Is this recommended for kittens?

is this okay for guinea pigs?

Answer by ChewyMar 08, 2021
Carefresh Rabbit & Ferret Litter is developed and manufactured specifically for certain small animals that can be trained to use a litter box, especially rabbits and ferrets. It can also be safely used for other small animals such as guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, hedgehogs, hamsters, gerbils, or mice for their litter box. We recommend checking with your local vet first before using it for other species. As with any changes to your pet's care, if you do use it be sure to observe your pet closely for changes in behavior. Potential risk of impaction exists if your pet ingests a significant amount of any type of bedding. If you suspect impaction, discontinue use immediately and seek veterinary care.

what size area would this 1 bag cover? I have three(3) 2x5 cages

Answer by ChewyMar 23, 2021
The Rabbit & Ferret litter is intended for small areas only – like a litter box, not to cover an entire cage. We would recommend using the regular carefresh bedding to cover larger cages. The 4.5 pound bag is only 343 cu inches in volume or 5.62 liters and will not even cover a cage that measures 10 cu feet with a one inch layer. 1 inch of litter = 1,440 cu inches.

Can this also be used for hedgehogs I have a rabbit and I would like to get a litter that I can use for both pets.

I purchased this litter as it would he a safe alternative to sand for a digging box for my rabbit. I used to purchase a different type of paper pellet litter, but it was discontinued so I purchased this. I trusted the Carefresh brand as that’s the other paper litter that I have used for 15 years. The reason why I knocked down a star was because when I opened the bag, it did have a mild odor to it. It’s not overwhelming though and the dust is minimal so that is great. So far he is happy digging away!

The pellets look hard at first but they are actually very soft and comfortable for my rabbit's feet. They absorb pee very well and doesn't break apart like some pellet litter, making it easier to clean. I like to spot clean the litter box daily so I'm able to use a scooper to scoop out only the poops and shake the pellets back into the box, then I complete change the litter every other day. There is a slight "paper" smell but it still controls the odor well for a few days or until much of the litter is used. I totally recommend this litter as an alternate to the usual paper bedding! My rabbit didn't have any problems adjusting to the new litter.

My ferrets love this!

I've used a lot of paper and wood type litters over the last years for my 2 ferrets and I really like this one! It absorbs wonderfully and my girls have no problem

Great Litter!

My bun was having a reaction to the dust in other litters but I didn’t want to have to use paper because it ends up everywhere. This is the perfect alternative!

Good litter

I don't understand why people write a review and give it a low rating when it sounds like the litter isn't the problem. I have 6 ferrets and have never had any issues

I don't understand why people write a review and give it a low rating when it sounds like the litter isn't the problem. I have 6 ferrets and have never had any issues with this litter. They go potty in it, it cleans up easy with scoop or I dump the pans. They don't eat it or even attempt to. It's good for they're little lungs compared to others dusty types. No complaints good product, it does what it's made for absorb poop/pee. I use to use the kaytee small pellets which is great, but they don't have a larger size bag and it's a little pricey compared to this brand.

This litter worked really well for my bunny, I don’t have to change it nearly as often as I do the shavings. And it does seem to mask urine smell but the actual product itself smells horrible. When I opened the bag my first thought was that it smelled like vomit. If I throw some hay on top I don’t notice it but I literally have to hold my breath when I open the bag to refill.

I have tried all sorts of litter for my beautiful bunny. I was finding myself changing her litter box every three days; all I could smell was her pee...gross. I found this type of litter on chewy and omg it is the best! I can now go a full week without changing her litter. Carefresh litter expands and absorbs so well and you don’t need a ton of it. A little goes a long way which is also awesome. Definitely try it!!

Where has this been all my bunnies lives

Wow, so glad I found this. The best rabbit litter I have ever found. This really cuts downs on smell & my bunnies love it. I use to have to change the litter twice

Wow, so glad I found this. The best rabbit litter I have ever found. This really cuts downs on smell & my bunnies love it. I use to have to change the litter twice a day due to odor, now I can go a couple of days & change before it gets smelly in the house. This is a winner & a game changer. Love this litter.

I can't imagine using anything other than this type of litter, but it's been so difficult to find. Wish I had thought of Chewy first! The pellets are smaller than the paper pellets she came to us with,. These absorbed faster and we used less when scooping.
