My dog has a sensitive stomach and is a picky eater; chicken and beef will give her diarrhea. You'd be amazed how many foods on shelves labeled another protein have chicken buried in the ingredients. This canidae salmon wet food was eaten right away, and doesn't upset her stomach. I mix it with Purina Pro Plan sensitive stomach salmon kibble and some water because it IS very dry for a canned food. My dog will not touch purina pro sensitive stomach salmon wet food, but she likes Canidae's salmon. A can lasts several days in the fridge.. my dog, Nova, is a 14 pound lhasa apso/terrier mix and gets 1/3rd to 1/2 cup mixed wet/dry food 2x a day. She starts gaining weight if given 1/2 cup 2x a day so now I'll do 1/3 in morning and 1/2 at night. Her coat grows fast and is super soft and shiny. She seems to have a lot more energy these days too, despite being about 8 years old.

Good Dog Food

Someone gave me two cases of this brand of dog food, so when I ran out, I purchased more. This is not the same flavor as that has been discontinued but this was close enough. The texture is a bit like pate’ but that was only strange to me. My dogs aren’t too keen in this flavor, they preferred the Duck flavor, but nevertheless the eat it all. I mix it by adding 1tbsp with grain-free dry for the little dog and 3 tbsps with grain-free dry for the large dog along with a bit of water in each bowl so as to coat the dry food. This creates a “gravy” and without it, my large breed boy will just lip around the dry to eat the wet. After years of feeding them Purina, I noticed that they were sluggish, itchy, their coats dull but more importantly their breath smelled positively FETID. After one week of feeding them this brand, the itchies stopped, their coats look much better and the FETID breath is G-O-N-E! Additionally, another really great way to tell if the dogs are eating good food, check their poop. If there’s lots of poop then this tells you that the food is mostly junk. Now that my dogs have been eating this, there’s less poop to pick up and this lets me know that they’re processing the good stuff with less bad stuff elimination. Yup, the quality of the poop tells the whole story. I will admit that this is a bit pricey, but for better health it’s worth it. Just like we’d do for ourselves. I will be ordering more for my dogs.

Our pups love this mixed with their dry Canidae!

We have tried many brands of dog food and are now trying the DRY Canidae No-Grain food and mix it with their Canidae Sea canned food! They love it! They both scratch their paws and butt area, so we are hoping that this cures those allergy type symptoms!

Helping our adult underweight rescue gain weight

Our Akita rescue, Nori, loves this food! I've been giving her a can in the morning and a can in the evening on top of her kibble. She is a good 10 - 15 pounds

Our Akita rescue, Nori, loves this food! I've been giving her a can in the morning and a can in the evening on top of her kibble. She is a good 10 - 15 pounds underweight, so we intend on feeding her two cans until she reaches her desired weight. After that, we plan to cut her down to a half can in the morning and a half can in the evening. So far, so good! She's been gaining weight and muscle despite being a little rocket around our yard and burning up so many calories!

Somewhat inconsistent

We have been using Canidae All Stages Grain-Free Limited Ingredient Salmon & Sweet Potato Recipe Canned Dog Food for over a year. Our GSD has significant food allergies

We have been using Canidae All Stages Grain-Free Limited Ingredient Salmon & Sweet Potato Recipe Canned Dog Food for over a year. Our GSD has significant food allergies and possibly EPI so we are extremely limited in what we can feed. This has been the best, combined with the same recipe of dry for her daily consumption. However, over time there has been shifts in consistency. The current case we are using has more moisture content, making it difficult to use for dosing with a pill and creating some softer stools. There have been other issues over time, but the manufacturer has given us excellent customer service.

My two golden retrievers are VERY picky eaters. One will actually lick wet food off of kibble even when it’s been mixed thoroughly. When I first opened the can, I thought that the texture was odd—incredibly thick pate that was hard to mix. The smell also wasn’t quite salmon-y. More sweet potato than salmon smelling in my opinion. But we gave it a shot and my dogs loved it! Since they are picky, it is totally worth the slight extra effort to mix it in with their kibble well. I especially love it because my goldens also have a very sensitive stomach, and the food is good for their stools. Very hard to find a wet food that is! The fat percentage is actually 3%, not 6% (confirmed by Canidae customer service, as it says 3% on the can), and the low fat is easier for my dogs to digest.

Great food!

It's perfect. It doesn't contain any form of poultry. No fat, meal, broth, etc., so it's a great food for people wanting to avoid a terribly common allergen (chicken)

It's perfect. It doesn't contain any form of poultry. No fat, meal, broth, etc., so it's a great food for people wanting to avoid a terribly common allergen (chicken) that is in 80% of pet food and treats it seems. It's a great consistency for stuffing kongs, for mixing or using on a spoon as a reward. It also seems palatable enough to hide pills in it :) I don't think it smells terrible. It smells like canned sardines, honestly; not too strong but it's appealing enough that my dog can find a speck of this food like has a radar. I imagine if you can't stand the smell of fish you'll think it stinks, but this is definitely NOT the smelliest fish based food we have used.

My dogs love this food! It's a little loose, even chilled, but they don't mind. The product contains sweet potatoes which is acceptable as well as peas, if you are trying to limit your dogs carb intake, which I am. This food was close to fulfilling my no carb wet food made with quality protein source requirement. My mix breed has yeast overgrowth and having him as carb free as possible is the goal so the yeast has nothing to feed on. Will buy again and also check ingredients on the dry version of this. They are currently on Wellness Grain Free Reduced Fat kibble.

Picky dog

Unfortunately, although my dog loves sweet potatoes, he would barely touch this food. I guess, like me, he doesn’t like salmon! So, I’ll be canceling this auto ship and replacing it with another flavor. I love Canidae foods, though. When Teddy was eating Purina puppy chow, then Blue Buffalo, he was, shall we say, gassy. Really, this dog could clear a room! His vet suggested Canidae and he’s been fine for 7 years! No more gas attacks!
