Higgins inTune Complete & Balanced Diet Grain-Free Ferret Food, 4-lb bag

This is a pretty decent ferret diet overall. ***PROS: ferrets seem to really like the taste, and the pieces are very small, which suits their tiny mouths. It does not contain any peas/chickpeas or other legumes. I also like that it does not contain any corn. It meets a ferrets nutritional needs for protein and fat and is low in fiber. ***CONS: Contains potato, which contributes to the total crude protein. The total crude protein is only made up of about ~70% 'animal-based' protein (according to a representative from intune when asked via email). This is a poor comparison to some of the other ferret kibble brands that us ~90% or higher animal-based protein to make up the total crude protein amount. Bottom line - It's a decent, budget friendly kibble to add to a mix of one or more higher quality kibbles that contain a larger percentage of animal-based protein.

The 3rd listed ingredient in this food is peas. Peas have been known to cause bladder stones in ferrets. Look for a food low in peas, if possible. There is a fantastic food comparison chart, if you google Ferret food chart. I find that the Weebly one is the best, & most comprehensive. There, it explains what is ideal when looking for foods for ferts. Itll also explain why certain things in foods are best to try to avoid. Its better if peas are 10th ingredient or less (11th ingrdt, 12th,etc). These little dookers have such sensitive tummies, & a stricter nutritional need than other pets would have. Hope this helps. My 2 ferrets have been on this brand mixed with 2 others since they were 3 months old. One of the best ingredient lists I have found, ferrets love it and it shined up their coat and has them full of energy! Thank you Higgins!

Excellent food. The ferrets really love this food, it took them a bit to get used to it, but now they devour it!
