I've been using Horse Stall Pellets or 'pine pellets' for my rabbit's litter box for years now. I believed it to be the best option, given it wasn't dusty, it was cheap and it retained liquid. However, I was incredibly surprised to see how well of an alternative this hemp bedding was. Despite being a flaky bedding, it was also dust free, and also incredibly absorbent. It also appears to be generally cleaner than the pellets. When the pellets absorb liquid, they break down into a sandy/grain texture, this retains its texture but also the liquids as well, making it much easier to clean out. I also noticed how much better it was at keeping smells down. There was virtually no smell from my rabbit litter box while using this bedding, which is a huge plus because his free roam area is within my bedroom. The best part is also just how much lighter this bedding is. It's so much more convenient than hauling 40lb pellet bags up two flights of stairs.

Before requesting this product via the Pawsibilities Program, I did look up to double check that this was safe for guinea pigs as my two are literal toddlers when it comes to how they interact with things in their cage. I traditionally use paper bedding with pellets on the bottom of their litter box to help with absorption. I have changed their litter twice with this product at the time of writing this and I am glad to say that this is a good product for guinea pigs. They were a little reluctant to go into their litter box at first due to different surface touch. However, I found it softer than some of the paper bedding I have gotten over the past 3 years of having them. Unfortunately, I am predominantly nose-blind to guinea pig bedding odor unless changing the bedding, so my opinion on odor is unreliable. On the other hand, I do find that this product is easier to clean out and replace in a litter box. Paper bedding tends to clump together once waste is excreted in it for several days and can lead to a mess while scooping out in my experience and this product did not really do that. The only downside to this product is that it costs more than paper bedding with dependent factors, however, if you are looking for a product that leads to less mess/hassle to clean up, this is it.

I never want to try another bedding again. This is the bedding of my dreams! I love that’s eco friendly. A little goes a long way. My bunnies have had problems eating bedding in the past, but that’s not the case with this bedding. There’s no smell after they use this bedding for a few days. My bunnies are free roam, and I use this bedding in their litter box. Even the packaging is eco-friendly as it’s paper packaging instead of plastic. It makes me feel really good about giving my bunnies a litter box to use. I was worried about it not being soft enough for them, but they love it, and it is surprisingly soft once it’s in the box. One of my bunnies has a sore hock, and this doesn’t exacerbate it at all. The only thing I would say is that you can’t really just reach your hand inside and grab some out because the small pieces can give you splinters.

This product does a fantastic job at minimizing the urine smell and is easy to clean/change day. It also isn't any messier than the bedding typically found in stores. I wish it did a better job at absorbing urine. However, my girlies love to urinate in the exact same spots, so there is only so much it can do. With gloves and daily cleaning, it's manageable.

Fantastic fresh bedding!

So we’ve been on the search for the right bedding for our exotics, if you’ve ever had a squirrel or possum you know how much they STINK, I absolutely love this stuff!

So we’ve been on the search for the right bedding for our exotics, if you’ve ever had a squirrel or possum you know how much they STINK, I absolutely love this stuff! The only downside is sometimes they play in it and with it being so light sometimes it comes out of the litter pan and gets a bit messy but honestly it’s worth it because there is NO STINK anymore!!! Will continue to buy and it’s so so light I love that it’s so easy to lift

I think I got a contaminated bag

I’ve been using this product for months. It was the perfect amount to cover our coop for our backyard flock. I’ve been really happy with it until this last week. I purchased this, as well as sweet pdz and some nesting herbs, and after scooping/sifting the waste out, I added the sweet pdz, then the hemp, followed by the nesting herbs. I thought we were doing a good job of being proactive in preventing mites but 2 days later we saw tiny bugs climbing out of the nesting boxes, and coop doors. Prior to this coop refresh, I had use First Saturday Lime and food grade Diatomaceous earth around the coop and mixed it in with the bedding so I haven’t found anything IN the coop and that is likely because of all of the DE which is causing them to make a run for it but it has been so distressing for me. I haven’t seen any on my chickens, but as we are new to this, I’m not sure if it would be obvious this early on. I still love the product, but I’m not sure I’ll be getting it again. Maybe the nesting herbs or Sweet PDZ could’ve been contaminated but being that they are both supposed to be preventatives, I don’t think that is the case. Still a great deal and the hemp itself is nice and soft, and great for people whom use a scooper because the pieces are small enough to fit through the slots.

I prefer this product over the HEMPALTA hemp bedding. This one has a more consistent texture and its pieces look similar to wood shavings (the Hempalta has some weird pieces that are more stringy/fluffy kind of like cotton). I think this one is a little better value per weight as well. Pros: Not dusty! Especially compared to wood shavings. I have rats, so non-dusty bedding is important. It absorbs urine very well and is not smelly. I used to use fabric beddings, and this lasts way longer before needing to be changed. I use a thick 2-4 inch layer for my rat cage. The only cons I can think of are that I don't like when pieces fall on the carpet, and that it technically has a tiny bit of dust, but it's less than the amount in beddings that claim to be 99% dust free.
