Groundbreaking Nutrition for Sensitive Cats

Cats with skin and coat conditions or food sensitivities can benefit from Hill's Prescription Diet d/d and z/d foods. Prescription Diet d/d has limited ingredient nutrition and a single intact animal protein. The Prescription Diet z/d food features hydrolyzed protein and a single carbohydrate source to minimize the risk of allergic reactions. Questions & Answers

Does this food have the S+OX shield for urinary crystals in it? The bag I got from my vet has it but this one isn’t saying that it does.

Answer by ChewyOct 07, 2019
This recipe is formulated to promote a urinary environment that reduces the risk of developing struvite & calcium oxalate crystals. It does contain the S+OXSHIELD.

What’s the difference between this product and z/d?

Answer by ChewyMay 10, 2021
Both recipes are designed to help with skin/food sensitivities. The Hill's Prescription Diet d/d has limited ingredient nutrition with single intact animal protein to help avoid common food allergies. It also has added fish oil to eliminate the need for supplementing with clinically proven antioxidants to support a healthy immune system. Due to both recipes being prescription only, we recommend consulting with your veterinary to see which one would fit your pet's needs best.

The new formula contains “chicken liver flavour”. Is that natural (ie real chicken) or artificial flavour? I hope it’s not real chicken because this is supposed to be a food sensitivities diet! Having chicken defeats the purpose of using a novel protein like duck.

Answer by ChewyApr 12, 2021
The chicken liver flavor does not contain chicken protein. This is a limited ingredient nutrition with single intact animal protein (duck).

How long does it take to see an improvement in fur quality?

Answer by ChewyFeb 12, 2019
The duration until improvement is seen depends on the issues your pet is facing. Typically, it's a case by case basis. With food allergies, the issues can clear up pretty quickly, but each pet is different and it's best to have your veterinarian monitor your pets condition.

We have recently tried food trials for my cat who has ingredient allergies. This was our first successful attempt! She took to the food right away, and we are pleased to report that her symptoms have been greatly reduced (i.e. itchiness, scabs, hot spots, etc.) by the formula in addition to some great immunity and probiotic supplements. Hopeful for long-term healing!

I have a cat who has Very Bad food allergies. He has no problems on this diet. I also feed my other cat this food. They both Love the smell, and taste. The food also has the full nutrients to feed my other cat who doesn't have allergies. Only one problem: watch your cats weight. There are two pictures of "Augustus" (cat w/food allergies). One w/the T-Shirt he had to wear to stop him from chewing himself up & one now on the food :)

I was hesitant to purchase this food as the first 3/4 ingredients are peas, but my vet suspected a chicken allergy as my cat was biting her nails/fur out, extremely itchy with dandruff. I switched her to this food, and all of that cleared up in a few weeks and she had her kitten energy back. Several people even commented on her energy levels and how much softer and better her fur looked. She loves the taste too! I just wish they had a non-pate wet version to accompany it.

Works Miracles!

I cannot recommend this food enough. The transformation in my cat has been absolutely incredible! My cat had been self-barbering for several years before a vet recommended this food. At that point it felt like she constantly had a buzz cut on her belly and front legs, and would often lick until she developed sores on her skin. So we got the food, and while my cat hated the wet food, she was actually willing to eat the dry. There was no change for a while and I even began to grow skeptical, but then I realized something. Even though her fur wasn't noticeably growing back yet, she was starting to behave a little differently. For the first time in years she started regularly sitting with me on the couch, she wanted to play much more frequently, and she was just noticeably happier; it was almost like having a new cat! Then I realized I couldn't remember the last time I caught her self-barbering. Sure enough, slowly but surely all of her fur has grown back and she doesn't compulsively lick anymore. Seriously, this food is amazing!

After having two previous cats that had urinary issues and hotspots from regular food, this food is the BEST!! 3 healthy cats (touch wood) with no issues eating d/d and z/d diet. Friends comment on their coats and they keep a healthy weight. Too many products over the counter that can cause hotspots and urinary issues (especially in male cats) so paying out the extra is well worth it to keep them healthy and well. Purrsxxxx

My cat was vomiting his food so I switched to their sensitive skin and stomach formula but then developed seriously itchy ears and skin. My Veterinarian prescribed him the D/D formula. I slowly integrated it into food he was familiar with over a week then 100% just this food. I think he went a day or two, just barely nibbling it, but I knew he would eat it eventually. He had been eating it and his itch is gone scabs are healing. It's difficult not being able to give him treats or any other foods (used to get some can food in evening which I might get some of their D/D canned in addition). He seems more comfortable eating this regularly now.

Cat was pulling out hair on limbs, face and tummy, Steroids worked but not a solution. Vet said it was a Chicken Allergy and to remove from diet, Turns out most Fish, Beef etc. foods contain a form of chicken! When my vet prescribed Hill's Prescription Diet d/d Skin/Food Sensitivities Duck & Green Pea Dry Cat Food everything changed. Itching and hair pulling stopped quickly. Hair has grown back and no need for steriods. Real game changer.

Great Product

My 10 month old kitten has had digestive problems, food sensitivities, and food allergies his whole life. It had gotten so bad that he developed fecal incontinence

My 10 month old kitten has had digestive problems, food sensitivities, and food allergies his whole life. It had gotten so bad that he developed fecal incontinence. It was horrible. We were back and forth to the vet constantly. After doing a lot of research and talking to our vet, we decided to try Hills d/d duck and pea formula and within 4 days he had completely stopped defecating all over the house. He sleeps less and plays more and has become very affectionate. He even flips over to get his belly rubbed. He NEVER let you touch his belly before. This is the first food (tried 8 others) that he has not only been able to tolerate, but thrive on. Great product!

Oh my goodness but we tried everything with the Princess, who couldn't keep anything down and who would react violently to anything to which she was allergic, which seemed as if it were EVERYTHING. Fortunately, she took to this cat food like a duck to water, no pun intended, and is currently thriving and beautiful and happy. A happy cat makes a happy cat momma.
