Questions & Answers

Can this be added to a wet feed, or does it have to fed dry?

Answer by JayyAug 15, 2025
No! Psyllium should be fed dry because it becomes sludge-like when wet - that's the way it helps pull the sand out. Wet psyllium is a choke risk.

Can this be used with miniature horses 200-400 lb range ?

How many servings per package?

Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2020
One scoop of this supplement is equal to approximately 5 ounces. For average size (1,000 lb.) adult horse – give one scoop (5 oz.) to 1.5 scoops of Equi Aid Natural Psyllium Fiber for one full week (7 days) out of every month. Give less to ponies, yearlings and foals; more to larger horses and draft breeds. The 5 pound bucket has approximately 16 scoops. The 10 pound bucket has approximately 32 scoops. The 20 pound bucket has approximately 64 scoops.

Can this be used for dogs?

Answer by ChewyMay 19, 2020

Had what i thought was fecal water syndrome ended up being a micrombe imbalance in the gut, and after 30 days of this she was back to normal bowels. Because she is 32 i am keeping her on this product for the foreseeable future. It helps keeps her regular. I use lil less than 1/4 cup that comes in container, once daily with her essential K at breakfast. My vet recommended and approved this product and its use.

the horses like this stuff and it helps keep them free of sand, I was feeding daily but my Vet told me to only do one week each month, Sooo now my horses each have a "protocol" week. They are locked up for one week in a large stall where they can have their fiber, monthly wormer etc. They love this idea because we have one BOSSY (Maggy) mare out in the field and for one week they can snub their nose at her and do whatever and stand wherever they please and she has no say! Maggy is the only one offended by protocol week ha ha she tells them all how she is going to treat them when she gets out of lock up. Sooo then we have exercise day, Maggie gets out of lockup and she gives everyone a good workout. Maggie is a OLD retired racehorse and she can still run with the best of them, the others are from barrel racing stock so they have the moves to outmaneuver her It is quite a show.

My poor gal was struggling with fecal water syndrome, which she never had prior to moving to the midwest. I’m on day 5 of using the psyllium pellets, and I’ve already noticed a huge improvement! My fingers are crossed that this will continue to help.

Works really well

Purchased this product, as the usual product was out of stock. Very helpful for sandy, dry, dusty, frozen pasture with hay being fed on ground; where horses consume

Purchased this product, as the usual product was out of stock. Very helpful for sandy, dry, dusty, frozen pasture with hay being fed on ground; where horses consume dirt. The pickiest horse readily consumes these pellets in his feed.

My horse likes it

My family has used Sandclear for many, many years. Most of our horses ate it, some would get finicky and only eat some of their portion or skip it all together

My family has used Sandclear for many, many years. Most of our horses ate it, some would get finicky and only eat some of their portion or skip it all together. I happened to find this product on Chewy and as it was a few bucks cheaper decided to try it. Both our horses eat it better than Sandclear.

It actually worked.

My vet, looking at one of my horses' manure, said "Sand". So I tried a psyllium product and to my surprise, it helped. His manure firmed up again, going from glomp

My vet, looking at one of my horses' manure, said "Sand". So I tried a psyllium product and to my surprise, it helped. His manure firmed up again, going from glomp to proper manure. I do feed it for a week or so each month. Since I am in this for the long run, I did switch to another product that comes in a 50 lb tub.

Losing my 16 year old chihuahua was somewhat devastating as she "Bessie" was my shadow from day one. The memory rock with her name on it took me by surprise and made a wonderful treasure to remember her by as I've put it in my kitchen window and see it every day. Much better than flowers, that die, thank you for caring. Now it's just the felines and her brother Buster and the new addition Sunshine, but we all miss Bessie.
