Why does this contain ingredients that are harmful to mice, like raisins?

Answer by Chewy • Sep 08, 2021
Raisins and other dried fruits are actually fine in moderation to rats. They are still high in sugar so should only be fed in small amounts, however they can be useful as part of a balanced diet.

Can my dwarf hammys & gerbils eat this if my rat doesn't like it?

Answer by Chewy • Aug 07, 2020
This food is intended for rats and mice. For Gerbils and hamsters we recommend the Brown's Tropical Carnival Gerbil & Hamster Food.

Can squirrel eat this

Answer by Chewy • Apr 11, 2020
This food is specifically formulated to help pet rats and mice.

What is the shelf life? And how quickly would one mouse eat the entire bag?

Answer by Chewy • Dec 22, 2018
This food is good until the expiration date printed on the bag. How long this bag will last depends on your individual pet.

Great Treat, Horrible Diet

This is a great treat, but a horrible diet. As a treat, the Ratties, Mice, Hamsters, and Gerbils LOVE it, but I would only feed it MAYBE once a month, as the fat content is too high, there's too much fatty nuts & seeds, too much sugar, a lot of corn, too many artificial colors and a few other unhealthy ingredients, and not enough protein and other healthy ingredients included in this "diet". However, I totally don't mind giving it to all of these guys every once in awhile! The Rats think it's okay but usually prefer their higher quality, expensive, fresh foods instead. Most of the Mice tend to enjoy it, but some think it's nasty, the Gerbils think it's good, but they're opinion is similar to the Mice, and the Hamsters love it, of course. But as I mentioned before, I would avoid feeding them too much of this stuff. Rats and Mice can't digest corn products or some of the artifitical stuff, but it's okay in moderation. However, Gerbils and Hamsters can easily digest corn and a small amount of it should actually be provided in their daily diet, but the high fat and sugar content is very unhealthy, especially for Hamsters, as they are prone to obesity and getting Type 2 Diabetes...but this is an excellent treat in moderation! The ingredients and the mixture in this diet here are better than the "Brown's Tropical Carnival Natural Rat & Mouse diet". I would avoid the "Natural" kind altogether, since literally 80% of the bag are Sunflower Seeds. I hope this helps! :D

good as a part of a balanced diet!

my mice love this stuff, but it'd be a pretty awful idea to feed them this alone due to its fat content, sugar content, and use of food dyes. to balance that out

my mice love this stuff, but it'd be a pretty awful idea to feed them this alone due to its fat content, sugar content, and use of food dyes. to balance that out to an extent, this food contains probiotic bacteria and antioxidants which are not only very good but a bit of a rarity. I feed this to my mice at a ratio of 2:3 with the larger share being Oxbow Mouse & Young Rat food, and I think that's sort of the upper limit of how much of this you should give to your lil critters. (I'm not an expert though) I'd probably reccomend the natural version of this food instead, and I'll likely switch over to that one after my current bag is complete, but overall this is a pretty sensible choice in moderation.

This brand is one of the few brands that exist which do not contain alfalfa. Alfalfa can't be digested by rats or mice, and therefore shouldn't be a source of food for them. Brown's seems to be the only company aware of this. Thank you for providing my mice and rats with a healthy and enjoyable diet that lets them thrive, saves me money, and eliminates food waste (from uneaten alfalfa).

Started adding this to my ratties' daily diet (on top of oxbow regal rat) and they love it! It definitely encourages their natural foraging habits -- every time I clean their cages I find a big ol' stash of it hidden somewhere. Not to mention it saves on their other food (which can get expensive esp. having multiple rats) and it was waaay cheaper than any other seed mixes I've found in my local pet store. My rats and I are very happy!

Rats shouldn't eat unpopped popcorn (choking and digestive issues), and especially not so high on the ingredient list. Sunflower seeds are too high on the list as they are very high in fat. I also wouldn't have fruits so high on the list. Fruits are a healthy treat, but nevertheless very high in sugar. The protein and fat levels look good overall, but there are dyes and artificial flavors which are completely unnecessary. Consider a lab block (Oxbow, Mazuri) or a shunamite diet (such as on Etsy) that is specifically formulated for your age of rat.

Wish it were 3 lbs

It smells pretty tasty,I know if I was a rat/mouse or other seed eating rodent I would eat it So far my three rats don't snub it,unlike the kaytee brand food.

Good product

My rats love this food! No more cheap store bought food for them. They deserve the best and Chewy delivers. Convenient and fast. I also ordered new beds and toys

Was looking for a good, affordable, food that wasn't just seed and not full of pellets. Came across this while browsing Chewy and tried it. It is filled so so many things that are so healthy for my mice, without adding those obnoxious rabbit pellets (you know the brown, elongated junk) that always got left behind! This has dried fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, as well as fruity pellets that they love (and keep their teeth trim). I highly recommend this to all mouse and rat owners. I have been raising/breeding them for 20+ years, and this is definitely one of the best foods I have come across.

Just Great!

My mouse Penny is a picky diva. I've tried several brands of mouse food and she won't touch the pellet or donut looking kibble ones. She's more into seeds and dried veggies which IMO is better for them. It also has treat kibble included in it. Penny approves this food. This brands seed treat pouch is also a winner.
