Yes but I added packing tape along the edge, it didn’t feel super secure since the black piece the cord connects to isn’t completely flat against the tank.

can this item be safely used with an acrylic habitat?

This heat mat reaches a consistency of this 100° Fahrenheit. It is safe to use with acrylic tanks, however if you have a lot of sand or substrate at the bottom, we recommend that the heater is taped to the back of the tank.

How can this be placed on the side?

We suggest using tape to keep the heat mat on the outside side wall of the terrarium.
