Is this product freezable?

Chewy will ship the product frozen to keep it fresh. We recommend serving Freshpet food fresh from the fridge, but you can choose to freeze any unused portions for later use. Just thaw frozen portions in the fridge before serving. Be aware that you may see a slight change in color and texture when thawed, but this won’t change the nutritional value or taste of the meals.

I always find it difficult to rate and review any type of food unless there is a major, obvious issue that I believe others should know about. However, with this product, the only problem is my dogs won’t eat it! They used to love it but one of their traits is that they get bored with foods after a few months and I need to find a new one for them. They’ve had Fresh Pet before and loved it. But not this time. None of my three dogs were interested in it at all. I took some and ground it up and turned it into a “topper” for another food and they ate it like that. However, my cats love it! Once I take it out of the fridge, the cats line up and wait for me to throw them a few pieces of the chicken. I ended up giving most of it to my friend who has a Yorkie and she loves it!

For ten years, my three dogs have been on extremely expensive prescription canned food diets. During the pandemic lockdown, the manufacturers changed something and the quality and quantity of the food suffered. My dogs suddenly refused to eat their prescription food. I searched for a food that I could replace their prescriptions with and have been trying out Freshpet Vital. They prefer the chicken recipe, but I found that if I heat the other varieties up a bit before feeding them, they’ll gulp down even the types they don’t like as much when served straight out of the fridge. None of the dogs have had a bout of pancreatitis, which is their biggest health concern. If this food continues to work for us, I’ll be saving $14 a day. I recently retired, so every cent counts.

Our little rescue dog took forever to eat regularly. 8 to 10 different foods were tried and this one was the game changer. He now eats on schedule regularly. We tried a similar refrigerated food from the grocery store but he won’t eat it. Only the FreshPet from Chewy’s. Go figure. About a year ago Mr. Picky Eater wants a little of the bigger dogs kibble (about 2 tablespoons) mixed in with his food too. So we started adding some of the refrigerated food to the bigger dogs kibble too. We have two happy dogs.

My four year old corgi was never a fan of kibble, so I thought I would give this a try. She loves this so much. The four bags last about 2 weeks. It comes totally frozen, so I just store in in the freezer until I need it. She is maintaining a good weight and her coat has never looked better. I also notice that she doesn’t poop as much, but that is because it is a fresh diet with no fillers in it. Initially, my plan was to mix it half and half with her kibble, but decided that she deserves to eat what she loves. It actually smells pretty good.

She began to get weak from not eating as much. I tried this and she ate it all with no stomach issues. She is excited to eat again! My senior dog is back to playing and has so much more energy.
