How long until this is back in stock? We’ve been waiting weeks.

This product stained my solid white cat’s paws blue. Do I need to be worried? Can you confirm this product is nontoxic if he licks his now blue paws? I ordered cat litter not a technicolor cat?!?

Is the crystals suppose to absorb the pee? Do I have to scoop out the pee also?

Answer by ChewyApr 22, 2018
The Fresh Step Crystals quickly absorb moisture including urine. It's a non-clumping litter so it's best to change the litter box in 20- 30 days.

the urine builds up at bottom of litter pan - is there something i can do to eliminate this as when changing it out the fumes are pretty intense.

Answer by ChewyMay 06, 2019
It is recommended to scoop the feces out at least daily and stir the litter to distribute the silica to absorb the urine. When you notice the crystals are unable to absorb any more, it is time to empty out the entire box, clean it, dry it, and add fresh litter.

My family and I have been using this for well over a decade and it has been very effective for our cats. We recently received some in our autoship that seemed to cause more dust, the product is finer, and also seems more fragranced. The new packaging has Febreeze specifically mentioned, and while the old bags did not, it's unclear what's causing both my cat and I to have respiratory since they've claimed nothing has changed with the formula. Regardless, we will no longer be buying.

I’ll never go back to clay litter. The crystals absorb and there is no smell. I put a layer of baking soda on the bottom of the pan every time I change it. I buy the largest box of baking soda (very cheap). I scoop litter once a day and it lasts 3 weeks for one very large cat. It is more expensive but very little dust and no smell!

I’ve been using this crystal litter for a long time. My cats love it but I really wish it was unscented and less dusty. And, it’s gotten so expensive that I always shop around to find it on sale. It use to be $15.99 a bag and it’s usually $22.99/$25.99 now. Crazy expensive

Crystal litter

It’s very dusty and has a strong odor. Cats have not used the litter box that has it as much as the other box with best cat litter in it.

Not AS Heavy as regular litter

The FRESH STEP CRYSTALS CAT LITTER weighs a lot less than normal cat litter. It also has a different way of dealing with cat waste. Normal litter will clump around urine or feces, but FRESH STEP CRYSTALS doesn't clump at all. The crystals absorb the urine so you won't be dealing with large clumps when clearing the litter box. Likewise, feces don't clump but become dried out fossils that retain their shape and color and that's what you'll be fishing out when doing maintenance. The thing about the non-clumping, and it might be a drawback for some, since the urine doesn't clump you won't be able to remove just the urine thereby saving money by only adding fresh litter to the existing batch. Since the crystals all absorb the liquid, you won't be able to tell which ones are full until they become oversaturated, which is when they'll turn a darker shade of blue and look moist. But by then most of the crystals have absorbed the pee and you have to change out the used litter with a fresh batch. I have one cat so it's not that big a deal to me, but I find that I have to do a complete litter box cleaning every other month, which entails removing all the litter and then washing and disinfecting the litter box, drying it, and adding fresh litter.

BTW, the review wouldn't allow me to remove my dog Mandy, who doesn't use a litter box! I gave this litter 4 stars because my cats are being a little stubborn in transitioning to the Fresh Step Crystals. They will occasionally pee in it, and once every couple of days I might find some poo in it. I initially set a pan of Fresh Step Crystals and a pan of clumping littler. They used the clumping litter exclusively. So, I added some Fresh Step Crystals to the clumping littler. They knew the Fresh Step was to be used and I would find pee in it and they would use the clumping litter/Fresh Step mixture for pee and poo. Today, after about a week of having the mixture available to them, I have pulled the mixed pan and left just the Fresh Step Crystals. I am hoping I don't find poo in other places. If it wasn't for them not wanting to use the Fresh Step Crystals, I would have given it 5 stars because I like that it is dust free and also that only the poo needs to be removed.

I have been using these for a few years now. My cats like it. It is easy to maintain daily. I have 4 cats and 5 litter boxes that I attend to daily. In a multi-cat household it has worked better for me to switch out completely at around 3 to 3 1/2 weeks as opposed to the recommended 4.

Best Litter

This is the best litter! Easy to use (of course), cat likes it, and good at resolving odor problems in a small apartment.

I used this litter for a long time with one cat, but with three cats it didn’t work as well. It doesn’t mask scent very great, so it has to be changed out often, and even more so with more cats, of course. The pee would sink down to the bottom and puddle up. The litter is also very, very bouncy, so it will end up ALL over the place all the time. Since switching from this after a couple years to Arm & Hammer has made things a lot better.
