Repeat this for 3 to 4 changes, lessening the amount of your old litter each time. 3) Fill the litter box with 3 - 4 inches of ARM & HAMMER HardBall Clumping Litter. Would recommend, but probably a little tracking

I tested 6 different non-clay, clumping cat litters and here’s how this one stacks up: Texture: the pieces were like a large sand, very smooth and gentle on paws Smell: faint flower smell, nothing noticeable unless you were close-up Clump: my 1/ 4 cup of water formed a fascinating jello-like clump that held together beautifully with very little water making it to the bottom of the bowl, even though the litter was only about 2" deep Tracking: a little tracking in my thumb test Overall impression: Liked this litter a lot. Not sure what's turning the clump into a jello-like texture, but it was nice to be able to lift the clump out easily with a spoon. My methodology was as follows. To start, I poured a cup of litter into a bowl. I added a quarter coin to compare size of grain in the photo. For texture, just felt it with my hands and compared it to a typical clay clumping litter. I was looking to avoid sharp edges and large chunks, as one of my cats seems to be very texture sensitive. Did my best to describe the textures in the ratings. Smell: Took a good whiff before adding water and after. I did NOT test with urine, so can’t speak to how well it handles urine odors. Clump: I poured 1/4 cup of water into the center of the bowl, then waited about 10 minutes before using a spoon to lift up the clump. I also emptied out the bowl to see how much water had sunk to the bottom of the bowl and clumped there. It’s important to note that the litter in the bowl was only about 2” deep, whereas ideally in your litter box it’s more like 4 inches deep. Track: I put my dry thumb down in the litter, then lifted it out and tapped it on a piece of paper. This isn’t a cat’s foot, obviously, but it does give some indication of the litter’s general track-ability. The litters I tested (someone in the marketing departments needs to work on the length of these names). I didn’t think I’d ever have strong feelings about cat litter, and yet here we are. This stuff is the rockstar of litter. We went through what felt like a full-blown archaeological dig of brands over the years, and somehow this one was the hidden treasure at the end. I’m honestly a little offended it took us this long to find it. The clumping? Elite. No more of those tragic, crumbly clumps that fall apart mid-scoop like they’ve given up on life. You know the ones, where you end up chasing rogue pieces around the box and questioning your choices. Not with this. Once it dries, it commits. Fully. Respect. Odor control is also doing the most in the best way. It handles smells like it has a personal vendetta against them. And unlike clay litter, it doesn’t turn into a concrete slab that your cat needs a pickaxe to dig through. My cats can actually do their thing and cover it like nature intended, instead of just standing there, confused and mildly betrayed. 10/10. Would recommend to every cat owner who’s tired of litter box drama.
The Smell of the litter itself
It's appealing to my nose. I like it very much. Even when the litter is soiled it does the job and still smells pleasant. the texture reminds me of brown sugar
It's appealing to my nose. I like it very much. Even when the litter is soiled it does the job and still smells pleasant. the texture reminds me of brown sugar. I wish it wasn't so expensive and wish it came in a larger bag. I'm always on the hunt for a litter that is suitable for my cats. I have lots of cats as noted before in another review. It's great for multiple cats.
Good for urine clumps, needs odor control improvement

The urine balls are pretty solid. Hasn't stuck to sides or bottoms yet, but I've only been using it for 3 days. When I poured bag out, there was no dust! That's great! Texture is like medium coarse Kosher salt, sandy. Wish it came in gray to blend to my floor more, it's a tan color. I still sweep, but at least the previous litter wasn't an eye sore (arm&hammer slide). It is light. Heavier than Tidycat lightweight and way lighter than Slide for comparison. So far it does not control odor well. Would be good for cats with aversion to artificial smells because the fragrance is very light, but mine don't mind fragrances and it's too light to cover odors for me. Because of the texture and lightness, I will continue to use but it will have to be in combination with the colored litter box fragrance sprinkles or arm&hammer deodorizer powder which I keep on hand anyway. If used in this way, I think it'll be a new go-to litter. Kinda pricey though.
Impressive

I have 2 kittens over six months at home and I’ve been trying different litter to find the best fit for them. Regular clay litter sticks to their small paws so that was a no. I was using worlds best cat litter and I liked that it was natural and would stick to their coats or paws but it doesn’t clump as great as this one does. This litter is amazing doesn’t stick to box and very little tracking. Also it doesn’t stick to their bum area plus its natural as well.
Highly recommend not to use this when dogs are in the same house

We recently got 2 kittens while already having 2 German Shepherds. In the past 3 months we used a variety kitty litter brands and yes, our German Shepherds are guilty of eating kitty poop. But until we bought Hardball kitty litter, they never have eaten the kitty litter itself, only the "treats" when they got the chance. One recent evening, we came home to find that both dogs ate all the Hardball litter out of 2 litter boxes. Both dogs each completely emptied the litter boxes, and I even witnessed them licking the remainder of the litter sand of the floor when I was about to vacuum what was left. Shortly after, one of the dogs started scratching her mouth and when I opened her mouth up, a palm size clump of kitty litter was stuck to her palate. I checked immediately the other dog's palate and the same, a big clump still stuck. It was like sticky dough or even more like clay. I absolutely believe that Hardball kitty litter should not be sold to cat owners who have dogs in the same house, especially with dogs that have the tendency to consume cat poop. There is something in this kitty litter that is very attractive to dogs to eat. Very scary!
Doesn't clump well, sticking to the bottom

I have an automatic litter box and I've been trying different cat litters to see what works best. The majority of the reviews for this litter were favorable so decided to take a chance. Unfortunately my experience lines up with the one star reviews. I have my automatic litter box set to clean after 20 minutes to give the litter plenty of time to clump. When it cleaned the first time using this litter, nothing fell into the waste box. I ended up pressing the clean button once more and noticed a bunch of cat litter stuck to the bottom of the rubber mat. I had to scrape it off with a litter shovel. I pressed the clean button one more time and a flat rubbery blob of cat litter went into the waste box. If I have to do this every time it cleans, this defeats the purpose of an automatic litter box. Two thumbs down on this product.
It LAST!!
We’ve trial and errored so many cat litters. We scoop our box daily and this litter clumps perfectly, not extra litter coming out with it and it doesn’t track through
We’ve trial and errored so many cat litters. We scoop our box daily and this litter clumps perfectly, not extra litter coming out with it and it doesn’t track through the house! We have 2 cats and this bag is our second one and they seem to last our 2/3 months. Which is soo nice for the price! Makes it completely worth it! Also it smells amazing and if you don’t see our cats you wouldn’t know we had any! My fur babies for reference
Pricey but effective

I tried the new Arm&Hammer Platinum Hardball Lightweight cat litter because lifting my regular 42lbs Fresh Step multi-pack product is difficult. I have also noticed that the Fresh Step Clumping Litter is not as solid when wet. Perhaps the formula has been changed. I was considering switching brands altogether. I sprinkled a bit of the Arm &Hammer litter on top of the Fresh Step to test my cat's sensitivity to a new brand. The combination of the Arm&Hammer and Fresh Step litters proved to be a great improvement. Odors and soft wet spots have been greatly reduced by adding a layer of the Arm&Hammer litter to the Fresh Step. My cat appears to be comfortable with the mixture. The air is fresher and clean-up is neater. The price is the only reason I will not use the Arm&Hammer exclusively. Try it for your cats. This product is a great addition to the kitty care arsenal.
Purrfect Litter!!

I can't say enough great things about the Arm & Hammer Hardball Litter, and the cats agree as they took to it immediately. This is the perfect cat litter, and I've tried every brand out there. I have 3 cats and 2 giant litter boxes and with Hardball, I've been able to go 5 days without scooping and no issues with smell or unwanted cat potty behaviors. (I typically scoop every other day.) This is because the feces dries up rather quickly and the urine clumps into a sort of rubbery bind immediately. I don't have to worry about kitty feet walking through unsanitary fresh deposits. The litter is very easy and quick to scoop without breaking apart. The urine deposits create an interesting pattern which allows me to know which cat tinkled and I can check for any discoloration or health concerns. The litter has a faint floral smell which is nice at first, but can get funky after a few weeks, which indicates I need to swap out the litter for a fresh bag. One bag split between 2 litter boxes lasts 1 month with 3 cats, making Hardball an excellent value. There is zero dust (seriously!) and minimal tracking. The litter I find outside of the box is clean. This tracks slightly more than a larger grain of litter but it's much easier to vacuum. (Do NOT flush this litter down a toilet.) ("Hardball" gets flagged on my work computer, so maybe shop from a personal device.)
