When I got back the results, it was obvious that the sample got mixed up at the lab. They had Lily as 4 large breed, double-coated dogs - in no way possible based on her size and body type. I asked them to send me a new kit, but they refused and said they would re-run the sample instead. It came back with 5 large breed, double-coated dogs! I bought a test from Embark Vet Clinic and it came back with a very detailed, and very accurate, breed identification for our 30lb, 31-inch, small boned dog. DNA My Dog obviously mixed our sample with a St. Bernard mix dog. Very disappointing.

Small database

My roommate purchased the DNAmydog test. I did everything according to the directions and about two to three weeks I was emailed the results. 87% French bulldog and 13% Staffordshire bull terrier. 100% NOT my dog. I emailed them. They are very nice and have great customer service but they have a small database. I attached a picture of my pup and shared the information given to me by the rescue. Brandy's mother was either a Schnauzer pug mix or border terrier mix. She doesn't have a coat that sheds. It's wirey but not waterproof. I have to brush her daily. So they told me they would do a more definitive test to identify all the different genes or something like that. Today I received the final results: 82% French bulldog,12% Staffordshire bull terrier, 3% mini poodle and 3% English cocker spaniel. This is not my dog. They give a very nice breakdown of each breed regarding behavior, training and management. So read carefully about the database size and also check with your vet. Cheap doesn't always mean the best. Cheap means less money the end.

If you've adopted your pet from a shelter or rescue, this DNA test is well worth the money. They labeled our dog at the shelter as a German Shepherd, which she definitely favored, but we also thought she might be Belgian Malinois. We got this test, swabbed her mouth per instruction, mailed it back and had her results in 2 weeks. She is 69% German Shepherd, 26% Belgian Malinois and 5% Siberian Husky. The results included very detailed information on behaviors and temperaments based on her breed mix. I absolutely recommend this product.

Save your money for the following reasons: The questions they ask of you during the registration portion really had me feeling uneasy about my decision. Any optional question, I did not answer. It wanted to know many things, but among those questions was to list what dog breeds you thought your dog was. Why??? It required weight...why would this be necessary??? I did not upload a photo either. Next, I swabbed. It's more like a rough reusable straw cleaning brush and not a large Q-tip. You have to "swab" their cheek for TWENTY SECONDS. What dog is going to let you do this??? I did not need to "swab" this long, because I knew there was a good sample before switching sides as it caused his tissue to bleed. It's way to rough to be used for this purpose! Teddy is (now) a 25 lb, 2yr old baby. He is short, long body, short fur with tan plus a black saddle and a little white on his chest. He's a very sweet boy that rarely barks. When I say "rare" I mean he might bark a single "woof" the whole week. He's very laid back, but is game for outside play, walks, etc. He is SUPER submissive. He's the best little rescue dog I've ever had. All that to say, he's a good 10 lbs heavier than the breeds listed. He's also not high energy. He's not a barker at all like the smaller breeds can be. And don't even get me started on the fur differences!!! I can see the coat coloring being similar to the Yorkie, but so do beagles, and they have the boxy nose, too. Where did those ears come from??? They are curled or rosette in style like a greyhound...more likely the Italian grey for size. His long body and short legs, maybe the Lhasa Apso, but most people think he's a dachshund mix. Second guess is a Pit Bull Terrier. Needless to say, this was a 100% waste of money and time. I was not only curious about his breed, but wanted to research common health issues for him, too. My very best advice: Move on! Nothing accurate to see here! PS: I didn't buy this product from Chewy, but it is the same exact test and same box as the green box. I'm happy to share a photo if needed. Thank you!

Way off

This test asked for a picture and many leading questions which we did not provide as we did not want a skewed test. It felt like we were visiting a crystal ball

This test asked for a picture and many leading questions which we did not provide as we did not want a skewed test. It felt like we were visiting a crystal ball tourist trap. Our puppy we do know is definitely a lab mix. The test came back as a pit bull/terrier/bloodhound mix. This is impossible. Don't waste your money.

Seems fairly accurate it told us he’s border collie, Australian shepherd, Pitt bull, and lab! Love to finally have an answer now when people ask me!
