Is there a safe way to clean these? And will cleaning them change the taste or my dogs liking to them?

Answer by HTNDACHJan 22, 2025
You can throw them in the top rack of the dishwasher w/o detergent to sanitize. You can throw them in a load of laundry. You can dip them in a bucket of hot water and soap or bleach but rinse thoroughly. Yes, there may be some flavor loss but you can add back by boiling on the stop in a pot of broth or stock.

For "small breed." This item was NOT for small breed. Perhaps for a large breed German Shepherd! I have a small breed mixedTerrier, these are clearly not. Please clarify, your online description needs change or I was sent the wrong product. I cannot use them.

You get to choose the size up top just pay attention. They have options for xsmall, small, medium, and large...

What are these actually made of? Are they edible toys and digestible? Please advise thank you

Answer by ChewyNov 23, 2021
These Benebone chew toys are made with USA-sourced nylon. The toys are not edible. This chew toy should be replaced after damage or significant wear. Rice-sized flakes are normal, but if it looks like larger chunks are about to come off, it’s time to replace.

Can you make a dent in these when you press with your fingernail? Or are they harder?

Answer by ChewyDec 01, 2021
Benebone chew toys are made of super-strong nylon and real flavors, a fingernail would not be able to press into the chew.

I have four-fur fantastic babies, and whenever I find a 4-pack, I am intrigued. My beloved 60-70 lb love babies were thrilled to get their Chewy delivery, and then I went right down the line (first come, first served), to pick which flavor they wanted. Each of the three flavors were a hit in this boxed set for my kids. I have one who is a bit finicky, so she surprised me by enjoying the Jack Salmon. All four are destructive chewers, but for their size and chew strength, for review purposes, I would call it medium to heavy chewers (pitties). I have had these chew bones at the time of this review for a month, and all the chews are still holding their shapes, with obvious chew marks, and still a huge fan favorite in this house (photo is of two of four - all I could find at the moment).

I have an 80 lb one-year-old pup who loves to chew on sticks, toys, hands, and anything else that she knows won't get her into too much trouble. She has jaws of doom that break down the smaller toys in a matter of days. So far the first one has been with me a week and she has only managed to rough it up a bit but not get any good chunks or divots in the twig-style chewie. I am happy that it comes in a multipack that I can have stashed at various places that I stay as well as the car. They seem pricy until you actually piece it out per the total price. Then it's actually cheaper.

My dog is a harsh chewer, with very very sharp teeth, so chew toys are always a bit stress-inducing as I’m not sure if they’ll hold up. These ones do! They’re amazingly durable! I got this pack as a Christmas present for her and they’re all still chewable. I rotate them sometimes, but her all-time favorites are the fish and the stick. I’ll definitely be buying these from now on!

I have a 4.5 month old corgi puppy. It took her a while to start using the teething toys but once she started using them she loved them, she started with a preference for the small green rubbery one when she was really young (about 2 to months old) and now has a preference for the Y shaped bone toy and sometimes likes the branch shaped one. She still occasionally attempts to chew other things but for the most part the teething toys keep her focus if we pull her away from those items and replace it with her current favourite teething toy.

Don't let that little face fool you - Nina (9lb 18mth old chihuahua mix) is a super chewer. Benebones are the only dog chews that have a chance of lasting more than a day in her jaws. She loves all the shapes and flavors, and I have them on autoship to make sure we are always well stocked!

Durable and safe for our pup

We've never had any "light" chewers, so finding things that are fun and engaging while lasting more than 3.2 seconds and being safe has been a years-long challenge

We've never had any "light" chewers, so finding things that are fun and engaging while lasting more than 3.2 seconds and being safe has been a years-long challenge. We currently have one dog, and he's a great dane who Chews. Hard. These toys are large enough for him and apparently have enough flavor to regularly keep his attention. They don't splinter off or break dangerously. The ends will get pretty rough over time. We sometimes smooth them back down and sometimes just rotate in new toys/bones. The multipack was available at a great price, and it was definitely time to rotate in some new ones. He said, "Thank you, Chewy, for your super fast shipping and for putting out all kinds of deals and coupons my Mom can't resist so I get EVEN MORE STUFF!"

Bow wow! Mini-Aussie Cassidy LOVES these chew toys. And they last. She's a 10 month old aggressive chewer, more like an OCD chewer, and these bones are a perfect size for her (she is 25 lbs. and gets size Small). She will gnaw on the bone for 30 minutes at a time with fervor - very satisfying for her. Each bone lasts several weeks and they are made in USA! Hurray! I love that there is a 4-pack of different shapes now. Great product.

Sad to say we won't be buying these anymore

For years we've given my 6 yr old and 5 yr old dogs this multipack at Christmas. I had seen reviews and reports online that very hard bones like these could be dangerous

For years we've given my 6 yr old and 5 yr old dogs this multipack at Christmas. I had seen reviews and reports online that very hard bones like these could be dangerous but I thought my dogs knew their limits and weren't aggressive chewers. Unfortunately because of these bones one of my dogs now has multiple fractured teeth. If I could go back in time I would have chosen softer toys given how much they like to chew. As much as they love these bones, it's not worth the risk. I'm giving 2 stars because for dogs who know to take it easy with hard toys, Benebones still might be a good choice. But I wish I had listened to the warnings instead of putting my boys at risk.

Benebones are the BEST!!!!

My two heelers love these Bene bones! We have purchased so many over the years. They are worth every penny. My 1-year-old grew up on these. Which is why I am convinced she never chewed on anything she wasn't supposed to. They are very enticing. Apparently they smell very good my dogs go crazy for them! I'm the best part is they don't break off in giant chunks. Occasionally A Small Piece Will chip off.. but usually it stays in one piece as they chew it. And normally these bones run 10 to $15 a piece. This package deal is an excellent price!
