Can these reproduce for farming?

Answer by ChewyApr 29, 2021
These meal worms can be bred and raised. You can start with as few as 150 live mealworms, but it is recommended starting off with at least 500.

what do I feed them

Answer by ChewyAug 27, 2021
Add about ½ cup of fresh (raw) vegetables to your mealworm storage container for feeding. Cut raw potatoes and raw carrots into 1 inch x 3 inches pieces and spread throughout the container for the mealworms. The mealworms may pull the food under the bedding to eat it, which is completely normal. Some moisture is necessary for the mealworms to drink. While the raw vegetables contain some moisture, it is best to add more by using Thirsty Cricket (gel water source). To gut load, mix Mealworm Chow in with the Mealworm Keeper at a 1:9 ratio (1/3 cup of Chow per 3 cups Keeper).

why did i receive babies?

Answer by ChewyOct 17, 2021
The duration of the life cycle will depend on the temperature the mealworms are stored. If all goes well, you should have mealworms to use as feeders within about 3 months. The mealworm will stay in the larvae stage for about 4-6 weeks. The duration of the pupa stage usually lasts around 1-3 weeks. Once the pupa turns into an adult beetle it will reproduce and lay eggs until the life cycle ends and the beetle dies. With this being stated, mealworms are constantly growing in size due to being in the larva stage. Colder temperatures will help to prolong the larva from turning into Pupa.

How long can they be stored?

Answer by ChewyAug 13, 2021
Upon arrival, transfer the worms from the bag to a breathable smooth-sided storage container and place in the refrigerator. Meal worms will last approximately 4 weeks refrigerated.

My expectations for this product was high and low at the same time. Confusing right? The price was lower than what I paid in the past here on chewy, so, great deal. The reviews however made me a litte weary. My meal warms were received; I had about a little under thirty that were dead, size was definitely NOT what I was used to, as I thought I was buying medium, these were a mixture of small and medium. Thus, good for my little guy, Jon Snow, but not cost effective when feeding adult dragons. Which means that I’ll be placing another order soon. In the bag, there were a lot of shed. So sifting through that was annoying and they don’t look as healthy, these actually look like they will not make it a good week before they die. Sadly, another waste of money.

I was reluctant to purchase these because of the reviews. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived, and all 500 appeared to be alive. I shook them out of the newspaper into a strainer. I had gotten a plastic container and put holes in the lids. I filled the bottom about 1 inch deep with oatmeal. And added some banana peels for moisture. I have several nest of bluebirds that love the live mealworms. They will not touch the dried ones. I have happy Blue birds this afternoon

Ordered 250 live meal worms, all were alive and look healthy however the way they were packaged was not desirable. Worms were placed in a small cloth bag with news paper inside. While attempting to get them into a container they got all over the counter top and inside a notebook. Not impressed with this. I've never received insects in the mail without an actual container before.

I am very happy! Our local pet stores have not been able to keep superworms in stock since COVID started. The ones you were able to get your hands on, most of them were dead. These ones came in a mesh bag and news paper, along with an ice pack to keep them cool and packing peanuts to keep them from bouncing around the box. I had a plastic shoe box I used to get them off the paper before dumping them into their bin. Every last one arrived alive!! I just ordered more so I know I have enough for a bit!!!

The mealworms arrived alive, for the most part, but I do think there are some things that need to be mentioned in terms of what you’re paying for and what you’re actually getting The bag they come in is terrible quality and I had several that had escaped from it and into the box they were shipped in - but once everyone was accounted for, to the best of my ability, I was able to take a closer look. I purchased the “Giant” size mealworms for my adult bearded dragon, expecting them to be a decent size and I was incredibly disappointed by the tiny little critters I had in my container. They are MAYBE medium sized, at best. These can easily be fed to a small gecko. I do understand that size, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder, but my poor beardie was probably secretly offended when I offered her what I anticipated would be a wonderful option for her. Let’s hope these guys are growers and not show-ers. O.o Another issue with this order was quantity. There is a ZERO percent chance that the bag (100) I ordered had the correct number in it. They were wrapped in a wad of paper and shoved in the bag, so even if I wanted to count them, by the time I got them transferred over, who knows how many were actually there. Have you ever tried to count these things? Maybe that’s why the numbers aren’t accurate. What a task! I also had several beetles in the bag (not the beetles that these guys turn into, either), as well. That isn’t a huge deal to me, I don’t suppose but maybe to someone, it is. I don’t know that I will be purchasing these again, but hopefully someone can use my review to make an informed decision when purchasing.

I have bought this item twice, just incase the first round was just a fluke. Both times the worms have arrived dead and dark brown. I let them sit out just in case if they are in shock and none of them start to move. This second one I bought has little black bugs in it, those are the only things alive.

So I have been order 1000 crocketa and mealworms every 2 weeks and my first order was fine delivered on time and early enough in the day that it was too hot. My second order? Now, that is a totally different story. So, it was originally scheduled for delivery yesterday, but was delayed until today, then the were supposed to bring the between 11 and 3. They were not delivered until 5:44 pm. And I didnt get a notification about delivery until over an hour later! Needless to say, every single mealworm was dead when I opened the package. They are supposed to issue s refund, but I have d yet to see it. So we will see

The worms are the largest size there is to order. They are time. Pet stores have much larger ones but I like getting everything from chewy. These are the least active worms I have ever purchased. My bearded dragon won’t eat them because they don’t move. Some in the bag were already dead and black. Most were alive but small and don’t move.

Buying In Bulk Better?

I got 1000 for my bearded dragons and geckos a good handful of the worms were dead had some cocoons as well which is not bad because the beetles with food can make more worms or be a tasty snack for your beaded dragon they love beetles and its satisfying to hear them crunch the main issue is are they fresh and fed? I can get these worms at a pet supermarket for $5.87 per 50 which is $58.7 for 500 if I buy them when I need them so if you're buying in bulk it should be a time saver and to make up for dead worms if its a common issue I would recommend them to add food with them like they do at my pet store to keep them alive and stay cool with the material so they don't heat up and die in shipments but overall good price I would be spending $117.4 for 1000 or more if I they only had 25 worm cups so this bulk is great for saving money that is if they are alive when you get them <3
