Important Information

Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your pet has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. It may take up to 30 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

what are the side effects of catego flea treatment

Answer by ChewyJun 25, 2019
Monitor your cat after application. Individual sensitivity, such as slight transitory redness, erythema, scratching, pruritus or other signs of discomfort at the site of application, may occur after using any pesticide product for cats. If signs of sensitivity occur, bathe your cat with mild soap or shampoo and rinse with large amounts of water. If signs of individual animal sensitivity occur and persist, contact your veterinarian. Gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting or diarrhea have also been reported. If these or other side effects occur, consult your veterinarian or call Catego at 1-800-999-0297. Have the product container or label with you when calling your veterinarian for advice.

Is this product alcohol based?

Answer by ChewyFeb 19, 2019
This treatment is not alcohol based. The active ingredients are 22% Dinotefuran, 8.92% Fipronil and 3.00% Pyriproxyfen. The other ingredients are 66.08%. The other ingredients are a proprietary formula that helps the solution dry on your cat's skin instead of turning into a greasy mess.

I have twelve cats and some are indie/outdoor some are fully outdoor and some fully indoor. Looking for a flea and tick medics that will work was very important especially for the full time outside cats (slowly trying to become inside/outside cats) I have tried frontline and other name brands. They dry white and make the cats uncomfortable. They try very hard to rub it off. I probably spent a week reading reviews on different flea and and tick medicines before I finally decided on this one. Now I’m so glad I bought this one. I put it on the cats and they didn’t even notice. It’s been about three weeks since I’ve put the first round on and they still don’t have ticks or fleas. And having 12 cats the cost was important to me. This on sale makes it a great deal. I’m almost tempted to buy more for next year because of the sale price and how well it has been working.

Catego actually got rid of the fleas on our cats. Well, mostly. I had tried all the popular brands but with no luck. We had a serious problem with the fleas and nothing worked. When our cats went to the vet to be spayed, they came home with these fleas. I think because the fleas came from a vet office they were resistant to the usual flea medicines. Catego took care of the problem! Within 2 months, we were mostly flea free. My only complaint is it seems to work for about 3 weeks, not a full month. We've not had any irritation or reaction to the medicine which is awesome.

Wow! Kittens lost all their fleas overnight!

This was great! We are fostering some feral mama cat babies and they had horrible flea problems - so many kittens, so many fleas! We washed and combed and washed and combed but the fleas were winning. Finally they got to be one and a half pounds so we could try a flea medication - we tried Catego and the fleas disappeared overnight! Plus none of the little ones seem to have suffered any ill effects - still loving playful bundles of energy waiting for new homes. The foster mom, who licks them all the time, just avoided the back of the neck in her ministrations and is doing just fine also.

Yes and No

Adopted a 1 year old cat from the city Shelter, and despite being treated for fleas, she still had some. Because there is another cat in the house, I didn't wait and after some research bought this. The older, long haired Cleo (omg it's like running your fingers through a dense, long, carpet), is fine, but the short hair, Sophie, not so much. Initial application DID help, but it didn't last a month, instead it was about 9 days before she was scratching far too much. I just used the last dose on her yesterday, and I'm hoping this does the trick. All-in-all, I can't recommend Catego unfortunately.

it works as well as the rest

I've used this off and on quite a few times, and it does the job, what I think people don't remember about these topical flea killers is that the fleas become immune to the ingredients in the meds, I alternate what I use every couple of months to keep the fleas from becoming immune to it. For years I used Advantage on my dogs and cats with no issues, but after so long it just didn't work, I talked to my vet about this and he said the fleas get immune to it so he suggested changing what I used every few months, it works, I just wish there was more to choose from instead of the same ingredients just a different brand. But Catego has worked every time I use it, and my cats don't have any reactions to it, just remember to switch to a different kind every so often.

I have seen several 1 star reviews and i have to say something .. 1. if your cat licks the meds it will get sick or even worse could die this is a pesticide its meant of external use only ... you sh ould apply to the back of the head where the head meets the neck and make sure you cats do not lick each other either 2. washing your cat will remove its natural oils from its skin and fur this product just like others frontline, revolution, advantage, etc use the oil to distribute throughout the cats fur and skin ... if you bathe your cat dry them off and then try to apply this or any other product it will not work properly.. you have to wait 2 weeks so your cat builds up its natural oils again before applying the medication (DO NOT APPLY A SECOND DOSE IF YOU DID THIS YOU WILL OVER MEDICATE YOUR CAT AND MAKE THEM SICK OR WORSE DEAD ! ) 3. This is a PESTICIDE it's a POISON you should not be letting your cat lick or giving it to them internally or putting it anywhere the cat can reach with its mouth ... you need to part the fur down to the skin (i had to cut down some fur on the back of the neck/head area on one of my cats because his fur is very thick there) the instructions even warn about "superficial application to the fur" 4. all flea meds will cause the fleas to go crazy before they die .. they will bite more and you will see your cat itch more after initial application.. fleas have very tiny brains and only know 3 things .. bite, reproduce, poop... so when you poison them their brains freak out and they go in to overdrive thinking that feeding more will stop them from dying 5. ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU USE A PRODUCT FOR CATS !!! DOG FLEA MEDS WILL POISON YOUR CAT AND KILL IT !!! DOG FLEA MEDS HAVE DIFFERENT INGREDIENTS WHICH ARE TOXIC TO CATS AND IT ABSORBS THROUGH THEIR SKIN !!!! ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU USE A PRODUCT MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR CATS ! WHEN IN DOUBT CALL YOUR VET ! applied 6 rubes to my 6 cats a little over 36 hours ago .. while one of my cats is licking his paws (as one review mentioned) he was doing that also before i applied the medication.. all my cats seem fine .. after application to them they did seem a bit tired and lay-around-ish but that could also be because they are not holding cats and while i applied the meds i also trimmed their claws and had to chase a few around to pick them up and hold them down to apply the meds ... so it was stressful for them (not cause of the meds just the whole experience) so far everything seems normal the cats are acting normal now and everything seems fine .. before application i was getting bit up on my legs (i have about 25 to 30 bad flea bites on my legs from them) the past 2 nights i have not received any new bites ... so i am assuming its working plastic packaging is a bit hard to open by hand .. but its no problem if you can use scissors (using a carpet knife like one reviewer said) is waaaaaay overkill its plastic .. just use scissors dingus ..

Initially this product is great. Once dispersed, within a few hours you will see improvements in scratching, etc. Its does kill the entire cycle of fleas, eggs, larva, and adults. However, it doesn’t even make it to the two week mark before my crew of six, which are indoor only, begin showing signs of flea resurgence. I’ve tried the product several times now in the hopes that there would be improvement once the cycle was broken. Comfortis is my preferred treatment, but finding it to buy by a single dose locally in the 60-120 lb. size, as I break it down for my six, has become difficult. If you live in a mild climate, and don’t have many issues with fleas, this product may suit your needs, but when you live down South in Hades arm pit, you will need a much more effective treatment.

I took in a stray kitten and since she would be an indoor/outdoor cat, I asked her vet about flea & tick prevention. She was so little I didn’t think there would be anything to use on her. The vet gave me Catego and I’ve been using it on her since. No ticks & fleas to date. It comes in convenient tubes for application and my 14-mo-old cat has tolerated it well. I was happy to find it on chewy.com and no prescription needed!

Frontline was not effective. Chewy refunded payment for 1st order. (We LUV Chewy) Thinking it could have been an off batch placed 2nd order. Same thing. Called Frontline, and they seemed disinterested. I did not feel it was Chewy's responsibility to refund a defective product, and I voiced my opinion. Decided to try Catego. Was pleasantly surprised! No more fleas, no more Frontline. ME-WOW! ^..^ Lucky LaRue
