Finally something that worked. After many months of trying this and that and even a skin biopsy (only conclusion of what it wasn't) Vet suggested this medicine. It is of course expensive but less through Chewy. Started out with minor rash on her belly/groin area. Went on vacation for 2 weeks and she had what looked like "hot spots" on the base of her tail and back along the spine. Antibiotics, steroids, topicals either didn't work at all or just for a short period of time. Ended up buying a tie-dyed soft collar through Chewy to keep her from the constant licking. So much better than the plastic cones if you ever need something like that. Her "hot spot" cleared up within 2 weeks. The only downfall is that she is not a treat eater so had to give her this as an oral med. It smells awful and I'm guessing tastes awful as well because she will sometimes spit it up or just foam at the mouth. I feel bad but keep telling her it's for her own good. Was a daily dose but now down to every 3 days. I hope it keeps working. The only conclusion to what caused it without having to go to a Vet dermatologist 2 hrs away is that it is environmental allergies. She has always been an over groomer and is easily startled with loud noises and sudden movements, probably from being found on a farm with litter mates but no parents. I'm just happy for her that she is no longer uncomfortable, except when needing the meds.

My Blondie was constantly overgrooming. Not just loosing fur but losing skin too. I was taking her to the vet for cortisone shots every few months. She developed a severe flea allergy that forced her to become an indoor only cat. Trouble was she has three little brothers, also indoor only, that love nothing more than door dashing. And even though they are all on flea meds that doesn’t stop a flea from coming in and biting her before it dies! I was hesitant to give her an immunosuppressant but I finally decided to give it a try. She’s been on it almost 3 weeks now and it has changed her life!! Her precious personality is coming back out now! She is such a little spaz and it makes me SO HAPPY!! She’s playing and zooming and going back to cat beds she had spurned for months or years!

This truly works. Stick with it! My 2 cats have been having skin issues for a while and nothing was helping, my one starting losing a lot of hair and was bald in so many places. She absolutely hates the taste of it. I mix it with pumpkin puree or other flavor kitty things that she's ok with so use stuff they like. My other cat takes it a lot better so they are all different. But it works! In the beginning it may take a few weeks to see results, but just continue giving it to them. I am amazed how beautiful their fur is again. I forgot how pretty my o e cats fur was because its been that long since she had it fully grown out. Its annoying to have to give it every day, but worth it. I was told the other brand that has flavor is not as good as this one..so unfortunately I have to use it. So they dislike me for a minute, but I know they feel better.

I was recommended by my vet to try Atopica for my cat suffering from environmental allergies. My cat and I went through quite a journey for almost a year before we could figure out what was wrong. He was so itchy to the point he had missing hair and gaping wounds from the incessant scratching and biting to relieve the itch. After a couple of weeks on Atopica, the itching stopped. After a month or 2, his hair started growing back again. I did incorporate a pre/probiotic enzyme and cat supplement oil in his meals along with the medicine. I love that i can just put it in his food and he eats it up no problem. Definitely worth trying atopica if you've tried an elimination diet for your pet and theyre still itchy. Its more than likely environmental.

Tip for giving this bad tasting medicine to your fur baby. Insert the liquid into gelatin capsules! My girl has been on Atopica for several years and she always hated the taste. She recently started hiding from me which made it impossible to give the doses on schedule (and broke my heart) so I went back to the drawing board. I saw someone online recommend buying empty gelatin capsules to insert the liquid into and it worked! She's still not thrilled about having a capsule shoved down her throat but it's 1000% better than the nasty tasting liquid and she isn't hiding from me anymore. I buy the size 4 capsules in the picture and they hold enough liquid to equal 5.5 lbs on the syringe. For higher doses you could buy bigger capsules or give the smaller dose more frequently, which is what I do. (My girl is 10 lbs and she was getting a dose every other day so now she gets 1/2 dose every day.) You can see the capsule size in the pic. The size 4 is very small and easy to give her. Size 3 would be the next biggest size. I hope this helps someone! I was desperate for a new solution and this was a life saver.

The insert for the bottle sucks so I just put the syringe directly in the bottle. My cat has had issues her whole life. She’d itch herself to the point she had no fur, her ears had hives, and a sore in her mouth would flare up. Benadryl would help but then she developed rodent ulcers and the Benadryl stopped working. The vet prescribed this medication and it cleared her symptoms completely in 3 weeks.

Syringe is odd, but makes sense eventually

My cat has been on Atopica for a year, it’s done wonders for her itching and allowed her fur to grow back. The prescription was written in ml and I was given ml syringes originally by her vet. Dipping a syringe into the bottle and making a mess and wasting medication was annoying me, so i figured out how to use the lb syringe and bottle topper included in the box. I found the ml per lb conversion in the info packet. 0.032ml per 1lb. You can divide your cat’s ml dose by 0.032 to see what lb mark you should fill to on the syringe. If the math severely misrepresents the weight of your cat (ex: 10lb cat prescribed 0.13ml/4lbs) maybe give your vet a call and see if there’s a reason?? Seems like being given a prescription in ml and therefore not being able to use the mess free syringe/stopper that comes with the bottle is the biggest complaint about this medication (certainly was my complaint!) so I hope the conversion helps!!

Coconut has a severe issue with over-grooming, scratching, and causing physical harm to herself from discomfort. After every flea treatment, diet change, and even an environment change, she continued to have an issue with scratching to the point of scabs and bleeding. After multiple vet trips, skin graphs, blood tests and $$$ later, my vet recommended Atopica. It saved her life. She no longer tears her skin open and lives a life of misery. She is playful and happy and healthy! The downside is that this medication tastes awful and administering it can be a pain. She did eat it mixed with food for a bit, but eventually refused. I hate having to force nasty medicine down her throat but it works so well that I have to accept the trade offs. I read that some had luck mixing it when certain fishy Fancy Feast foods but it may take some experimenting to see what your cat tolerates. Another downside is that if she misses a dosage, she will revert back to scratching herself. Please ensure you do not miss a dose with your baby! Currently she takes 0.25ml each day along with a diet of prescription Royal Canin Ultamino food. It is expensive but I am willing to do whatever I can to ensure she lives a healthy and happy life.

This product works very well for my kitty; the only reason for the 4-star review is the container itself. I remove the insert tube when it appears to be empty: it's really NOT! I get 3 more FULL DOSES for my 8-pound kitty!!! The lines on the tube correspond with the cat's weight, so it's pretty easy to understand (8 lbs. = the line at the number 8). If your cat weighs more, the leftover amount won't be 3 full doses, of course. This medication is extremely expen$ive... there should be a more efficient delivery system, or at least a note on the label telling consumers how to remove the tube for the final doses (I use my fingernail to carefully pry it up). Oh, and the label on the jar itself comes almost all the way to the bottom, so if one isn't aware of extra in the jar, one would think it's empty... hmm... purposely?! There is really no reason to cheat the consumer, since the product does work, & I'm not blaming Chewy, but the manufacturer!!! So, caveat emptor... let the buyer beware.

My cat was licking her tummy raw in multiple places. Went to the vet, got steroids and some antibiotics. Nothing helped and then we came across this medication and it completely changed her life. After a week she completely stopped excessively grooming and she's back to normal grooming. She's back to playing. She's back to eating!
