To Love is Dog. To Protect is Human.

Prevent heartworm disease with a tasty, real-beef chew

  1. A mosquito becomes infected by biting a heartworm-infected animal.
  2. The larvae mature in the mosquito and develop to infective L3 larvae, ready to infect the next host.
  3. The infective larvae are deposited on the surface of the skin as the mosquito feeds and then enter the new host.
  4. HEARTGARD Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel), when taken in regular monthly doses, is highly effective at preventing new infections by preventing larvae from developing to adult worms.

About Heartgard

Just one bite from an infected mosquito could put your dog at risk for heartworm disease, but HEARTGARD Plus offers the protection your dog needs. This heartworm preventive is made with real beef, has a savory taste and is the #1 dog-preferred chew.[1] HEARTGARD Plus makes protecting your dog year-round easy and enjoyable month after month.

used to love chewy, thought they were an amazing company!!! Unfortunately I feel the exact opposite now!!! Where do I begin??? So I’ll just Randomly start with the first issue that comes to mind, and remember all these issues have been back to back to back!!!! So the “Pet MD” omega 3 fish oil soft gels for dogs, is not technically for dogs!!! Dogs have to have vitamin e to deliver the omega and there is not a drop of vitamin e in it. So for a lot of dog owners you’re just wasting money. But for some you’re poisoning your dog, some dogs just store it up since it’s not going to use. Grant it. It’s not like giving them anthrax but it’s not helping them either. Now let me go to the next subject 200 dollars worth of heart worm medicine the last 3 doses had some manufacturing defects and were literally hard as a rock. I could not cut them with a serrated knife, I soaked them in water nothing. Well after dozens of emails chewy just passed it on to heartgard. And heargard passed it on to chewy so I got nothing. Then I had refills on my dogs medicine well their system would not let me order the refills then the refills expired. So I ordered more well after 2 weeks the order still said waiting for vet approval usually takes 1-2 days. Well 2 weeks I message chewy they say oh we will call the vet first thing in morning. I said okay. 3 more days go by still no word from chewy in any of this. I message again this time they tell me my vet switched to no more verbal prescriptions I have to go in to see them. I was just there 3 weeks ago. And now have to bring 2 healthy dogs back to the vet and pay more unnecessary money cuz chewy didn’t inform me. I’m also mad at vet and will be switching for not informing as well and also refusing to let chewy accept a verbal authorization and wanting us to come spend more money. So bye bye mounds animal clinic in mounds Minnesota!!! I’m tired of typing but have several dozen more instances to go along with this monologue!!!!!

Cant say how well the stuff works, and if it dont work great I blame chewy/fedex

Cant say much on the meds yet, and since left in the heat the efficacy of them may be affected according to the manufacture I called, who I called after calling chewy and getting no answers and left on and off hold for almost 20 minutes. Chewy ships with the worst shipper in my experience, fed ex. They left the package on my porch in the sun to bake 6-8hrs, nevermind the box says rx all over it. Inside the heart guard says keep it under 77, excursions up to 86 are permitted(it was 91 in dallas where the four packs started their journey in the back of a dry van tractor trailer), Tanisha from chewy ,without skipping a beat when I called, I also gave her none of my order information either mind you, but when asked about the medication said oh its fine without a second thought or explanation, also not knowing where it shipped, or how hot it was there. I was trying to ask questions to better understand and she was snippy, short and quick to answer before all details given, she just wanted off the phone fast. Didn’t seem to care about my animals or chewys money as she was quick to just offer another round of meds out as fast as she could. This is my first order here and hopefully not my last as I’ve heard a-lot of good, but this has me wondering if a-lot of people just settle for the easy way out or dont read and care for their pets to the same level. I’ll have my pets tested again before I buy the next set of meds, $28 per test plus the visit and I have four dogs, smallest is 65 lbs, not a cheap bill just to make sure the stuffs working that you cant trust because of poor handling and shipping practices not to mention cost of the meds to begin with.

We have been attempting to give our dog heart worm medication for months. Each month we would attempt to mix in his food, ground the pill up, force it down his throat, or add to a pill encased dog treat, no way would our dog swallow the heart worm pill. This month we changed to this new brand and he swallowed it without a thought! We will definitely stick with Heartgard!!

I needed a new prescription for Heartguard for my 7 year old lab. I left a message on my vets prescription line. I attempted to pick up the prescription a few days later, at which time I was told that it wasn’t stocked at the hospital. They suggested that I use their online pharmacy. Which I did. But the site would not accept my email address. I then turned to CHEWY. They asked that I get a hard copy of the prescription from my vet which I did. I then mailed it to Chewy and they sent the Heartguard pronto. Does anyone else understand my angst until Chewy stepped in?

I used to be happy with Heartguard until my dog contracted a Heartguard-resistant strain of heart worm. Months of treatment (and over $1K in vet bills later) and he still has heart worm. I foolishly trusted Heartguard reps when I called and told them of my pup contracting heart worm while on Heartguard, and they claimed there must have been a delayed dose (even though I fastidiously track my pets' med schedules) causing the heart worm. Thus, when my pup had his Immiticide injections (which successfully killed the adult worms), my pup tested positive again for heart worm after treatment because I stupidly trusted Heartguard regarding a Heartguard dosing delay issue and used Heartguard during my pup's Immiticide treatments, leading my pup to have surviving microfilaria (baby heartworms) that Immitiicide doesn't kill, but Heartguard is supposed to. I am switching to Simparica Trio, for which my vet and the internal medicine specialist advised they have not seen resistant heart worm strains. In the meantime, my little guy is still undergoing heart worm treatment (fingers crossed he beats this) and I'm still shelling out hundreds in vet bills.

I have two picky hounds: one loves chicken but won't touch turkey, the other expects a gourmet meal every day -- and goodness know why; he's never gotten one. Maybe it's because he's French and has that naturally sophisticated palette. Regardless, both dogs turn up their noses at any medication. They can spit it out whether it's buried in sirloin, yogurt, or peanut butter. Heartgard, they actually like. The chew it, they swallow it, they ask for more. I kinda wish they'd take over all dog medication. Sure would make things easier at our house!!

This Heartgard is what my veterinarian has prescribed for both of my dogs to take to prevent heartworms. They've taken it for years with no issues. But getting our 6 month supply from Chewy is truly wonderful. Chewy lets me know when we are running low or the Rx is nearly expiring. They contact the vet's office, get approval for refill and it's on they way, easy peasy! The last time I checked the cost for the same product was the same between Chewy and my vet's office. I love not having to go anywhere and having this Rx sent straight to my house!

Although I've fed the Wholesome brand for over 2 years, over the last 1-2 months it has caused her stool to be soft at best, and runny on other days. I have switched my next auto-ship to Wholesome-sensitive stomach lamb/rice. Her fecal tests are clear of any parasites, Guardia, Cocci, etc, so I feel like something has changed in the Wholesome food recipe. This has always been her main food and I think if the sensitive stomach doesn't show improvement I will need to switch to a competative priced alternative. I'm very frustrated at this pont
