As a cat consultant I often recommend an unscented litter, because cats are very sensitive to smell, especially in their litter boxes. I had my reservations when trying this litter out. So I set it up just like I tell my clients. One box with one litter and the other box with the new litter. Much to my surprise the cats consistently picked the Fresh Step box! Another advantage is the scent is not overpowering like the 'scented' litters of the past. This litter is paw activated and the scent is released only when the cat scratches in the box. By the end of the week ...all 4 cats were trying to use the same litter box! I had to set up an extra box with the Fresh Step litter in it.

I've tried so many litters having 3 Cats. I've even tried wood pellets. This blows everything out of the park. I vacation a LOT. With other litters I've come home after only 3 days away and my house reeks of cat urine from other litters. I had a house sitter and they are cleaning the litter just fine. I bought 2 tubs of this litter, was gone for a month, and I came back expecting my house to reek and anticipated cleaning around the litter box with ammonia....it didn't smell at all. My house smelled clean. I loved it. Oh, and my sitter had JUST opened the 2nd box of litter. So, 1 box lasted a month with 3 Cats and now a kitten. The ONLY thing I wish this brand did was package their litter in large plastic tubs. That, however, is not a reason to switch brands. This litter hasn't changed their formula like other brands have while also increasing prices. There isn't anything better on the market. When my female had her kitten, they say clumping litter can possibly harm kittens in mother carries it back while nursing, and I didn't worry about this litter with her.

I was very upset the last time I bought it. It was 42 pounds of litter. And it was only 22 or $23. Last time I bought it, they took out 4 pounds. It is only 38 pounds now. And they raised the price to $25 or $26. Just like everything, raise the price and make the products smaller

If you live in a small apartment, you might become very familiar with the smell of your cat’s litter. I know I have. You may have even gone nose blind to it, but that doesn’t mean your guests have. I never imagined that cat litter could smell good. Seriously, I’ve only been using this litter for a week but I’ve almost forgotten to clean my cat's box a few times because I couldn’t smell it. Pro Tip: If you’re worried about how your cat will react to switching from a non fragranced litter to a fragranced one, try to slowly integrate it into your old litter. This way your cat will become accustomed to the smell, and still know that this is where they need to do their business. Besides the smell, the biggest surprise for me was how well his pee clumped. My cat likes to dig and cover after he goes to the bathroom, so sometimes he breaks up the clumps and it kind of becomes a nightmare to clean. But this Fresh Step litter clumped so well, I swear it was like tiny little indestructible snowballs of cat pee. I didn’t realize how much of a game changer this litter would be. There may be cheaper litters out there, but honestly this was so worth it. For the sake of the smell of your home, and your sanity, spend the couple extra bucks. I’ve been cleaning litter boxes for practically my whole life, and this has been the easiest experience I’ve ever had.
