What makes this particular product "double duty" versus the regular Arm & Hammer litter deodorizer powder?

They both contain moisture activated SBC crystals and odor neutralizers. The ARM & HAMMER Double Duty Cat Litter Deodorizer Powder also contains additional odor neutralizers specifically developed for fecal malodors.

Do I have to put a thick film of the powder ontop or sprinkle it to just coat? Also, am I supposed to mix this in or leave it ontop?

In a clean, empty litter box, pour deodorizer to cover the bottom of the litter box. Add any type of litter as usual. Sprinkle on top of litter and mix in. Between litter changes, sprinkle on top after scooping to keep litter fresh.

6 Cats and NO SMELL!

This product is a staple in our house at this point. We have 6 cats and ZERO litter box odor. Our boxes are used with Pretty Litter, daily cleaning, and monthly litter-changes. Every time I restart the box with a full litter change, we first clean it with Natures Miracle foaming spray, sprinkle Arm & Hammer Litter Deodorizer all across the bottom, add new litter, more deodorizer, stir it in, a little more deodorizer, stir it in some more. I put my deodorizer powder in a cute glass Shaker (dollar store score!) which blends in to my shelves and holds about a third of the box. This also helps provide an even layer all over and keeps me from accidentally using too much. I scoop the poo daily and stir the pee around so its not concentrated in one spot. I add more deodorizer weekly, stirring it in each time. The scent is a little strong at first but "airs out" in just a few minutes. With this "system" we have never had pee-stained feet or any other smells. The fragrance does not bother the cats at all. It is not dusty, my cats all have silky shiny coats. I really couldnt be happier with this "routine".

Only problem is that it CANNOT be used with Prettylitter. If added to Prettylitter Arm and Hammer changes the product's color property thus suggesting possible

Only problem is that it CANNOT be used with Prettylitter. If added to Prettylitter Arm and Hammer changes the product's color property thus suggesting possible urinary/kidney problems. This is NOT currently noted on Prettylitter's outside packaging. I had to call the Prettylitter helpline to learn this and suggested that this be consider to avoid customer concern over color changes which WILL occur if Arm & Hammer is used in Prettylitter.

Product destroyed/lousy packing

I like Chewy.com! Nice selection, acceptable pricing, good service on the phone...but the packing from the distribution center in my area is terrible. Maybe your area is better, but product delivered to me is very often damaged or even destroyed, and it's not FedEx fault. In this last case, they packed the arm & hammer litter baking soda in with the 40lb. box of litter itself, with no cushioning between them. The baking soda box was, of course, beat to death. I just threw it away. One of us, either chewy or myself, is going to have to change. I can't keep paying for beat-up product. Sorry.

I didn't realize until I got her home that she was wild and not very friendly. later I was told that the shelter was going to destroy her the next day. That was in 2011. It took at least 5 years for her to calm down. We are friends now and have we come to an agreement. " I get to pet her whenever she wants me to" I live alone and just having another heartbeat in the house has been a joy.

Fragrance. That’s a large problem. About 1.5 years ago, my Noelle had to go thru 3 full rounds of antibiotics b/c of fragrance in pet litter. It presented as severe chin acne.. photo in better year! II will never use this in their litter boxes. Total waste of money. And I would NEVER have bought this had I known it had fragrance. Sprinkle plain, unscented to their litter to minimize chance of perfume allergy.

Long story short, we adopted two stray kittens that had been living under our deck. Since they are loaded with everything, we have to keep them confined to our guest bedroom for a couple weeks. Our two rescue's have a litter box in the basement. We figured one upstairs would be a bit smelly, which is the reason I bought this stuff. Anyhow, did as instructed, coated bottom of litter box then sprinkled more on top of the litter and mixed it in. So far, even in a rather small guest room, there is NO smell from the litter box. Two thumbs up, very impressed! I also add a little to freshen it up every couple days.

I sprinkle a bit of this on the litter every time I finish scooping it. Really helps keep things smelling fresh (or neutral). Great for litter types that need a little extra assistance with the odor fighting aspect, or to boost the odor neutralizing aspects for multi-cat boxes. The only thing I have yet to test is whether this aggravates the allergies. My cats sneeze a lot, but it's not always after they use the litter box. Just be mindful that if your cats are sensitive to respiratory issues, it's possible that this could be a potential aggravator.
