Does this emit light? Is it safe to use for a bearded dragon at night?

Could this be used for keeping a hedgehog warm?

Answer by ChewyApr 30, 2024
This bulb is intended for reptiles or amphibians. It provides heat without bright, blinding light.

Will this work for a ball python in a 30-50 gallon tank?

Answer by ChewyJul 11, 2019
The size light needed would depend on how much heat is needed for your pet, not the size of the terrarium. It is recommended for your ball python, for the cage to have a cool end that is 80-85º Fahrenheit (26.7-Celsius) and a warm end that is 90-95º Fahrenheit (32.2-35º Celsius), so the snake can thermoregulate. The bigger the tank, the higher the wattage can be, such as a 60 watt bulb for a 55 gallon tank. Under-tank heating pads or ceramic heat emitters are preferred. You should use a timer to make sure that the light cycles are maintained appropriately.

What is the radius? Will it fill a 5.5-in lamp?

Answer by ChewyApr 25, 2022
This has a diameter of 3.5 inches (radius 1.75 inches). The Fluker's Ceramic Reptile Heat Emitter should be used in the clamp lamp 8.5" (can be with dimmer or with switch model) but the 8.5" lamp is rated up to 150 watts. The 5.5" lamp is only rated up to 75 watts and cannot support this bulb as it is 100 watts.

I have an Afican Sucata that lives outside and sleeps in a large dog house which has 2 of these heaters controlled by a thermostat. This system works exceptionally well and keeps his house at 70° year round. I would be giving 5 stars but one of the heaters came with damaged threads which cannot be used and due to the price is not worth my time or effort to return.

I have a bioactive leopard gecko tank and decided to switch from a basking lamp to a ceramic heat emitter and I’m way happier now! The tank is much more warm and doesn’t have an overbearing amount of light since che doesn’t emit light. (side note: light in picture is from the uvb lamp)

I originally bought one of these for my boa and we are using one over our tortoise currently now as well. They are a nice alternative to a bright heat lamp and can provide 24 hour heat while allowing your reptile to have dark time. They can be put on a thermostat to regulate heat or a dimmer that comes with some Flukers lamp domes. You do need to use a temp gauge to set your temp to the desired range but once it's set, it will maintain constant temps. Be sure to set the temp or this emitter will get hot...at least 106 degrees or hotter. This one is a 100 or 150 watt, so make sure you get a bigger dome that accommodates the higher wattages that the smaller 5 inch Fluker and other domes won't.

This hood works fine. I combined it with the flukers ceramic heat bulb which worked well. The clamp allows you to twist the lamp around to easily position it where the heat is needed The product requires some assembly, and Flukers did not include assembly instructions. I'll include some images to show how I assembled it, which should help with assembly. Also, no label for On or Off on the on/off switch. There is a small line etched in the plastic which apparenly means "ON."

I chose the Fluker's Heat Emitter over a heat lamp for safety reasons. It is used in a pen for two domestic mini bunnies who were abandoned in my garden and rescued at death's door. The vet was prepared to euthanize one. I nursed them back over several weeks and now they are flourishing in a pen in my laundry room. They spend most time out of their little teepee house under the heat emitter on a cushion of baby quilts. It gives me such joy to see them healthy, warm and happy. While the Fluker emitter now being used has had a long life, I bought two emitters in last purchase to be sure I have one at hand at all times as winter approaches. The projection is that we are in for an unusually cold winter in Maine. Thanks, Chewy, for helping me keep these sweet bunnies warm and safe.

Pay now, save later! These will last a very long time. I have had two for as long as I can remember! My ball python,Bob, is 25 years old! I think two ceramic bulbs are the originals or close to it. I also use my plant grow lights for Bob with a timer. He gets everything he needs. I keep a thermometer in there to monitor the temperature, of course. I feel this company makes quality products. Oh... I’ve had Bob since he was a hatchling. I bought him for my son when he was 10. Of course it’s me who has really been his caregiver and always will be. Who says snakes aren’t lovable?

Fits Zoo Med Deep Double Dome; Works Great for Birds

As I have two older Diamond Doves and don't use the heat in the house, a heat lamp is necessary for the colder months. The cage they are in is quite large (23"x32"x37"), giving them room to get up close or stay very far from the heat. I would NOT recommend this bulb (150W) if the cage is small and they are unable to pick the temperature that they are comfortable at. I am able to leave it on the cage directly with no issues, and I accidentally left in on with the cage cover over it and nothing happened (thank goodness!). That does bring me to the only "negative". You cannot tell it is on as it emits no light. For me, that is a positive as I sleep in the same room as the cage, but it can cause issues. I typically leave it unplugged unless I am using it to prevent it from accidentally being turned on and my not noticing. Overall, a very good buy.

Nice and warm

I use this for my hedgehog cage. It gives him a nice spot of warmth. It is just a heat ball so there is no light. No interfering with being nocturnal.

I've been told these last for a VERY very long time, and the packaging even says it should last thousands upon thousands of hours. I finally purchased one for my ball python, Ragnarok, and it's been great so far. It keeps her warm side at around 90°, and she has a heat mat underneath her tank that keeps the substrate warm as well. I love the no light feature! Nights have been colder this year than previous California ones, so it's great to be able to keep it on all night and watch her enjoy herself inside her cage. I have it connected to the Fluker's lighting dome & it works so nicely (: For this price, too, I will be purchasing more. You go into any local pet store, and they range based on wattage from $30-$40 where I am!!
