It doesn’t even look good anymore, it’s an inconsistent grayish color. There are other options. I called the vet to change brands and she’s happily fed now.

Beware Formula Change :(

My chihuahua has been on z/d for 3+ years, and it literally saved her life after almost dying from Protein Losing Enteropathy (a GI condition). But since Hills changed

My chihuahua has been on z/d for 3+ years, and it literally saved her life after almost dying from Protein Losing Enteropathy (a GI condition). But since Hills changed the formula, Bella no longer wants to eat her food and consequently she's lost weight which is so dangerous for her. Now I have to find an alternative and hope it doesn't jeopardize her life. I'm so disappointed in Hills. This is a **prescription** food - why did they mess with it??

My dog is thrilled to have the smaller bites dog food, because of his teeth. I'm so glad they have this size available. He's loving it!

Z/d has been the only hydrolyzed food that my dog will eat. But she gets borborygmi every 3 to 4 days on this food and also scoots her butt and licks her butt multiple times a day, as this food still elicits allergic symptoms in her. This food seems to be causing GI issues that make her refuse to eat for an entire day every 3 or 4 days. Very frustrating!

It was okay.

For some reason my dog didn't like it and was eating it if I hand feed him. Although I had to admit I was impressed with fast delivery.

Hill's Needs to Stop Changing Formulas

We got absolutely no warning that Hills added probiotics or whatever they're calling this "Activebiome+" formula. This went from the only food we could consistently

We got absolutely no warning that Hills added probiotics or whatever they're calling this "Activebiome+" formula. This went from the only food we could consistently give our dog to her having immediate issues after only one meal with it. Since this was on autoship for us, we get it as her food is running out, which gives us no time to gradually transition her from one formula to the next. I see Hill's is getting rightly reamed out for this on their website, and this is the second time this happened. We used to use Hill's Science Diet wet food, which they also inexplicably decided to change the formula of some months back. Why not just offer new products instead of fundamentally changing ones currently on the market, when we all know that doing so is harmful to our pets?
