About This Item

Details

  • Using a genotyping platform developed in partnership with Cornell University of Veterinary Medicine, Embark tests for over 400 dog breeds including dingoes, coyotes, wolves, and village dogs.
  • Use Embark’s canine relative finder to find and connect with your dog’s family—you may find a close relative like a cousin or even discover a direct family member!
  • Helps identify your pup’s family tree and reveal his breed makeup all the way back to his great-grandparents.
  • Learn where your furbaby's ancestors lived and migrated, tracing the paths they traveled around the globe en route to your home.
  • Results are delivered in about 2–4 weeks—Embark kits are best used by the date printed directly on the swab to ensure DNA extraction goes smoothly.

How well does this work to breakdown mixed breeds with no purebred relatives? Does it break down into actual breeds or just type? What percentage of DNA for a specific breed does a dog need for it to register?

This DNA test kit is able to trace back 3 generations. Please click on the attached photo for a visual reference of test examples. To locate all current breeds that may be identified, please visit the manufacturer site at https://embarkvet.com/resources/dog-breeds/

Is this a one time fee or do you have to send payment also when you send the test in?

Answer by ChewyMar 18, 2020
Once you purchase the kit, simply swab the inside of your dog's mouth, activate your kit, and send the sample in a prepaid envelope to the company's lab.

I have a wolf hybrid that I believe is at least 50% wolf, will this test be able to tell me what else he has and how much wolf?

Can this test help with figuring out skin conditions your dog has?

Answer by ChewyDec 23, 2020
While Embark can detect over 190 genetic variants associated with increased disease risk, they cannot provide medical diagnoses. You should talk to your vet if you are worried about specific medical conditions in your dog.
