The longevity of the bag will depend on the feeding amounts. It is recommended to feed your hamster/gerbil 2 to 3 tbsp of Sunburst per day depending on the age of your pet. Younger animals will eat more.

My dwarf hamster’s diet is 50% this and 50% the Mazuri rat and mouse blocks, along with some dried herbs, oat sprays, dried mealworms, and fresh vegetables on the side. This diet has worked incredibly well for all of my hamsters and keeps them healthy. This seed mix is probably the most important of these, and I think it is the best seed mix on the market. It has an amazingly high variety that can give hamsters almost all of the nutrients that they need. I just add the pellets and mealworms for a bit of extra protein. All in all, this seed mix is amazing!

Lola Loves It!

My daughter got her first hamster and we did tons of research before we got her. This hamster has the life... she has a giant tank with tons of hiding spots a wheel

My daughter got her first hamster and we did tons of research before we got her. This hamster has the life... she has a giant tank with tons of hiding spots a wheel and bunches of other stuff. A YouTube hamster expert said she feeds her hamsters a 50/50 mix of this food and mazuri rat/mouse food ... along with a container of dried mealworms. So we put this and the mazuri food along with the mealworms in a container and mixed it up well and feed her 2 tablespoons of the mix every couple of days until she finishes it all... we also give her a tablespoons worth of fresh fruit/veggies daily with a pinch of brewers yeast on it for her coat and stress. She is a happy healthy and sweet hamster who seems to be loving her life!! I 100 % recommend this food...I also recommend the mixing like I just wrote we took the hamster to our vet for a check up and she said the diet is perfect! :) Lola has a great life and we want to make sure my daughter has her hamster for as long as possible. If you are reading this and plan to get a hamster or already have one I plead with you to please make sure you have a giant cage for them or at best a giant aquarium glass tank that you set up for them with good bedding hiding spots and toys and chewers. It stresses hamsters so much to be in tiny spaces. They may be tiny but they need lots of space to play and burrow in.

Higgins Sunburst is probably the highest quality “pet store” hamster food you can find. A variety of seeds and nuts are in the mix, it is very enriching and my dwarf hamster absolutely adores it. The only downside is that it does not contain enough protein that hamsters need. To supply the protein my hamster needs, I mix in dried mealworms and Kaytee lab blocks in with the mix and it balances everything out perfectly. I would recommend buying this food!

I’ve been using the Higgins Vita Garden for my mice for a couple years, now, and I had originally planned to get the hamster version, but I wasn’t able to get to a store, so I decided to try this one, and I’m glad I did. My hamster really seems to like the variety, and I feel good feeding this to her.

I have two Chinese dwarf hamsters, Cleveland and Phillie. My boys love this food. Gave them some, and they instantly started putting some in their cheek pockets

I have two Chinese dwarf hamsters, Cleveland and Phillie. My boys love this food. Gave them some, and they instantly started putting some in their cheek pockets. However this food doesn’t have everything hamsters need. So I did combine this with other missing needs. Definitely will be getting this again.

My favorite store bought hamster and gerbil food yet! There is a vast variety of hamster food out there. It’s hard to decide what’s best for your littles. Once you start analyzing the ingredients though you’ll realize that most of them are just filled with fillers and lacking in actual nutrients. This food is actually at the top of the list for best hamster/gerbil food. It’s true this brand use to have added sugars which is a big no no for the littles, but as of about 6 months ago (from the time that I reviewed this) they have removed all added sugar. No hamster food is perfect and you’re going to find something to pick at with any of them, but overall this is the most balanced food that I have found. Unless you’re willing to make your own, I suggest trying this product. This food does lack in protein so you should feed this along with Mazuri rat and mouse lab blocks (which Chewy also conveniently sells). Feeding those 2 foods together along with fresh veggies will give your little one a very well balanced meal.

THIS is the food we recommend in the hamster keeping hobbyist community, this should not be fed on its own. You should also have a lab block or pellet to go with it, hamsters need 24% protein to live the healthiest life. Good lab blocks to go with Sunburst is Mazuri rat & mouse or Science selective pellets. If your hamster is 1.5 years old or older they should have 20% protein so cut back on lab blocks once a Senior. Hope this helps someone

I highly recommend this mix over basically any other store bought hamster food. High variety, and has the most protein out of just about any other commercially available hamster seed mixes. That being said, this seed mix will not provide enough protein on it's own (same with just about every other commercial hamster food) so supplement it with a lab block as well. My hamster absolutely loves this mix, he will eat everything except for the brown pellets (i believe they're timothy hay pellets? I'm talking about the pieces that look sort of like guinea pig pellets). I also noticed this mix contains a particularly high amount of millet seeds compared to the rest of the other types of seeds in this mix. my hamster likes the millet seed so that isnt a problem for me, however it's something to take note of if you know that your hamster doesnt like millet
