This litter only contains premium clay.

How does this do using the automatic litterboxes?

While generally Automatic Litter Boxes are designed to function with clay-based litter, the Boxiecat Unscented Odor Control Clumping Clay Cat & Kitty Litter is not specifically designed to be compatible with Automatic Litter Boxes.

I don’t know what’s happened with Tidy Cats and Fresh Step, but both brands used to be pretty dust-free. They are far from that now. I have a cat that’s VERY particular about his litter. After ready countless reviews, BoxieCat had the most reviews about how it was virtually dust-free. I bought a small bag of this stuff the other week to test with my very picky cat. Absolutely no issues. I just received to large bags and fully cleaned out my boxes. When I was pouring this litter into the boxes, there was literally no dust. I expected some - but there was nothing. I don’t know how they did it, but they did. This litter is more expensive than the others but if you have a picky cat or you hate the dust from clay litter or you dislike chemicals in your litter, then it’s absolutely worth it. I am very thankful for everyone who has left reviews about this litter because otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have tried it.

I ordered this cat litter because I've heard pretty good things about it. Unfortunately Chewy still uses FedEx, and they're notorious for man-handling packages. So when I opened my box, I found the litter bag had been ripped open at the top and litter was everywhere. It was super disappointing, especially with how expensive this litter is. I tried to salvage as much as I could, but it feels like such a waste.

I agree with the previous reviewer that the formula has changed. I've been using this litter for my three cats for a couple of years now and was very happy with it. It's more expensive but lasts longer and cuts down on odors much better than other litters I've tried. But the formula has obviously changed. The litter from my newest bag looks visibly different. It honestly looks very similar to the cheapest clay litters found at big box stores. One of my cats has also been having issues recently with using the box, which is very unusual for him. I will also be contacting Boxiecat to ask about this, but I'll likely not buy this brand again. This is really disappointing. Finding good litter that is safe for our pets isn't easy. It would be nice to know that this brand is reliable and safe for my cats, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

My cat loves this litter. I have tried many over the past year, as I have bad allergies and she is quit picky. I need a litter that is honestly low in dust, and scent free. She is allergic to wheat and corn (among many food allergies) and gets paw swelling if we use those. She won't use walnut. Grass causes asthmatic reactions for me. Many clay litters are super dusty. The ones that aren't don't clump well, are large sharp pieces, etc. This litter is fine like sand, which is why I'm sure she loves it. She actually buries her excrement. If she is unhappy with something in her box she does not, and instead tries to use the walls to bury (common in cats). This litter is truthfully nearly dust free, clumps VERY well, and does GREAT on odors, I am pleasantly surprised. The only major draw back for me is it tracks HORRIBLY. But ll the other major wins out-way that con, at least for now.

Formula change! Vomiting! Peeing outside box!

I have used Boxiecat (well, my cats have) for many years because it has clumped well with minimal-to-no odor and less dust than most. But my most recent purchase

I have used Boxiecat (well, my cats have) for many years because it has clumped well with minimal-to-no odor and less dust than most. But my most recent purchase (2 bags in December 2025) is HORRIBLE! The litter is yellow rather than grey and doesn't clump well at all. There are lots of little crumbly bits in the litter boxes now. Worse, one of my cats has begun vomiting periodically (never was an issue before) and there have been several peeing-outside-the-box issues. The vomiting and peeing could be coincidence and not causation, but neither behavior is normal for my cats and only began when the litter formula changed, so I'm not willing to take the risk of continuing to use it. I'm very disappointed and have contacted Boxiecat to see if this is a temporary issue or if the formula has permanently changed.

I switched to this after having some breathing issues for me and my cat from a previous litter. So nice to dump the bag and not see the normal puff of dust! I’m not someone who doesn’t scoop right away so I cannot speak off odor control and it does track a little out of the box a few feet but having all black furniture and not seeing footprints, it is amazing. 2nd bag I bought for my other cats box. She was totally an anthropologist in her last life and black and still nothing on her fur or footprints. I just got my 3rd bag and it is different. Darker and not as fine. Hoping it’s just a batch and not a product change. That is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars.

Ordered this litter and ALL 3 I had delivered at once were all opened. I think it’s more problems with USPS throwing around the packages than the litter itself just super unusual! That being said, despite the litter being actually everywhere it was very minimal dust. My picky litter box cat used it immediately and it didn’t sink to the bottom and odor was removed immediately. For now, 3 stars but will update if the next set I get isn’t completely popped open. Side note: Chewy support continues to be second to none.

Boxiecat- Best litter yet!

I've had several cats over the years and have tried many cat litters. Boxiecat has been the best by far when it comes to controlling odors. I have two cats who share a large litter box, and I keep my litter box in the foyer which is the first room when you enter my apartment. Since using Boxiecat one would never know there are two cats in the apartment. No odor whatsoever. As far as tracking,it can get slightly messy, but a little extra sweeping is ok. The clumping is pretty good overall as well. I totally recommend if odor free is important to you. It's worth the price of the product too!

My cat’s vote is yes

My cat has started covering her litter business again! When using the clay litter we previously tried, she stopped covering. I’d hoped Boxiecat would not be as heavy for her and for me (carrying from front door to litter box is a challenge) but Boxiecat cat is just as heavy. HOWEVER, Boxiecat litter is a finer clay, so it’s easier for cat to do her covering. So if she says YES, I say YES. My response to the complaints about dust: just stop pouring from the bag! I use a scoop to put litter in the box and dust is not a problem. Boxiecat does sell a lightweight litter, but it contains wheat and barley which we can’t use in this warm humid climate (bugs consider it food!).
