How do I clean the pump for the catit water fountain?

Answer by ChewyDec 21, 2019
If the pump appears dirty, it's recommended to open the pump and remove the impeller cap and impeller. Next, remove any debris from the impeller, and clean impeller thoroughly with a cotton swab.

Regarding cleaning, are the fountain parts dishwasher safe?

Answer by ChewyFeb 22, 2019
This fountain is not dishwasher safe. You should wash and rinse the fountain with a soft sponge and a non-abrasive cleanser.

Is it okay to use an extension cord with this fountain?

Answer by ChewyJul 31, 2019
If an extension cord is necessary, ensure the connection is watertight and dust proof. A cord with a proper rating should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.

Is this sufficient for two cats or just one?

Answer by ChewyJan 31, 2019
This product is suitable for multiple cat homes.

After unknowingly knocking the water pump switch while cleaning, I came on here to troubleshoot why the pump was suddenly so weak. I've had this fountain for over a year and thought maybe the pump had run its course. A lot of reviews here mention a weak pump. After lots of reading and troubleshooting, turns out THERE IS A PUMP SWITCH to control the strength! Over a year and had no idea?! Also not mentioned in the manual (?). Picture attached to show other buyers just in case they find themselves here under the same circumstance as me. Love this product. My two cats refuse to drink still water and this has been a game changer! Working A+++ after over a year of nonstop use and monthly cleaning.

I first bought this almost a year ago and my cats love this. We recently lost power and they've completely forgotten how to drink out of a normal bowl because of this thing (a problem to work them out of) However after the last time I cleaned it, suddenly the water pressure was low and the fountain was only barely streaming. I tried everything I could think of and eventually bought another to replace it. Got the new one, set it up, it was doing the same thing! Tried different outlets, different filter, read the manual. Eventually with tinkering with it I discovered a small sliding switch on the motor that controls the water flow. This switch is NOT listed in the manual. Once I opened the valve both the new and old fountain were working fine again. Other than the lack of instruction on this one thing, the fountain is absolutely fantastic and great for the cats. Tl,dr: if the water pressure is low, check for a switch on the motor controlling water flow. (One picture is before the fix, one after!)

My boys, like most, love drinking from kitchen or bathroom faucets, since cats prefer water in motion. I learned awhile back that was the reason they drop toys in the water bowl, stick paw in or scoot bowl around. I tried an inexpensive, circulating water bowl a few months ago, the cats got used to it, but motor didn't last much over a month! Got my Flower Pet Fountain yesterday, Zach & Simon took to it immediately and they usually don't share well. Now my few issues..... Zach has removed the yellow center of flower several times. No idea why? Also, one of them scooted the whole thing about a foot or so from original position, during the night. Other than being mischievous, I don't know why? My main issue is the shortness of the cord to plug fountain in. Both of my cats LOVE chewing on cords, so I can not plug it into a low wall outlet. The circulating bowl I had before, had a much longer cord. I had to put a short power bar on my counter, so I could camouflage cord up the corner of my cabinet and just barely long enough to plug in. Hopefully, the manufacturer will make the cord longer and figure out how to make the fountain somewhat heavier, eventually.

Overall, this is a product I would recommend. While there are several parts to it, the fountain is easy to clean and maintain. We have had this fountain since Jan 2023 and, so far, it is doing exactly what we wanted it to do, and that is encouraging the kittens to drink more water. The attached photos with the kittens are from February 5, 2023. The kittens were three months old. Assembly: Setting up the fountain took no time at all. I made sure to wash everything prior to using it with warm water and Dawn dish soap. Prior to washing, I noticed that one of our fountains did have some scuff marks on it, however, they seem to be purely cosmetic marks and have not impeeded the functionality or durability of the fountain at this time. I did soak the provided filter in cold water for a few minutes before assembling the fountain, as I didn't want any loose particles in the water. I can't recall if the directions instructed this step or not, but it is something I would recommend. Use your best judgment! Getting Used To The Fountain: The kittens did not take to it overnight, but we never expected them to either. To get the kittens used to the fountain, we set a bowl of water next to the fountain so that they would have the option of drinking from the bowl OR from the fountain. Giving them something familiar meant it was safe, and offering them something different piqued their curiosity enough to try out the fountain from time to time. When we first got the fountain, I made it a point to feed them near the fountain as well so that they would become used to the sight and sounds of it. They weren't able to drink from it at that time because they couldn't reach the water, but we wanted to ease them into using it when they were big enough. When they did show interest, I would sit with them next to it and touch the fountain all over, even getting my fingers wet and letting them sniff my fingers after to see that they were wet with water. I wanted to make sure they understood that they couldn't be hurt by the fountain. Noise: This is a fountain, so it does make noise due to the flowing water and the motor. When my husband first heard it he thought we had a leaky faucet, so while it is not extremely loud, it is noticeable. Additionally, when I am sick or not feeling well I can be extremely sensitive to sounds, to the point of throwing up, however this fountain has not bothered me at all. Your mileage may vary with this, but I wanted to add this detail just in case anyone else had similar side effects. Cables: The only additional thing that we did was thread the cable through some PVC pipe. Cats being cats, they like cables, and I didn't want to run the risk of them chewing through the thin cable. It is a standard USB cable and the cord connects to the charging block. Adding the PVC is totally optional, but if you do choose to do this, know that it does add one additional step to the cleaning process since you have to either disassemble or carry the PVC pipe with you to the sink.

My cats are using the fountain now, and I am very pleased with that. They have stopped begging me to turn on a sink faucet for them. First off, they did not care for the trickle flow that comes from the flower and so ignored the fountain! But when I finally removed the flower, THEN they started using it. . Which is wonderful.... albeit, not as cute!! My concern: I think the water should flow over the entire smooth surface, but It only flows to the one side! NOTE: It is NOT because it isn't level. I can rotate the entire fountain and it still only flows on that one same side. I tried using less water and then I filled the container to the top level of the fill window and it makes no difference either way. However, If I push down on the top, then water WILL flow over the whole surface area , but when I let go of it, the water flow returns to only that one side again.. Is this normal?? If so, then okay, the cats don't seem to care. I just want to know.

I LOVE this fountain. My cats LOVE this fountain. It holds almost a full gallon of water, which is convenient. I clean it when the water is empty, about once every week or two. It does get kinda gross by the end, but we use it without the filter because we put an oral health water additive in, so not having the filter def makes a difference. And you have to really pull the motor apart and remove all the funk and fur when you clean it which is disgusting. But it's worked perfectly for 4 years and now the water pump's wire has lost full connection so I went on a replacent search, but ended up getting a replacement Catit Flower Fountain. It's super cute, heavy so they can't knock it over easily (it has happened though, ugh), and it saves us time from having to clean and refill. Both of my cats have urinary crystals and this fountain encourages them to drink more, which is really helpful to keep them healthy. Love it! It's a great value, great product!

I wanted a fountain because my girls like to wet their paws in their water (for some reason) and it creates dirty water that they don’t like to drink. So I end up changing their water 2-3 times a day. Not to mention they like to move their bowl around. This little fountain is big enough for them to not be able to move around and because the way the fountain is built them can’t dip their paws in the entire water, which is great! They still like to dip their paws in the little streams but it’s not as messy and it doesn’t ruin the entire rest of the water. It only took them an hour or two to come around it. My lynx point Siamese enjoys the streams of water but I removed the yellow part because my black baby prefers to drink from the bubbling water. It’s super awesome, I definitely can see them drinking more water than they used to which makes me feel good because I know they’re hydrated all the time. I definitely recommend it! It’s not noisy at all, and easy to clean. The only thing I would say is the instructions aren’t very clear. And at first when I plugged it in I couldn’t figure out why the water wasn’t coming up through the green part and the flower and turns out there’s this little switch on the pump that was preset to low. I switched it to high and it worked, but nowhere in the instructions did it say to turn it on high. Other than that, me and my husband love it since we no longer have to accidentally get our socks wet and have to refill their water bowl so often.

So my cats have been using this fountain for at least a year. They absolutely love it, but one of my cats likes to play with water and had to ruin it for everyone. A while ago she figured out how to pull the inserts out, which is annoying on it's own, but she has now taken to tipping the entire fountain over. My floor is soaked and I am a renter 🙃 I could velcro the fountain to the mat, but it still won't stop her from taking the thing apart everyday and still making a mess. My cats have downgraded to a water dish until further notice. Hoping to find another fountain that is more cat-proof. If you have a mischievous cat who likes to play with water, good luck! 🙂

The first time Apollo had a fountain it was the smaller daisy Catit. He loved it from the first day That was nearly 2 years ago and I knew the motor should be going at any time and wanted to be certain he had one. Today this one came! Yay! Set up was very easy. I love that this one is fixed in such a way that the lid fits snugly and doesn’t cramp the cord. It began to flow the second I plugged it in - there was no warm up time at all. Of course, Apollo was behind me watching and planning. As soon as I moved he began drinking. He loves when I clean and fill his fountain and always gives me kisses. I got lots of kisses! After drinking he went to the box to sit for awhile. Chewy, he wanted you to know that he was disappointed with the smaller box you sent earlier this month. He couldn’t fit in it. He is very appreciative of this box!

This is a pretty good fountain. It doesn’t have a ton of pressure, so the water doesn’t have quite as heavy of a flow as some of the other fountains we’ve tried. I’ve tried using more and less water in the tank, but the pump seems to not be affected by this. It’s quiet, which is nice. You can apparently take out the yellow part of the flower to change the type of flow, but it seemed like I was going to break it when I tried removing it, so I just left it attached. I would recommend this product, my cat seems to enjoy it!
