Will this work to prevent butt licking so the medicine can finally do its job? I'm trying to prevent having to use a cone.

Does this help with neutering and hernia removal?

Answer by LisaMay 17, 2026
Yes. Great way to avoid a cone!

Does this work for males and females following both spay and neuter?

Answer by ChewyOct 05, 2023
This Recovery Apparel can be worn by male and female dogs and is suitable for use after spaying and neutering.

How to measure for sizes?

Answer by ChewyOct 10, 2024
Measuring your pet's length and chest circumference is the best way to gauge which size BellyGuard will be best for them. We recommend using a fabric measuring tape if you have one, which is easiest to get an accurate measurement. To measure chest girth, measure around the body behind the front legs. To measure length, measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. If your dog is between sizes, we recommend opting for the bigger. You don’t want your BellyGuard to be too snug on a healing incision or on irritated skin. Plus, two layers of snaps make for an adjustable, customizable fit.

Buy two if you can so you can have a clean one if needed

HIGHLY recommend this suit. Nice and stretchy, fits perfectly. Easy to unsnap for potty time. She did NOT lick at all after her spay. SO very happy with this product

HIGHLY recommend this suit. Nice and stretchy, fits perfectly. Easy to unsnap for potty time. She did NOT lick at all after her spay. SO very happy with this product. I bought two and glad I did because once we forgot to unsnap and she peed in it so had one clean one ready to replace. If you wash, wash on cold and DO NOT use the dryer - it's stretchy and imagine it would shrink, just hang to dry or use the NO HEAT option in the dryer.

I bought 2 of these recovery onesies for my 7 month old Morkie in anticipation of her spay surgery. I remembered how difficult it was for my last female dog, 13 yrs ago when she was spayed. Having to wear an e collar (a\k\a a "cone of shame") which interfered with her eating food and drinking water among other things. These onsies eliminate the need for a collar to prevent the dog from licking, biting or scratching at the surgical site. Wearing this suit made my puppys recovery smooth as silk. She never once paid any undue attention to the surgical site and it healed up beautifully! Plus she looked so darn cute livin' the Ruff Life!! I highly recommend the use of this post surgery suit.

My vet told me to order one of these ahead of time before Sadie’s spay surgery. Heeding her advise, I found this at Chewy And received it within a day of ordering it. Sadie wore the cone of shame while at the veterinary hospital, but once they delivered her to me, I immediately put her new Belly guard on. She has now worn it for 4 days and she likes having it on. I took it off after two days and laundered it, but other than that, she has worn it entire time. She has not even had one opportunity to examine her surgery site and is definitely comfortable with it. The snaps allow for some adjustment in length of body. And the Forward snap keeps everything Tidy while doing chores. I would highly recommend this for anyone who has a dog or cat that has had surgery.

I bought three different suits to have on hand for my puppy’s recovery from being spayed. This is definitely the best for the following reasons: fit the best; easiest to get on and off and easy to adapt to taking her out to pee; the most comfortable for her to wear, easy to machine wash and quick to dry (hang to dry). I wish I had bought at least two of these. The others were difficult to get on/off and one had no way to allow access for the dog to pee. One had Velcro which just gets stuck on every thing. The quality of this for the price was way better than the others which were both more expensive.

No more Cone removal issues!

This fit my tiny, 4lb Pomeranian pretty good after her spay. She has so much fur, that it was a tad tight, but not overly so. She's the black one in the photo. (the other Pom is 12 lbs and wearing a small) The biggest thing is, no more cone of shame! She kept removing the cone, as the smallest one was still too big for her. And she wouldn't eat, drink, MOVE, unless we took the cone off! Once I put this on her, she immediately layed down and curled up and slept for hours! She was so exhausted from the cone and just standing there! She then woke up and drank forever, ate heartily, and then went out for potty. YAY!!!

I had never heard of a surgery suit a person on social media told me about this item and it seemed like a better idea than cone of shame. Our girl had her spay surgery and did not mind it. We loved the surgery suit. Made of all cotton easy on easy off and flip up to take dog out to pee. Easy peasy! Chewy got it to us in one day! We LOVE Chewy

I had never heard of a surgery suit until a neighbor told me about it shortly before getting my little Hattie spayed. I knew there was no way she would tolerate a cone so I decided to give this a try. So glad I did! I ordered two based on suggestions from other reviews since we are still potty training and I like putting a clean one on her each morning. It is designed well, fabric is good quality and snaps are sturdy. I found that leaving the tail part up all the time (snaps at front neck) works nicely as her incision is still covered and she hasn’t been bothered by it or tried to lick the area. I hand wash and either air dry or put in dryer depending how quickly I need. Oh, and shipping was quick, received the next day.

This worked GREAT for our little guy recovering from neutering surgery. Unfortunately I only discovered it AFTER I had tried the soft collar and another brand of recovery suit. The other brand was too gappy and he could get under it and dig at his stitches. The Belly Guard brand was better construction. Also, much easier to roll up and snap when he needed to go potty.

My little Ruby was spayed 3 days ago and has been wearing her recovery suit. It is so easy to put on and when she has to potty I just unsnap it and pull it up and re-snap it in place while she does her business. She doesn’t mind wearing it at all and I have not taken it off yet since her surgery. She has not been tempted to even lick by her sutures at all. I’m so happy with this recovery suit it covers, protects and keeps her surgical area clean and dry. I would highly recommend this for any dog after surgery. I just love it .

Really Does its Job

This is a great alternative to the dreaded cone. It has a number of snaps so you can get a tight fit, and helps keep the flap out of the way when the dog goes outside

This is a great alternative to the dreaded cone. It has a number of snaps so you can get a tight fit, and helps keep the flap out of the way when the dog goes outside. I bought it to use when my pup got neutered. It's got a pocket in that area so you can put padding inside to really protect the sutures.
