Why did Chewy rebrand this product?

Answer by ChewySep 24, 2025
It’s always been Chewy made — now it’s Chewy named. For years, we’ve designed, developed, and cared for these recipes with the same love and expertise we bring to everything at Chewy. By putting our name on the bag, we’re making it even clearer that these are Chewy’s very own trusted products, built for life with pets. The only change Chewy is making is to the name and packaging. These foods will now carry the Chewy brand. You’ll notice a fresh look on the bag, but rest assured — the recipes, ingredients, and flavors your pet loves remain the same.

Does this have traces of chicken fat

Is this appropriate for puppies? We have a six month old with a sensitive tummy and you don’t have food specifically for puppies.

My 10 year old rescued golden has a tendency to gain weight regardless of daily exercises. She's been on wellness healthy weight for years and it keeps her weight in tact. What are the kcals in this new rebranded food? Thanks.

Thank you I have been struggling to get a food that is why it says the ingredients are. This got ride of his awful odor smell he was exuding from his allergies to everything under the sun. It helped regrow his hair back and he’s even got more energy!! No more licking his paws from hidden ingredients. Get this for your sensitive allergic to everything under the son dogs. You will not regret it. Only good I trust.

Copper is a Labrador Retriever and is not particularly fussy about what he eats. He is rather committed to his usual and always enjoyed “grazing” instead of eating on a schedule. He is also at the perfect weight for his size (70 #) and 7 years old (today !) As service dog we want him to have the best possible dog food. Like his breed and size would tell you he would joyfully eat almost anything put in the “Magic Bowl “… we use an automatic feeder 😀 We tried American Journey Limited Ingredient Salmon & Sweet Potato to see how he would respond and were surprised when he sniffed it and walked away. We put out a bowl of his usual food AND one of the American Journey. His own ‘blind taste test…’ and over the next few days he started eating more of the American Journey. After a week he was chew-zing the new food over his usual diet. Surprise! So we will finish the “usual meal” and then switch to American Journey. He works hard and deserves to get the what he likes. .

One my two GSDs has had buildup in her ears, itchy paws and skin. Previously on a chicken based food with corn products. While one of my dogs did just fine on that diet, my other suffered from lots of allergy related symptoms. I made the switch to this food and not only did her symptoms improve, but they have more regular bowel movements and healthy stool. I believe it is much better for their digestive tract. Every few months they would experience some sort of digestive upset and have diarrhea. Since switching they’ve had no digestive issues. One of the more noticeable changes was their desire to eat. They just cannot get enough of this food. They can barely contain themselves when I’m filling their bowls, and they scarf it down quickly. It’s one of the only foods I’ve tried that they seem to truly enjoy. Overall, it’s been well worth the extra price paid compared to their old diet. I would highly recommend trying this food if you are looking at limited ingredient options.

Java’s a rescued pound dog, bully breed/am-staff terrier mix so she was prone to skin and belly issues from the start. I haven’t had her a year yet. I’ve searched for a good 7months attempting to find a Limited Ingredient Grain Free dog food that didn’t give her immediate diarrhea. I found one at a local pet store, and paid out the wazoo for it. Finding American Journey for Java was a heaven sent especially because I’ve moved 2hrs away from my local pet store that carriers her old food. I’ve been mixing it with her old food because I just received the new food last week and there’s been no issues, even from day one. I will say she drinks a little more than normal, but she’s also crated all day while I’m at work (9-10hrs). Could be the saltiness from the Salmon and Sweet Potato recipe, which was the same recipe as her old food. This dog food has awesome ingredients that not only keep her coat shining and skin healthy, but helps her guts too. She’s become more routine with her bowel movements in the last couple of days. I couldn’t be happier. The price is awesome, close to $20 cheaper than her previous, and it gets sent right to my door whenever I need it! I will stick with American Journey, possibly trying out the other recipes in the future.

We adopted Dolly from the Humane Society and she came with a host of issues, including open wounds on her back from chewing. We immediately got her on apoquel and considered switching to a grain free food. When the vet ran out of her meds for two and a half weeks we freaked out and ordered this food to try and help. She regressed and opened wounds on her back and paws. This food hasn't completely quelled her itching, but combined with her meds her fur looks better than ever and she seems to itch less. It really has made a noticeable different, though nothing works magic except the right combination of meds and food. She only has one hot spot instead of six. Also, we can offer this food to her as treats, she really loves it!!! Thanks chewy for giving me an affordable option to make my pup feel a little more at ease.

We used this dog food for our dog, Ladybug, because she had so many food allergies. This was the only thing that she could eat because she is actually allergic to chicken, beef, corn, egg, and wheat. When we started her on this, it eliminated like 90% of Ladybug's itching, chewing and licking her paws. We finally figured out what her other food allergen was and it is Flaxseed. Unfortunately, we had to switch dog foods again. I still recommend American Journey Limited Ingredient Salmon and Sweet Potato and the other American Journey Limited Ingredient flavors any time and day of the week. If Ladybug wasn't allergic to Flaxseed, we have stayed with American Journey.

I am not leaving a 5-star review only because of the inconsistency between bags of food. Two of my giant breed dogs are allergic to poultry so all have been on a limited ingredient fish-based diet for years. Stinky beards and breath are just part of life around my house. I ordered this food because my regular brand was out of stock. Well, my dogs freaking love this kibble. The first bag had such a strong fish odor that it was overpowering. The next three bags did not. There were changes in color of the kibble from bag to bag. One bag had a hole in it. The packaging is not the standard waxed paper of most kibble bags. It may keep the food fresher from the elements than paper but does not seem as durable. All in all I am really happy with the quality of this food and grateful that my dogs love it. I will continue to buy it.

I’ve been battling allergies and runny poop since my 9 month old rottie boy was a pup. He was on taste of the wild and then wellness and no changes from one to the other multiple proteins from each and I even tried the Nutro for sensitive pups. One day I gave him boiled chicken and rice because he was not feeling well and we found out he’s allergic to chicken. I said screw it let’s find a limited ingredient salmon only food. Found this and it was much cheaper than the others with little confidence it would work. We are successfully one month out and after day one on the food no more belly issues. Normal poop and he feels great!! He sleeps normal and his behavior is a lot less restless.

I absolutely Love American Journey, and so does Duke. I initially tried the duck flavor and he didn't seem to care for it as much but loves the salmon. I prefer using a fish as my primary protein because it does help promote a healthy coat and fish oil has been known to lubricate the joints, and keep their mind bright. Dukes coat is super healthy, he has no upset stomach issues at all, he no longer gets sick in the mornings, and I don't even see him eating grass anymore. This combined with Nupro gets Duke compliments everywhere we go. When we went to the vet the other week she said oh look who just came from the groomer you look great. I'm like actually he hasn't been groomed in a couple weeks now, and she was amazed at how healthy his coat was.

My boxer has stomach sensitivity and is prone to ear infections, but this food seems to be working great for him. No allergic reactions or sensitivity noted so far. He does poop a lot more than he used to, but the stool looks healthy and intact (not runny, etc.). A consistent problem I have is receiving the kibble bags with small cuts/slits. Not sure if this is due to poor bag quality, but it's become too often. My dog likes the food, and I'm happy there are no ear infections. However, I'm not feeding him from an open bag, and although Chewy is great at remediating, this has become burdensome.
