Learn More About Frontline Plus From Our Team of Experts

Important Information

Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your pet has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. It may take up to 90 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

Fast-Acting, Long-Lasting Protection

Frontline Plus is formulated with two active ingredients that kill fleas and ticks and prevent new flea infestations from developing. It’s waterproof 24 hours after application, lasts for a full 30 days, and comes in formulas for cats or dogs.

Easy One-Spot Topical Application

Frontline Plus is a spot-on solution that’s available without a prescription. 1 dose = 30 days of protection.

Protects Your Pet

  • Starts killing fleas and ticks fast and protects against reinfestation.
  • Waterproof for a full 30 days starting 24 hours after application.
  • Monthly dosing keeps your dog protected for every season.

How to Apply

Follow these simple steps for application:

  1. Hold upright with foil side toward you and snap applicator tip.
  2. Part hair and apply on shoulder blades, completely emptying the pipette.
  3. Leave the solution to spread through your pet's coat.

About Frontline Plus

To ensure your dog stays protected from fleas and ticks all year round, treat them monthly with Frontline Plus. This simple, easy, one-spot topical solution helps keep your pet free from infestations, providing you with peace of mind.

What type of ticks is Frontline effective on? As there are 6 different types of ticks in my area and not all Tropicals cover all 6.

Answer by ChewyJun 11, 2019
Frontline Plus treats against Lone Star Ticks, American Dog Ticks, Deer Ticks, Brown Dog Ticks, and Western Blacklegged Ticks.

How long after applying Frontline does it take for fleas and ticks to die

Answer by ChewyJul 21, 2019
In a study, FRONTLINE Plus began killing fleas 4 hours after application. Another study showed that within 12 hours, Frontline Plus killed 100% of fleas. This kills fleas and ticks through contact with your pet's haircoat so no biting is necessary. Fleas rise to the top of your pet's haircoat as they die. So, if you start seeing more fleas after treating your pet, consider it a victory for the killing force.

What’s the difference between frontline plus and frontline gold?

Answer by ChewyNov 25, 2020
Both, Frontline Plus and Frontline Gold, are effective against ticks, fleas, and lice in both immature and adult versions. The only difference is that Frontline Gold kills fleas faster than Frontline Plus does. Frontline Gold has added a powerful third ingredient, pyriproxyfen which helps to kill the next generation of flea eggs and larvae before they can develop in to adult fleas. Both products require monthly applications and are safe to use in all dogs and puppies above 8 weeks of age.

Does this treatment expire? If I buy a pack of twelve treatments for one dog it will take me a whole year to use them so, I'm basically just wanting to make sure that it won't go bad before I use them all. Thanks!

Answer by ChewyJun 17, 2020
Frontline Plus does not have an expiration date. As long as you keep it at room temperature and sealed in its original packaging, it will remain ready for use.

While our pups have been completely fine over the last few years with Frontline. I don’t think I can trust this any longer. It’s not only given one of my dogs a rash every time we put it on her, we’ve noticed for the last two months (at least) that these are not repelling ticks at all. This was found ALIVE on the bed next to our girls, meaning it had fed and released, and now I’m hoping they don’t get sick. Either these dosages are old, or they changed, because they’re no longer working.

Hello! It’s Frankie the Pyrenees Rescue Dog! Normally I only write reviews for toys because that’s all I care about, but my mom insisted I write one about this gel. I didn’t get what it was at first or why my Dad was putting this weird gel on my back, but now I don’t totally hate the feel of it. Plus my mom said it helps protect me so I can spend time outside. I LOVE being outside. My mom did say to warn other pet parents that they should give their dogs a bath hours before putting this on. She said it has to sit in for a little while so it’s best to be clean before hand. I’m not so sure about that last part, who needs baths to begin with! But I do what my mom says cause she controls my bone bag. Here’s a picture of me enjoying the great outdoors knowing I’m protected from those pesky bugs!

I have used Frontline Plus for dogs for over 15 years both in my own dogs as well as dogs that I’ve fostered. It has always proven to be an effective treatment and preventative for fleas and ticks. There is a review here from someone claiming they received a counterfeit item and they cannot believe Chewy would be selling counterfeit items. The person is confused in their interpretation of the information they received. The person is using information from the EPA from 20 years ago and clearly does not know the difference between a LOT number and an EPA Regulation License number. The numbers listed by the EPA are simply the EPA License number given for each product that was/is being effected by counterfeiters. If Chewy received any counterfeit items they would have no way of knowing unless they opened each individual box and inspected the contents before selling them. The boxes printed by the counterfeiters look EXACTLY like the factory boxes. The differences are inside the boxes. I am posting screenshots of the information directly from the EPA. It is YOUR job to do your due diligence in inspecting the product before just applying it to your dog. That being said, medications and topical solutions created for pets or humans ALWAYS have side effects and ALWAYS have restrictions towards certain medical conditions OR can’t be used in combination with other drugs or topicals. YOU are responsible for ensuring that you are keeping your pet safe from any bad interactions. If you’re not sure, call your vet.

Defective Formula

I am canceling this auto ship and also will be requesting info for a return and refund for both the dog and cat frontline. Unfortunately frontline does not protect from fleas and ticks. Following my previous order and application of frontline, my dog suffered a skin allergy and needed the vet (2.5/3weeks after application of the frontline). The vet stated she had flees which was creating an allergic reaction. I shared I was using frontline and told the application date. The vet explained that Frontline’s formulation no longer works due to flees and ticks having built an immunity to it. She put her on a prescription based formula. I immediately brought my other dog and two cats in that same week and sure enough, they too had flees. The vet stated this is a known issue with Frontline’s formula for years. Adding that vets and Frontline are aware of this! I used frontline years ago with a pet that is now passed and I loved frontline so I was so shocked. Very disappointed in frontline because I truly thought frontline was a trusted company but for this to be a known issue and they continue to market and sell to pet owners is very deceptive! The vet put all my pets on a prescription based formula now that is working perfectly. I did not realize that I was signed up for a subscription to frontline until receiving the lasted package recently. So I not only want to cancel the auto ship but I would like a refund for the defective products as well. Though this is a Frontline issue and I love CHEWY, I am a bit taken back that CHEWY is allowing the sell of a known defective product and hope they look into what their stance should be with backing products on their site to customers.

I used to us this products on my previous GSD with good results years ago. When I got a GSP the vet (whom I trust and don't believe tries to push any products just because they sell it, very nice vets) said this product was no long effective and recommened one of the chewable flea and tick products. I gave that to my pup twice. Both times he was lethargic and acted like he was drugged for at least two weeks after each dose and didn't want to eat. He was also scratching more. didn't think about the fact the stuff doesn't kill the fleas and ticks until they bite the animal. What good does that do?! The idea is to not get them bitten. Anyway, bought this from chewy, applied it the next month, no scratching, no lethargy, normal eating. I would not recommend the chewable flea and tick medicine to anyone. I'll stick with frontline plus until it actually does become uneffective, then, and if that time comes, I'll look for another topical. Or got to the newer topical frontline has. and I have a cat and just keep the dog away from her the day I apply it. No problems.

I’ve used this fleas product for years. Though usually only one application during the Summer was all that was needed. Unfortunately this time it nearly killed my small female Golden Retriever, even though she’s previously tolerated it fine. $1200 in Vet bills later, and thankfully she is now fully recovered. I only applied half of the recommended tube. I split it between my 2 Goldens. Had I used the full recommended amount she might not have survived. I also washed her with Dawn dish soap and warm water to remove any that was not already absorbed into skin cells. That seemed to help. Think before you apply this poison to your dog, could there be a safer choice? I’ll never risk either of my dog’s lives again using this product. Once it’s absorbed you can’t get rid of it.

Frontline used to work well 20 years ago. I recently adopted a puppy, he had a lyme's test, and was negative. I applied frontline to him every 4 weeks, at least 48 hours after his bath. At his 1 year vet check, he had lyme's disease. I still had a box of frontline with 5 doses left (he was done growing at this point) so I figured I'd apply it until I ran out, then switch over to an oral preventive. I still have 3 doses left, and over the past summer/fall months I have found multiple ticks on him, either crawling or attached and feeding (and unfortunately they are large by the time I find them). The preventative seems to be doing nothing to prevent ticks. I wish they didnt advertise it as a tick prevention, then perhaps my dog wouldn't have lyme's disease at such a young age. I wouldn't recommend Frontline anymore, I think the ticks have grown immune to the ingredients. Even with the small seizure risk, oral preventives seem like the best route nowadays if you want protection from ticks.

After correctly and promptly using this product for three months, I recently noticed two ticks crawling on my dog's legs. Upon further inspection, I found two attached ticks. My dog was recently diagnosed with anaplasmosis, which can be transmitted after a tick is attached for 12-24 hours. This product claims to kill attached ticks within 48 hours, but for anaplasmosis and lymes, this is far too late. The bacteria has already been transmitted. I wish I had done more research before I bought this product, and i regret buying an eight month supply! I will not be purchasing this again. It did not protect my pet from infections transmitted by ticks.
