My roommate purchased the DNAmydog test. I did everything according to the directions and about two to three weeks I was emailed the results. 87% French bulldog and 13% Staffordshire bull terrier. 100% NOT my dog. I emailed them. They are very nice and have great customer service but they have a small database. I attached a picture of my pup and shared the information given to me by the rescue. Brandy's mother was either a Schnauzer pug mix or border terrier mix. She doesn't have a coat that sheds. It's wirey but not waterproof. I have to brush her daily. So they told me they would do a more definitive test to identify all the different genes or something like that. Today I received the final results: 82% French bulldog,12% Staffordshire bull terrier, 3% mini poodle and 3% English cocker spaniel. This is not my dog. They give a very nice breakdown of each breed regarding behavior, training and management. So read carefully about the database size and also check with your vet. Cheap doesn't always mean the best. Cheap means less money the end.

We were very skeptical about how accurate these doggy DNA tests were having read so many reviews. We decided on this one. Once we got the test, we registered the kit as the directions stated for sample tracking purposes. Also directed by instructions were a few details about your dog. The questions did not seem leading, such as to possibly giving away too much information that may lead to “guessing” the breed of dog rather than truly sampling the DNA and finding out. Again, we were skeptical but were ok enough to take the chance on the kit, given the price. When answering the dog profile questions, we purposely did not upload a picture of our dog as again, being skeptical we were curious as to if the test was legitimate or just guessing. The test was easy to do and we sent the sample the very next day after receiving it. The only negative thing I would say at this point was that after about 3 weeks, I had not received confirmation that the sample we sent was received. The instructions and profile created, indicated that I would receive notification when our sample arrived. Since after about 3 weeks and not getting notice of being received, I emailed the company using the web page where we registered the product and let them know to date I have not received any notice. I was again skeptical at this time. To my surprise, the next morning I received a reply to my inquiry and they had stated that to date they had not received the sample as yet and to follow up in 3 days if I did not get confirmation by then. The reply from them at that time was that if they did not receive our sample by then that they would send us a new kit to start over again. At the end of 3 days I had not received any notice and decided that the next day I would follow up again. The very next morning I received confirmation that they received our sample. Awesome! We were excited they received the sample but then thought we would have to wait another 3 weeks or so to get the results and again wondered how legitimate they would be. Almost 1 week later we got notified that the results were available through the web page where we registered the kit. We were stunned at the results! The results showed our rescued puppy was genetically made up of 6 different dog types and they were listed by percentage of each breed discovered from the test. Of the 6 different dog types, 4 of the 6 were what we and all of our friends guessed she might be by looking at her! Since we did not submit a photo of our puppy and given these results, I am no longer skeptical and believe 100% that this product does what it says and with complete accuracy. I am also highly impressed by prompt customer support as well! We shared this info with several friends and many wanted to know what the kit was that we bought and where we bought it from because they are now curious about their own 4 footed best friends! Highly recommend this product!

Save your money for the following reasons: The questions they ask of you during the registration portion really had me feeling uneasy about my decision. Any optional question, I did not answer. It wanted to know many things, but among those questions was to list what dog breeds you thought your dog was. Why??? It required weight...why would this be necessary??? I did not upload a photo either. Next, I swabbed. It's more like a rough reusable straw cleaning brush and not a large Q-tip. You have to "swab" their cheek for TWENTY SECONDS. What dog is going to let you do this??? I did not need to "swab" this long, because I knew there was a good sample before switching sides as it caused his tissue to bleed. It's way to rough to be used for this purpose! Teddy is (now) a 25 lb, 2yr old baby. He is short, long body, short fur with tan plus a black saddle and a little white on his chest. He's a very sweet boy that rarely barks. When I say "rare" I mean he might bark a single "woof" the whole week. He's very laid back, but is game for outside play, walks, etc. He is SUPER submissive. He's the best little rescue dog I've ever had. All that to say, he's a good 10 lbs heavier than the breeds listed. He's also not high energy. He's not a barker at all like the smaller breeds can be. And don't even get me started on the fur differences!!! I can see the coat coloring being similar to the Yorkie, but so do beagles, and they have the boxy nose, too. Where did those ears come from??? They are curled or rosette in style like a greyhound...more likely the Italian grey for size. His long body and short legs, maybe the Lhasa Apso, but most people think he's a dachshund mix. Second guess is a Pit Bull Terrier. Needless to say, this was a 100% waste of money and time. I was not only curious about his breed, but wanted to research common health issues for him, too. My very best advice: Move on! Nothing accurate to see here! PS: I didn't buy this product from Chewy, but it is the same exact test and same box as the green box. I'm happy to share a photo if needed. Thank you!

Doobie came to us on a train from Texas 10 years ago. We were told he was German Shepherd & Bloodhound. We never questioned it until a woman came through my line at work a month ago with a pic of her dog, a Black Mouth Cur. He looked EXACTLY like my Doobie, so I got this test. Doobie is 19% Black Mouth Cur along with others, but no Bloodhound OR GS. The people at this place are AMAZING!! I made an error and forgot to register the kit. DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER THE KIT. It's number 1 in the instructions, but somehow I overlooked it. I had to call them to rectify my mistake and I thought I would get chewed out by Chewy, but I didn't! The woman was incredibly nice and walked me through everything. The results came 6 days after I talked to her. I had been waiting 3 weeks already, but because I didn't register it, they couldn't do their part on their end. Remember to register it, and very soon you'll know what your baby is. I'm still stunned that for 10 years I thought he was hound dog/shepherd. Whenever I told anyone about the hound dog, they would ask if he had the big floppy ears, to which I always had to say "no". That always bothered me for some reason.

I was excited to get the results back for my rescue boy. Animal Control had him as a German Shepard mix but I didn't believe that. Turned out he's mostly Golden Retriever with some Lab & Chow Chow. The only disappointment I had with the test was after the results they offer an additional charge it you want to know their approximate age. Of course, I wanted to know so I paid extra for it. Coming to find out they used the exact age I thought he was when I registered the test. I felt slighted with that portion but everything else was fabulous.

I have used other DNA kits that I think I prefer. This one just gives you percentages of breeds present in your dog. Others do that but also give you a visual for a “family tree”. Don’t think I will use this one again. I didn’t include a picture or my guesses. I think that’s cheating. Luann came back as a pretty even mixture of 5 small breeds. A precious scruffy mutt!!

I received the DNA My Dog test kit as a gift from my son for Christmas. I adopted my dog from a rescue. They said he was a Whippet/Dutch Shepherd. I understand their analysis may have been incomplete. Every time i uploaded a photo of my dog to google image search, it came back Dutch Shepherd. I figured we would do the test to see "for sure". The result came back with 31% Labrador Retriever, 25% Great Pyrenees, 15% Staff Bull Terrier, 15% Doberman Pinscher and 14% N.S. Duck Tolling Retriever. None of whose characteristics are present in my dog and none of whom explain most of the characteristics of my dog. They could have just sent me any random result and I would have no way to question it. They refused to send me a second test kit to confirm the result. He was fixed before I got him. I'm going to go-on telling people he's a Whippet/Dutch Shepherd because that's the only answer that makes any sense and why try to convince people he's a Labrador retriever? Save your money, upload your Dog's picture to Google Image Search and keep on with your lives. Don't waste your money on this garbage test.

Super easy and straight forward to use! Did take awhile for them to receive the sample- I think almost 12 days- I was worried it got lost in the mail! Seems fairly accurate it told us he’s border collie, Australian shepherd, Pitt bull, and lab! Love to finally have an answer now when people ask me!

I got this on sale for around 60 bucks or less. Mainly, I was just trying to determine a second breed line with my mixed black lab who is 100% black. The vet even commented that without a DNA test we couldn't tell for sure if he wasn't 100% lab or not. It really doesn't matter and I purchased this merely out of curiosity. Turns out my BFF is 20% each of five braids. Shocking as his behavior and looks lean towards lab except for a percentage of Staffordshire terrier. I never in a million years would have believed he had 20% basset hound in him because he's absolutely brilliant and by far one of the smartest little guys I've ever encountered. If you just want to satisfy your curiosity, by all means choose this DNA test as it will save you a few dollars you can spend on more treats.
