1. Get a friend to help you ad wash your hands before starting. If swabbing multiple pets, swab one at a time. Make sure the tube is labeled for each pet correctly. In each collection bag there is one tube with liquid and 2 swabs. To ensure a good DNA sample is collected, the pet should be swabbed twice, once with each swab. Both swabs will be stored together in the one tube with liquid. 2. Remove the sterile swab from the protective packaging. Be very careful ot to let anything touch the tip of the swab 3. Insert the tip of the swab between your pet's cheek and gum. Press gently to the inside of the cheek, rub and roll against the cheek, while also collecting saliva for 30 seconds. Assistance holding your pet is encouraged 4. Holding the swab at the notch, snap the excess stick off the swab. Unscrew lid to tube. Tube contains stabilizing liquid, do not spill. 5. Place the swab with the excess stick removed into the tube. Repeat steps 2-5. It is advised that you close the tube between swabs to avoid spilling the liquid in the tube. 6. Screw cap on tightly to prevent liquid sample from leaking during transport. Shake tube lightly to ensure swabs are covered in liquid. 7. Label the tube with your pet's name using a send. Put the tube back in the plastic bag. 8. Fill out the sample information form 9. Send swab back using original box and provided return label.
