How much of the 12 ounces can the hummingbird actually reach

Answer by ChewyApr 06, 2026
Hummingbirds can access virtually the full 12‑ounce capacity of the Hummerfest feeder. A very small amount of nectar may remain once the level drops below the feeding ports, but the vast majority of the nectar is available to the birds.

I haven’t had this long, so we’ll see how it hold up over time. So far, I love it! It’s only 3 pieces, including the hook which screws into a brass nut that’s set into the base. This feeder is super easy to clean, which is important! Every time you refill a hummingbird feeder it should be cleaned, otherwise the birds can get sick. I love that this one is easy to fill, and the hummingbirds can drink every last drop of nectar from it. 10/10! So far, waaaay better than the previous style feeder I’ve tried.

This feeder, although not cheap, is made to last. The plastic top fits securely onto the bottom part, and so the syrup inside never leaks. There's a reservoir in the middle to keep ants from getting to the syrup. And the plastic is much better for the birds than metal flowers on other feeders.

The hook out of the box is bent to tightly. To get the feeder mounted I had to tilt the feeder to the side a great deal. This causes about 1/2 the food to leak out onto your hands, patio or ground. I bent the hooks so the could rest on our mounting hook. Doing this made the feeders rock in the wind preventing a bird from being able to feed. I note have two unusable hummingbird feeders and have purchased replacements from a different source.

The holes where the hummingbirds insert their beaks to eat are funnel shaped. So when we have rain, all the rain goes straight into the mixture/sugar water. The top slides on and does not snap to the bottom like my old feeder. I’m glad I only bought one. I don’t like it at all. Also, the hook was so small it can’t hang on any regular sized shepherds hooks, so my husband had to take pliers to open the hook on the feeder so I could hang it. If I would have known it needed a special kind of hanger I wouldn’t have bought it. I could have replaced my old one from the hardware store or just about anyplace else. I love Chewy, they are an awesome company. Buying this feeder was my mistake for not reading more carefully.

No leaks!

I love this feeder, no leaks of the nectar! My hummers like it and now I don't have to worry about attracting ants with spills when changing out the feeders.

I like it!

I'm not sure if the birds do, but I do. I've had it hanging for over a week and, so far, no birds have shown up. Haven't given up hope though.

I have bought 4 of these this year so far I don't think I will ever use any other kind. I have had ants in my feeders for years. These are amazing about helping with that problem. I may get just a few ants but not hundreds like I did before. I could count on one hand how many ants have made their way into this feeder. I also have seen more hummingbirds this year than last year.

I like that it empties faster, so I don't leave fermented food out by mistake
