Chewy is passionate about protecting dogs and cats from the discomfort and diseases that fleas and ticks can cause. That is why we developed the OnGuard Plus line of flea and tick prevention treatments. Our exclusive line comes in two convenient treatment options that make it easy for pet parents to keep their pets and homes protected. OnGuard Plus Flea & Tick Spot Treatment is available in specific formulas for dogs and cats and helps provide worry-free protection against infestations and reinfestations. It kills fleas, from eggs to adults, and is effective against the fleas that cause flea-allergy dermatitis. It also kills ticks, from larvae to adults, including brown dog ticks, American dog ticks, lone star ticks, and deer ticks that may carry Lyme disease. Additionally, our spot treatment helps protect against chewing lice while helping to prevent the transmission of flea-borne and tick-borne diseases. OnGuard Plus Flea & Tick Collar for Dogs kills fleas, flea eggs, ticks, and mosquitoes. We have made both of our flea and tick prevention options simple to apply and waterproof so they’re quick, convenient, and reliable. With OnGuard Plus by Chewy, it’s easy for pet parents to make sure their dogs and cats have effective flea and tick prevention care so they stay happy, healthy, and protected.

OnGuard Plus Flea & Tick Spot Treatment for dogs and cats starts working immediately on fleas, eliminating the pests within 24 hours of contact. It’s important to note that initially seeing more fleas on your pet is a sign that the treatment is working, because fleas rise to the surface of the pet’s coat when they come in contact with OnGuard Plus. These fleas will soon perish, and the life cycle of the eggs and larvae will be disrupted, preventing more fleas from hatching. The active ingredient in the spot treatment can take up to 48 hours after application to begin working on ticks.
OnGuard Plus Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs achieves maximum effectiveness in 2–3 weeks.
For OnGuard Plus Flea & Tick Spot Treatment:
1. Hold the tube with the notched end pointing up and away from you.
2. Using scissors, clip the narrow end at the notch along the indicator line.
3. Part your pet’s coat between the shoulder blades.
4. Place the tip next to the skin and dispense the entire tube onto the skin between your pet’s shoulder blades.
Important to know: OnGuard Plus Flea & Tick Spot Treatments for dogs and cats are not interchangeable—use only the treatment specifically created for dogs or cats and only the one that is correct for your pet’s weight. The dog treatment option cannot be used on puppies weighing less than 5 pounds, and puppies must be eight weeks of age or older. The cat treatment option cannot be used on kittens weighing less than 1.5 pounds, and kittens must be over eight weeks of age.
For best results, wait 3–4 days after bathing your dog or cat to apply the flea and tick prevention treatment. Your pet needs to be completely dry when the treatment is applied and needs to stay completely dry for 24 hours afterwards for the treatment to become waterproof. Always separate freshly treated pets from other pets for 24 hours to prevent them from licking the treatment. For a simple demonstration of the how-to-apply steps, please watch the Chewy Pharmacy video on the product’s description page.
For OnGuard Plus Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs:
1. When first applying the collar, do so indoors only, away from wind.
2. Don’t open the foil pouch until you are ready to put it on your dog.
3. Remove the collar from the foil packaging.
4. Unroll the collar and wipe it with a damp cloth to remove excess dust residue.
5. Place the collar around your dog's neck. You want to create a snug fit, but it should not be too tight—you should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck.
6. Cut off any excess length beyond the buckle.
Important to know: OnGuard Plus Flea and Tick Collar for Dogs cannot be used on cats at all and cannot be used on puppies under 12 weeks of age.
Because dust forms on the collar during storage, the collar must initially be put on indoors so it is away from wind. Do not let the dust get in the mouth or eyes of you or your dog. Prior to initially putting the collar on, wipe it with a damp paper towel or disposable cloth to capture the dust.
OnGuard Plus Flea & Tick Spot Treatment is formulated to last up to 30 days under normal circumstances; however, if severe infestations are being treated, an additional treatment might be needed sooner than usual. It is crucial to consult your veterinarian to know what is best for your pet.
