Treats for dogs with no teeth

Is this toy edible? My dogs chews them down to smaller and smaller sizes.

Answer by ChewyJan 09, 2018
Benebones are not edible.

Hi, I just bought Benebone dog chew for my pomeranian last week, she is a “super power chewer”, and I saw that she chewed some small pieces out of it, will it be harmful for dogs if they eaten some pieces of it? Thanks.

Answer by ChewyJun 28, 2020
If pieces the size of rice or smaller fall off the Benebone, these generally do not cause a problem. If the product has lost more than a sugar cube’s worth of volume, it’s time to replace.

how big is regular

Answer by ChewyMay 27, 2020
The Small size is 5.3 by 3.8 inches. The Medium size is 7 by 4.8 inches. The Large size is 8.3 by 5.5 inches.

I have a PACK with soo many varieties breeds.. From Sir Griffin in picture.. They ALL love the Beenobones.. I must have at least 30 or more of these bones.. and it is amazing the abuse they take.. from the littles to the bigs.. Doberman.. Pointer/English Lab Staffordshire.. Corgi.. list goes on and on.. I have found this to be the BEST chew toy EVER.. and I have always had multiple dogs.. I have to say my Griffin is my aggressive chewer.. and he has NEVER been hurt by pieces coming off .. and everybodies teeth are GREAT!! I have to laugh at them, as they get one of them out of their toy box and then All argue over it.. even though there’s tons of them.. they always want the one the other one has.. I wake up in the mornings to find at least 10-12 of them in my bed.. when I go to bed there’s none.. they manage to sneak them in at night and lay and chew while I sleep.. I can’t say enough good things about these chew toys.. I’m constantly buying them wherever and whenever I find on sale.. mostly chewy as they have best price.. my vet always tells me how great their teeth look.. my Doberman is allergic to everything but these chews.. and they come WITHOUT chicken in them.. that being her worst of her allergies.. and one lick of something chicken flavor will break her entire 110 pound body out.. not with these .. no hidden ingredients.. and they last forever.. and best thing of all.. going thru our puppy stages NONE of them have chewed my furniture or walls .. that alone makes them the Best Ever chew for my dogs.. when they start getting to ruff on edges I toss them.. but that’s alright I have backups.. even Kong lets me down when it comes to indestructible chew toys.. no gross smelling bully sticks.. or greasy bones.. I LOVE this product and will continue to buy them.. happy dogs.. happy home.. people wonder why their dogs tear up their homes.. bored dogs CHEW!!!! And usually head to the furniture for that reason.. they are bored and nice angles on furniture to chew.. if you let the edges get too ruff it will make their gums bleed.. not a big deal.. throw that one away and start fresh.. I buy the medium size that works for all my dogs ..110lb’s to 10lb’s I think I’ve shown enough pictures to prove my point.. anyways .. Great product for my house.. I hope they don’t stop making them..

I purchased this same bone about a year ago for my corgi puppy. We noticed she would try to chew on stuff when she was bored. This took care of that so well! A year later and you can see on the picture how much my fur baby has gone through. Towards the end she couldn’t really hold onto the bone so she wouldn’t be able to nibble on it like she usually does & that’s when we noticed she wanted to chew on something when she got bored. The second we unboxed the new bone, she got right to it! She absolutely loves it and I recommend all the dog parents that have a fur baby that really loves to chew, this is the one. 10/10!

I have a huge assortment of nylon and rubber toys for my new super-chewing iron-jawed 60lb pittie mix. She will usually pick Benebones over the other nylon chews, but I rotate her toys upstairs and down and swap them out now and then to keep them "interesting" to her. She doesn't seem to have a preference between these bacon ones (Large pictured) or peanut butter, but she does prefer the Zaggler shape over the Wishbone. Zaggler is better for larger or heavy-chewing dogs as well since the big round shape is more difficult to get between their molars to clamp down on and break a tooth. Benebone's sizing is MUCH more accurate than Nylabone, but still size up if you have a very heavy-chewing dog. Bigger chews are safer. Pictures show this with a bunch of other Nylabone, Benebone, Tikaton, and Bark nylon chew toys in Med/Lg for size reference. Highly recommended!

We have a Daniff (Mastiff/Dane) and she has chewed up ALL of her toys within minutes to hours. But not this bone! She has knawed on this thing for hours, we've had the same one now for 4 months. She takes her puppy energy out on it and it hasn't even cracked. Absolutely feel every giant breed dog owner needs this for their puppies! She's actually 16 months now and still loves it! We have the giant one but I'm sure it's great for all puppies since it comes in all sizes. I'm also not worried about her chewing off some of it and swallowing it because it literally has nothing wrong with it!

We have 3 mastiffs. A 10 month old English Mastiff, a 2yr old Cane Corso and a 13yr old Cane Corso who all throughly enjoy this durable and completely safe chew toy. Our crew can pretty much destroy the majority of dog toys, it's just a matter of time as to how quickly it happens. But these Benebones seem invincible! I purchased 2 of them thinking I'd need a back up but they are holding up better than any Nylabone or similar types chew toys. All 3 beast have been working on the 2 bones nonstop and there's almost no wear to show for it. The ergonomic design is great for the dogs to position it in their paws comfortably. And because they are technically 3-pronged for lack of a better description, the ends stay in rotation so there's no sharp edges from constant direct contact in one spot. I have not seen any signs of gum bleed either which is awesome. The size, I purchased large or extra large I believe, is very appropriate for my giant breed doggos. I purchased these on sale and now knowing what a superior product it is, I'll happily pay full price as to throwing my money away on chew toys that are simply not strong or large enough to keep my dogs safe and happy. This product will not splinter as it is made of a semi-ridgid, material that is still soft enough to prevent gum bleeding.

Let me just preface by saying we've only had this bone a few days, so this review could be very premature. But I'm so impressed I just had to review. My dog has been hooked on this thing like I've only ever seen him with edible chews, and he's more partial to cutting his teeth on soft toys over rubber. I had hoped this toy would be the exception, and wow! Is it ever! I think it's the smell, but I can't smell a thing. We have to chew this toy in doses cuz he could gnaw on it for hours. A lesser toy would be splinters by now, and a Himalayan chew would be digested! Thanks to the wishbone shape, he is 50lbs and can hold the regular and gnaw and can't maneuver it enough to try and crack it, which is a problem with edible chews and my fear with antlers. He's never been an aggressive chewer, more persistent, and I can only see the smallest dent in this toy after maybe an hour of chewing a day for three days. If it last me more than a month without breaking I can definitely see myself buying a million more.

Caution! Causing Dental Damage

I bought these for my 60 lb Am. Bulldog mix. He loves chewing- these seemed like a safe option. They’ve been his only chew for months now, he has no access to anything else. He now has FRACTURED TEETH from the Benebones! His teeth were fracture-free from his adoption in 10/23 through this spring. Nothing else can be implicated for the damage- the Benebones are the culprit. He has zero chance to chew on anything else but Benebones and grass! I feel like a terrible owner for buying him something that has caused permanent damage to his teeth, making them vulnerable to future dental disease and ultimately could even need extraction down the road. I work in vet med and suggest clients against using very hard chews like antlers. Now I will steer people away from Benebones too.

I have a 55 pound Irish setter/Doberman mix who is going through the end stage of puppy teething. I bought this after getting the hammer looking one. This is turned out to be his favorite chew. He spends six hours a day chewing on this and caring it everywhere with him. After six days of some major chewing, he has barely put a dent in it. The only issue is as he choose. It gets sharp points. This can be remedied by taking a palm, sander and sanding the points off and letting him start over again. If you have a serious tour , put this treat to the test. Not only is your dog going to be happy but so are you.

We adopted our Husky mix from the Humane Society. They said he had been abused very badly and was terrified of people and other stimulus. He would "never be a normal dog and would take a LOT of patience. He might not ever be able to ride in a car and he certainly would never be a lap dog". Well, we're working on it, and he's made lots of progress in a short amount of time, but yes, he is not a "normal" dog. He needs everything in his mouth. He has to chew or mouth everything he can find for comfort. People. Objects. You name it. He's not hurting people, but it's an annoyance and strangers won't understand. It's also impossible to keep up on his chewing needs, it's extremely expensive. He just destroys every toy in minutes, This benebone is great so far. We just got it, so time will tell, but as of now, he loves it and has not disintegrated and/or eaten it. It's still in tact, which is crazy because he's given it a lot of attention. Hoping it continues to be a favorite distraction and doesn't wind up breaking into dangerous shards he can swallow. So far it has not, and that is better than most things.

Most durable chew so far!

My young Lab has been working his way through a variety of "tough" chew toys and bones. Not many last more than a week before they break into pieces and/or wear down and are then too small to be safe. This wishbone (large) was more than I wanted to spend but I figured it was worth a shot, especially if it lasted a few weeks or more. He LOVES it! Initially had some trouble grasping it and getting it to stay upright in his paws but now, 6 days in, he's a pro. He'll actually pick it up and go to his "place" without my asking (miracle) to chew it and last night he kept himself occupied for about 1 hour (miracle). Nothing entertains him for that long! You can see that it has some wear but not nearly as much as other bones and chews. I'd recommend this and we will try the peanut butter wishbone in the future!
