Questions & Answers

Are the blue bags also opaque like the green bags? And is the scent flowery or does it lean more to the peach side of the combo smell?

Are the bags numbered to show how many are left in the roll

Answer by ChewyMay 30, 2023
These refill rolls feature a sticker to advise when there are just 3 bags left. Please see the provided photo for an example of how this looks.

What is added to make it lavender-scented? essential oil, chemicals, something else?

Answer by ChewyJan 21, 2021
62% of the lavender scent is naturally sourced from essential oils derived from fruits, plants and spices. The remaining 38% is a binding agent that helps the scent adhere to the bags. The lavender scent accounts for 1% of the total make-up of these bags.

Are they biodegradable?

Answer by ChewyNov 26, 2024
The manufacturer has stated the following about this product "Our bags aren't biodegradable. When we developed our first bags, we included an additive that was designed to help the bag break down more efficiently and quickly in the right conditions. Today, we know that bags like ours are typically disposed of in the trash and end up in landfills, where the conditions needed for a bag to break down may not exist. As a certified B Corporation, we're committed to combining innovation with responsibility when updating our products. We've now shifted our focus from what we can’t control (where our bags end up) to what we can control (the materials we use). Our new generation of bags are made from 65% certified post-consumer recycled plastic which allows us to give a second life to more than 5 million pounds (2.2 million kg) of landfill-bound plastic per year. We've also reduced our bags’ carbon footprint by approximately 22% as compared to our previous generation. "

We like to be eco-minded in our household, looking for any easy ways to be conscious about waste and the major plastics problem our society contributes to. We like that these bags are more eco-friendly, the carton is cardboard (recyclable/decomposable), and they come with cardboard rolls instead of plastic (recyclable/decomposable). Bonus is the sticker that holds the rolls together is easy to remove to open bags! Not sure if the sticker is also eco-friendly, but that would be a bonus if it were. NOTE: The picture was taken to share with my spouse that our dog had a good poo after a series of nasty dumps. Just so happens that I am being asked for a review of poo bags and this picture was available. I am not a weirdo who uses a poo bag review as a reason to take a picture smiling with a bag of feces dangling in front of his face, but I guess you can decide.

Love everything about these bags

Bela was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism earlier this year. I chose for him to go through Radioiodine Therapy, which meant I had to be cautious not to come in contact with his waste for 10 days after being discharged from the hospital. The Radiation levels lowered rapidly during the first two days and took a slow slide down the curve back to normal values. There was a protocol to bag and store his urine and feces in bags, then place those bags inside a 5-gallon bucket lined with two heavy garbage bags. After 10 days, all leftover litter, gloves, and masks I wore were to be stored in the same manner. Disposable potty pads were used on the floor and hallway to catch all excess litter as he walked away from his box. Everything was bagged into 5-gallon buckets, labeled with radiation stickers, and stored away from high-traffic areas, outside for 80 days. At that point, whatever was to be discarded could be put into the regular trash bins and taken to the local landfill. After opening the same waste bucket repeatedly for 10 days, it wasn't smelling bad at all. These bags opened & tied easily, never tore, and had a reminder sticker saying, "Only 3 bags left to the end of the roll". Even the box the bags came in was recyclable. I purchased the Lavender bags, liked the scent, and Bela didn't want to eat them. He was a stray for an unknown period of time before I rescued him, 3 years ago. He still has some weird quirks, but that's ok, we live in Portland, OR. This town rallies to "Keep Portland Weird". We do our best to follow the notion of not taking ourselves too seriously.

I normally buy the "pantry pack" box from Earth Rated as it's easy to store in my entryway and quickly grab a bag on our way out the door. Recently I was making up a "rescue puppy gift basket" for a friend and added this smaller box of refill bags to my order - she is a new dog mom and I wanted her to start off on the right foot! These are the same quality as the pantry pack and even though the rolls are very tiny and tightly-rolled, it's super easy to peel off a bag, tear at the perforation, and be on your way. I've never once, in two years, had one of these bags fail, tear, or have a hole. Even when my Lab insists on squatting over a pile of twigs to poop (it's like a game for him), I can easily grab his poop with a handful of small twigs/sticks and they have not punctured the bag. We do buy the scented bags because on longer walks, I find that the lavender fragrance is a nice barrier to the smell. Also appreciate this company's use of recycled packaging and that, unlike traditional plastic bags, the bags are made of material with EPI that helps them to break down more easily in the environment. I highly recommend Earth Rated bags and even if other bags are cheaper, I stick with these.

I would say that what these bags lack in handles they make up for by being biodegradable and very thick at the same time. It's a lot less disgusting to pick up after the dogs with these than with any other bags I've used. They've never failed me and left me messy, even when the dogs choose brush to potty into. Big bonus points for the perforated sticker that holds the new bags in place. LOVE that I don't have to struggle to get the roll started. Also major props for the little sticker on the 3rd to last bag that alerts you "3 bags left" so you don't find yourself lacking. Great product

It took me ages to find the BEST DOG POOP BAGS -- but I found them. Earth Rated Dog Poop Bags are fabulous because you don't have to turn them around a few times to see where the top is that opens. You can see it clearly as it looks different from the bottom. And, most fantastic is that you can open them darn thing easily -- no slipping back and forth or putting saliva on fingers to try to slide it open -- it just opens -- I will never buy another brand.

I use these bags with my husky on his walks and I love them! He can have some big poops and these can usually fit each poop in one bag. They fit perfectly in the same brand bag holder that I have attached to his leash and it's super easy to swap out an empty roll for a new one. The scent is very subtle and I don't even notice it. It doesn't seem to mask the poop smell, so I don't think I have a preference between scented and non-scented. I'll definitely be sticking with this brand since they also care about the environment!

Large, strong and odor resistant that we like using over all the others we tried. Great for when we walk the trail with limited waste bins. We end up carrying the bag back to the bins. This could be 30 plus minutes of holding a full bag. Others failed. Earth Rated came through.

I own a dog walking company and help run a local dog park and we only use these bags. They are truly biodegradable (others that feel like plastic are NOT biodegradable even tho they claim to be). These bags have a softer texture and have been tested to actually disintegrate. But dont worry -- these are strong enough to use and not break or tear easily. Do your part to help the environment while out with your dogs. I give this product 5 stars!

I feel silly writing a review for poop bags... but these are great! The bags are thick so the material doesnt stretch/rip. Somehow the plastic doesnt stick together so it is easier to pull apart to open. And there are stickers indicating when you are getting near the end of the roll, which is a very thoughtful design and helps make sure you don't end up outside without a bag. I will definitely. order again

I love that they have stickers warning you that you only have three bags left because everyone knows that Oscar the pug will often need several bags depending on how many areas he feels he needs to marks as his and Princess Zelda has needed to use them a handful of times, although she prefers her bathroom in the yard. They don't rip unlike a lot of the cheaper bags that I've tried to use.
