Feliway classic, multicat, and optimum all say feline pheromone at 2% in the ingredient list; why is the optimum so much more expensive and I have to buy new difusers if they all have the same amount of feline pheromone in them?

Answer by KarenApr 17, 2026
I use the same difuser with all of the feliways

Does this help with two male cats that atent neutered?

Answer by ChewyMar 29, 2018
We'd recommend using the MultiCat system in the room where the cats frequent the most, it should help calm and reduce tensions.

I first saw these in my Vets office. Was skeptical, but put several around the house. (I do Cat Rescue, and have a mini cat hotel in progress) The results were noticed within a week. With so many diffusers a large economy refill bottle would be nice :)

Answer by ChewyJan 19, 2018
At this time, this refill is only available in a 48 milliliters bottle.

Does it matter if the outlet is higher up on the wall or does it have to be closer to the floor?

Answer by ChewyMay 15, 2018
Plug diffuser unit into the room where the cat spends the most time. Avoid plugging in the diffuser under shelves, behind doors, behind curtains, behind furniture. Doing this will impair diffusion.

My 4 yr old girl had been an only fuzzy her whole life and even though she was curious when her younger housemate came along, she was not ready to accept him. We did all the things to slowly introduce them but once he had run of the house, his youthful exuberance took over and there was nothing we could do to get him to stop chasing her. Sometimes it turned into a little playful chase but most of the time it wasn't. Got to the point where she wouldn't come down from high perch's and it was just a constant hiss if he came near here. Enter Feliway, and the calmness was restored. I'm not saying it made her want to be best friends with him, but it definitely made her less agitated and on guard. It has also calmed down the young guy. I have been using it for about 9 months now and they can be within a 1 foot distance from each other without her being scared. And it has made the old girl act a little young and playful now. I have two diffusers in the house. One in the master suite and one that is centrally located in the dining/living/kitchen area where we spend most of our time. I have them in low wall outlets at their level and they have brought peace to our household. To avoid any of the horror stories people have posted about oily spills and fires.....Stay vigilant about keeping the diffuser guard upright to avoid any spillage and keep the diffuser clean (I use a Qtip to get in between the guard cover lines) and clean them each time you put in a new vial. I used them full strength for the first few months and have since put them on smart switches so they turn off during their day and night time sleeping hours. This has made the plug-ins last twice as long and well worth the expense. This is not recommended by the manufacturer but, hey, we like to live on the wild side....lol...and it can't be any worse than any of the other lamps and devices we have plugged into smart plugs. Good luck with your journey to the peaceful side.

A solution to spraying cat

This product has worked for me and my cats and I have been using it for months. I have three cats and one that sprays. I don't know which one unfortunately and have even installed cameras to try and identify the culprit to no avail. I have these dispensers in every room of the house where the cat was spraying. In larger rooms, I place two dispensers. I have gone months without a cat spraying. When I have discovered new cat spray it is either in a space without the dispenser ( the bathroom) or in a room where a dispenser has dried out. This is not an inexpensive product and wish that I didn't need it, I really do, but the alternative is to figure out which cat has the spraying behavior and get rid of him. Who would want to adopt a cat with spraying behavior? No one and I really worried I would have to put him to sleep. I'm willing to pay to keep my cat alive and to keep myself from going crazy. Make sure to totally clean any area with an enzyme odor blocker then install this product near the spray area. Of course, make sure that any other possible stressors, which could be causing the behavior, have been resolved as well. I hope it works for your cat as well as it has for mine.

I recently had to retrieve 2 foster kitties from an eviction situation and since I have multiple cats and these 2 were particularly stressed I decided to renew my relationship with Feliway and although it wasn’t an immediate change within several days I could definitely see a huge change in the 2 fosters. Fingers crossed their cat daddy will find a new place and be able to keep it so they can go back to their home they’re missing.

My boy, Leonardo, is big and overbearing, and my little girl, PB, has gotten really tired of him. They have stand-offs over territory, usually in the middle of the night. It's nerve-wracking. I tried this in two dispensers at opposite ends of the house, and found that hostilities eased considerably. To be honest, I wasn't positive that the Feliway was responsible; we've had truces before. But for me the confirmation of its effectiveness came a few weeks ago when the Housemate and I had out-of-town guests. They stayed in her apartment and she was very worried about one of her cats who is neurotic and prone to pooping in random spots. He's actually on Prozac which has helped a great deal, though not stopped him from leaving gifts. The week of Independence Day was a minefield. She was really worried about how he'd react to an apartment full of people coming on the heels of all that noise. I loaned her one of my dispensers, and Buckaroo not only didn't poop on the floor while the guests were there, he was sociable! And since then? No little surprises. Whether this will last, is anyone's guess, but the only change she made was installing the Feliway multi-cat dispenser. To be completely honest, I find this stuff to be more expensive than I like, and can't really afford to keep the dispenser filled all the time. But I buy it when I can because it does seem to make things pleasanter around here. If you have issues, I'd say give it a try. It may help. It can't hurt.

I first purchased this when I got a new kitten. My other two cats were NOT happy with this "invader" in their house. Though it's not uncommon to have a transition period, it was pretty bad at first. The plug in, time, and some patience proofed successful. However, my second reason to try this product was because my 4 year old male has extreme anxiety. His skittishness was so bad, I couldn't wear shoes in the house without him running for cover. I've been using it 4 months now and he's like a different cat. Doesn't run when the front door opens, sleeps on the couch next to me, lets me walk by him without running, comes up to me for love and attention without coaxing. And to reinforce the fact that it's Feliway, he started acting more skittish a few weeks back and I realized the plug-in was empty. After replacing it, he was again his new, relaxed self. Just wish I'd started using it when he was younger. LOVE IT! Thank you Feliway!

I brought my male cat, Ragnar, to the vet, losing weight and acting unusually with his twin sister, Freja. They would often spat, and Rags would ALWAYS be the "victor", but suddenly, Freja was beating HIM up! He just didn't seem himself. After bloodwork and an exam was done, the vet couldn't find anything physically wrong with him, and said he probably had "psychological issues"! (A CAT? Who'd a thunk it? Where's Jackson Galaxy when you need him? Lol!) The vet recommended Feliway and said he thought it might help. I shopped several sites, and found Chewy to be reasonable, and easy to navigate, so I placed the order here. It came REALLY fast, which was a good thing because Ragnar wasn't eating well and the fighting was out of control! The diffuser is easy to use. You basically just screw on the refill and plug it in. Within one day I noticed a difference in their behavior! I ordered it the second time and the shipping was even faster. Ragnar has been eating well again, and HE is once more the aggressor! They seem to be back to normal, and there is no other explanation but the Feliway. I will keep using this product as long as they respond this well to it! Saves "Mom" from having a nervous breakdown and a lot of vet bills! I recommend it highly, and I recommend Chewy even more! The photo below says it all.

I adopted an older cat who was very anxious and skittish (grey one in pictures). A few months later, I adopted a kitten, hoping to encourage play and make him more comfortable. He started becoming more anxious (we lived in a noisy apartment too) and peeing outside the box. He was hissing and swatting at the new kitten. I plugged this in and a few days later, he seemed more tolerant of her presence. Fast forward to almost a year later: I have two plug-ins in my new two bedroom apartment and he’s been hiding under the bed less! That’s still his go-to place when I grab the vacuum or something startles him, but he hangs out on the couch and in the cat tree by the sliding door (watching the dogs and people walk by) more than ever. He even plays with his sister at night and sometimes during the day. He still has his grumpy moments when he doesn’t want to play with her, and she pushes his buttons, but overall he’s been so much better!!

My cat Jack was a feral 4 week old kitten when he was rescued from the streets. I adopted him at 10 weeks. He has always been timid and shy but became more so when we adopted a 2nd rescue cat. He would jump and hide if you walked into the room. He was also starting to pee on my bathroom rug and the mats in front of the litter boxes which was becoming an issue with me as I am a 'dog person' and couldn't tolerate cat pee. We tried this along with Bach's rescue remedy flower essence as well as changing to Frisco litter and I am happy to say no more peeing anywhere (knock on wood) except in the boxes and he actually comes into the room where the family is at now to hang out with us. I can pet him and hold him for short amounts of time and some nights he even sleeps in bed with us. When company comes I give them treats to tempt him and he does come to investigate but keeps his distance. I do not give Bach's every day..only occasionally so maybe someday I won't need the Feliway but for now the $10 a month is worth it to me.

My cats mostly get along, but the two year old boy sometimes gets to be a bit much for my senior girl, causing obvious stress in their relationship. I can tell when the feliway runs out because there seems to be more tension between the two of them. With feliway, there’s peace in the house and all three cats are happy together.

I have been using these over the past year to help my two cats adjust to being together. They are expensive and don’t cover a lot of square footage so you need multiple for them to be effective. I have continued using them because they have helped my cats get along without constant fighting hence two stars. A few weeks ago I noticed an abnormal smell and found that one of them was leaking into the outlet it was plugged into nearly causing a house fire. Due to this safety concern I’ll no longer be using these and I am tossing the product. After doing some googling I found that many people have had similar experiences. There is also a tiny print warning on the box that says that the product is fatal if ingested. It makes me uncomfortable having something toxic at eye level with a young cat that gets into and touches everything. Obviously it hasn’t killed her yet but that doesn’t mean it won’t if she decides to touch the diffuser. The warning should really be larger and they should warn of potential safety hazards since this seems to be a reoccurring problem with the product. I’ll try the pheromone spray over this and hope for the best. It’s better than burning down my house or harming my pets.
