I have lost the plug in for the power stick. Can I buy a replacement?

Answer by ChewyJan 26, 2018
The Droll Yankees Yankee Flipper Powerstick Replacement can be purchased separately.

I can't get my power stick to come loose. What am I doing wrong? How do I get it out to charge?

Answer by ChewyMar 12, 2018
Charging: Follow steps; Disassemble #1 and #2, and Assemble #5 1. Check the black activation switch, which is located on the base assembly, is in the “OFF” position. 2. Disengage the base of the feeder by first placing the base in the palm of your right hand with the black activation switch facing you, while firmly holding the lower section of the tube with your left hand. Insert fingers upward through perch ring spokes and grasp the base assembly (like a small ball) firmly with your fingers, placing your thumb against the right side of the black activation switch for leverage, and twist counter clockwise (viewed from the bottom) approximately ½”. You will feel a distinct click and then lower the base which will separate from beneath the port. 5. Remove the bail rod by laying the tube on a flat surface with the bail rod parallel to the table/floor. Apply pressure to the top of the tube until it becomes oval/oblong in shape to free one side of the bail rod. Reach inside the tube and shimmy the other end of the bail rod out of its hole.

Will the spinner be activated for something the weight of a chipmunk? In other words, will pesky animals lighter than squirrels also be spun off?

Answer by ChewyJul 28, 2020
Chipmunks weigh less than squirrels, and since the Yankee Flipper is designed to thwart squirrels, sometimes the not-as-heavy chipmunks can access the feeder without activating the perch ring flipping feature.

I understand how the spinner at the bottom of the feeder works to repel squirrels, but can't they climb on from the top and get at the seed?

Answer by ChewyMay 21, 2018
This feeder immediately spins when a squirrel lands on the perch to gently throw the intruder off. The feeder is too long and slippery for squirrels to climb to get to the seed ports.

I have fed outside wild birds all my life, and I went through 15 or 20 bird feeders that are supposed to be squirrel proof,*weight activated, *all the ones that are supposed to be .The squirrels seem to always have The Knack of balancing and pushing down on the guards and finding out the best way to get to the seed, and I had a problem with like 15 squirrels and I was going to Too Much seed and I came across this feeder and study the schematics and the feeder is wonderful and funny, it doesn't hurt to squirrels , the squirrels get to eat what the birds drop on the ground & everybody is satisfied and it makes feeding the outdoor Birds more affordable. I recommend it highly and it's worth the investment. The charge on the battery last for a month or longer , before you have to recharge it, and it's well built and high and made out of high-quality materials.

We have been purchasing our dog food from chewy, on auto ship, for years...great service! We already had a Flipper that we have had for over 10 years. We had used the motorized ability of the feeder since relocating from NC to FL more than 7 years ago...we have nothing but palm trees on our property and had no squirrels until recently. We had the Flipper hanging on a multiple Sheppard's hook with 2 smaller feeders. The Flipper had not been charged since relocating and consequently did not "flip." When my wife texted me regarding our new found friend, I decided to look for a new Flipper...went to our reliable partner...chewy...and found the new Flipper we now own and ordered. While waiting for the new Flipper, my wife located the charger for the old one...which was amazing! We removed the motor/battery unit from the old Flipper and charged. Imagine our surprise when we realized everything still worked! We have now received our new Flipper and have both hanging. However, my wife has been extremely disappointed that our "friend" has not returned...she was really wanting to see him take a "ride" out into to garden area. This feeder works as described...is extremely well made. We would recommend both the feeder and chewy, if you are looking for a feeder.

Thrilled with Purchase

Too early to know it's effectiveness but I am surprised that the Yankee Flipper is much larger than I expected. This pleases me because I won't have to refill it

Too early to know it's effectiveness but I am surprised that the Yankee Flipper is much larger than I expected. This pleases me because I won't have to refill it as often as smaller feeders. It appears to be quite sturdy and the instructions are easy to follow. Lastly, I have been considering one of these for many months and was very happy to find it on Chewy at the best price I could find online. So I am thrilled with this purchase. I am also pleased with Chewy's customer service--when I notified them that my initial order never arrived, they sent out a replacement order which indeed DID arrive in the estimated 3 days!

Squirrel's or tree rats as I affectionally call them, love my bird seed, and sunflower seeds. This is the second Yankee Droll Flipper I own, use in two spots in the yard, and I use no other feeders, other than Hummingbird feeders. This is worth the money, squirrels hate it, and have yet to figure out how to overcome the defensive action. It's actually somewhat entertaining to watch the squirrels fly through the air as that get flipped. I have owned other "Squirrel Proof" feeders, but this is the best by far. Strongly recommend it.

I had heard from neighbors that this worked really well, and I was so excited to get it and hang it up. It worked as a squirrel deterrent for about two days, and then they developed a strategy to clean out my feeder again. What they discovered is that the spinning motion of the feeder shakes the birdseed out of the feeder quite rapidly. They jump onto the perch and hang on as long as they can as birdseed practically sprays out from the feeder. Once they’ve been shaken off, they scurry around like kids cleaning up after a piñata has burst. When the squirrels want more food, they simply grab on and go for another ride. This feeder might be a good purchase if you have dumb squirrels, but it won’t work if you have geniuses like we do.

I love this flipper! I was worried that the larger birds like the woodpecker and stellar jays would be too heavy - but they are just fine on it as the smaller birds are, and the squirrels are delightfully frustrated! I love the squirrels also, and didn't want to hurt them, but they are such piggies and destructive to my other feeders. I've had this up for a week now, and no damage to the feeder. Although the squirrel visits have become less frequent, they still try to get on it a few times each day. Note though, that the seed in the feeder spills out as the squirrel spins, offset by the weight.

I have had this feeder about 9 months. Worked well at first. Squirrels eventually found a way to jam their body between the feed hole and ring. I assume there is a clutch inside that now is worn. In any case this expensive feeder does not work anymore. Squirrels are extremely persistent and will eventually find a way to defeat most squirrel proof feeders. So I would not recommend investing in a complex/expensive one. I also own a Brohe Squirrel Solution 200. That one is much simpler and works well. You will need to modify the top as the squirrels found a way to pry it off. I also own a Squirrel Buster Suet feeder. It is a bit more pricey but is an excellent feeder.

Droll Yankees Flipper Motorized Feeder

I am 61 and finally got a great feeder with this!... I remember as a child growing up and watching our birdfeeders be frequented... I have used this for 2 weeks

I am 61 and finally got a great feeder with this!... I remember as a child growing up and watching our birdfeeders be frequented... I have used this for 2 weeks .. ordered it after my usual in-depth reviews others as well and am extremely happy and loving watching our Ohio birds feed.. Haven’t seen a squirrel get whirled yet but when I turned it on with my hand on the bottom boy did it take off.. so I think it will be successful to stop the squirrels..

I have used Droll Yankee Flippers for years and years, and they are absolutely the best. I love that all the ports are at the bottom so that food is accessible until the last seed is gone, and I love that it's large and can last for days (sometimes) until empty. What I have been begging Droll Yankees to do for years is make an exact replica WITHOUT the motorized flipper. It would be so much cheaper and I refuse to discriminate when it comes to food I leave out for wildlife. If I'm putting food out, anyone can come and eat it. I could never figure out why squirrels became the enemy. They're just trying to eat the food you put out.

I went through two other squirrel resistant feeders before I bought the 'flipper'. With the flipper, the squirrels lost interest after about 20 attempts to get bird food. I am 200% happy that this feeder does exactly what it says it does. I was spending $20 per month on bird food which basically fed the squirrels, now one 5 lb load in the flipper lasts about a month.
